Mums Benefit From Winter Car Maintenance Workshop by award winning motor vehicle specialist

By Newsroom

Newsdesk@asiansunday.co.uk

As the colder days of winter kick in the challenges to keep our motor vehicles safe and problem free become greater. However, not for a group of lucky mums who have children attending St Barnabas C of E primary School, as they recently benefited from a free car maintenance workshop by award winning motor vehicle specialist Naveed Khan. Naveed Khan is the founder of Enkahnz, a Bradford based accident repair centre and vehicle customisation boutique. Along with starring in the BBC TV documentary series ‘Bradford City of Dreams’ in 2013, Naveed has also worked on cars for many celebrities such as Amir Khan. The women who attended Naveed’s winter

car maintenance workshop learnt about the different warning lights on the dashboard, what it meant and how to maintain it should any warning lights come on. Women also got under the bonnet where Naveed taught them where the battery is, how to jump start a vehicle, how to check and maintain engine oil and fluid levels. He explained the importance of screen wash additives in winter and making sure the correct antifreeze is in your radiator. The workshop proved beneficial for all of the women who attended, as most said they were not aware of many of the details the vehicle specialist shared and often due to garages being mainly male focused they didn’t feel comfortable going into a garage and asking about car maintenance. Naveed said: “We are in an era of equality for all, no one has time for anyone anymore

Heaton St Barnabas C of E Primary School and Enkahnz. The car maintenance workshop was highly requested by some of our parents. As a school, we encourage reducing carbon footprint and this workshop has helped achieve that.”

“I am really glad that I was able to pass on my experiences and help women become more independent on the roads, by teaching them basic vehicle maintenance.

Other parents also left their feedback in the letter.

“I enjoyed the session, as the women asked good questions, there was good interaction back and forth and I hope to see them again for the second workshop.” One of the highlights was when Naveed allowed the mums to check and refill tyre pressure on his prized Ferrari and on other Enkahnz’s personal vehicles. The parents were very happy at this workshop as they had learnt a lot. Sofia Mushtaq, who is a Parent Governor at the school and attended the workshop, wrote back to thank Naveed on behalf of the school and parents. In the letter she wrote: “The workshop you carried out was of huge value to the attendees. For almost all, this was the first time they experienced car maintenance as most rely on the male members of their families. “This has been a fantastic collaboration for

Rehana Ali, who attended the workshop, said: ‘I really enjoyed myself and I felt safe and learned at the same time. The basics were easy to grasp. Naveed made us feel very comfortable and able to ask questions.’ “This was a very informative and helpful session. Many thanks to Mr Khan for hosting us today and I look forward to part two of the training where we will learn to change a tyre.’ Nazia Ali said in the letter. Aqsa Butt who also attended said: ‘I got to know simple basic things that I didn’t know, and they are important too. I’ve always relied upon the male members of my family but now I’m confident enough to at least carry out the important basic checks. I learnt all this in one session taught by Naveed and at no cost to me. I can’t thank him enough.’ Following the success, there are plans for a second workshop for intermediate level training. Tributes Have Poured in for Tragic Accident Victim Ishah Riaz

A 17-year-old Bradford girl has lost her life following a fatal collision on Bradford Road, in Bingley on 12 December. She has been named as Ishah Iman Riaz and is the daughter of Raja Muhammad Riaz of Haslingdon Drive. The accident happened near Ishah’s school Beckfoot, where she was a year 12 student.

This is the second time tragedy has hit the school, as they earlier lost year 9 student Raees Farid, who also died in a road traffic collision while on holiday with his father in Turkey. Police are appealing for witnesses following Thursday’s fatal road traffic collision.

The school’s statement said: “We subsequently learned that Ishah passed away in hospital.

It involved a green Skoda Octavia travelling along the B6265 Bradford Road towards Bingley.

“Ishah was a wonderful young lady who joined our school community in September to study for her A-levels.

The driver, a 65-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

“She made such an impression on all who knew her and we are heartbroken by this news.

He was later released under investigation for enquiries to continue.

“Our deepest sympathies and thoughts are with her family and friends at this terribly sad time. “Our school community will absorb this news during the day and we will support each other as we think about Ishah and her family.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision or what happened prior to it is asked to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101 or by using the contact options on the West Yorkshire Police website. The log reference is 1106 of 12 December.

Boris Johnson Jingles Back to No.10 BRADFORD | DECEMBER 2019

The General Election fate has now been declared and Boris Johnson returns with a massive majority of 80 seats and will form a new Conservative government. Labour finished on 203, the SNP 48, Liberal Democrats 11 and the DUP eight.

Early prediction polls had predicted that the Conservative would win with a landslide majority of 86, with 368 seats. Labour were predicted to win less than 200 seats for the first time since 1935. Jeremy Corbyn said: “This is obviously a very disappointing night for the Labour Party with the result that we have got. But I want to say this, in the election campaign we put forward a manifesto of hope a manifesto of unity and a manifesto that would help to right the wrongs and the injustices and inequalities that exist in this country. “For those who need housing, for those who need an effective healthcare service that will deliver for them and those children that need a school that is properly funded, and they are not being taught in oversized classes. “And a manifesto that gave hope in dealing with the environmental crisis that the world it faces by investing for the future through a Green Industrial Revolution. All of those policies were extremely popular during the election campaign and remain policies that have huge popular support all across this country. “However, Brexit has polarized and divided debate with this country, it has overridden so

much of our normal political debate. And I recognised that has contributed to the result that the Labour Party has received this evening all across the country.

He said. The PM promised to put an end to all the arguing ‘nonsense’ that politicians have been having over Brexit and said he will get Brexit done on time by 31st January. “No If’s no buts no maybes. Leaving European Union as one United Kingdom.” He said

“I want to also make it clear that I will not lead the party in any future general election campaign. “But I’m proud that we took our message of hope, unity and justice to every part of this country.”

There was some consolation for Labour in London where they took Putney from the Tories, but narrowly failed to oust Iain Duncan Smith in Chingford and Woodford Green. Mr Corbyn attacked the media and blamed Brexit for ‘polarising the electorate’ as he was returned in his Islington North constituency.

Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson lost her seat by fewer than 150 votes on a disappointing night for the party. Mr Johnson however, was on course for the Conservatives best result since 1987, during Margaret Thatcher times.

‘I will not lead the party in any future general election campaign, and I will discuss with my party to ensure there is a period of reflection,’ he said.

As the PM was announced re-elected at his Uxbridge constituency, he thanked the people for voting in what he described as a ‘historic’ election.

‘I will lead the party during that period to ensure that discussion takes place.’ The results left the PM set for a five-year stint in Downing Street and primed to drive his ‘ovenready’ Brexit deal through parliament before Christmas.

‘It will change this country for the better and unleash the entire potential of this country. That work will begin tomorrow — sorry, I should say today.’ He said. In his victory speech the PM said he will ‘work night and day flat out’ to prove his backers right. He went on to say that in this election your voice has been heard and about time too.

The pound jumped three cents against the dollar and also shot to a high against the euro as relieved traders bet on an end to Brexit uncertainty.

“Because we politicians have squandered for the last three years, in squabbles about Brexit”

Donald Trump tweeted: ‘Looking like a big win for Boris in the UK!’

The Brexit Party was not predicted to win any seats, but party leader Nigel Farage seemed satisfied with the result. ‘This victory for Boris was hugely helped by us and is far better than the Marxist Corbyn and a second referendum,’ he tweeted. The Green Party’s Caroline Lucas tweeted: ‘If this exit poll is right, it’s a devastating blow for our climate, for future generations and for our democracy.’ In Bradford, Labour held on to their seats in Bradford, East, Bradford West and Bradford South. Imran Hussain held his seat in Bradford East with 27825 holding a 63% majority. Bradford West saw Labour’s Naz Shah re-elected with a massive 76% majority garnering a whopping 33736 votes. Bradford South was a little tight, but Judith Cummins, managed to hang in there and retain her Labour seat for Bradford South with 46% of the votes, garnering 18390 votes. Shipley was held by the Conservative where the incumbent Philip Davies kept his seat with a 51% majority garnering 27437 votes. Labour’s John Grogan lost his seat in Keighley to Robbie Moore who took 48% of the votes for the Conservatives with 25298 votes. Here are the full results

UK’s Pakistani Organisations ‘must work together to tackle social and economic barriers facing communities’

(L to R) Adeeba Malik, deputy CEO of QED, hosting one of the Q&A sessions with key speakers Sir Stephen Bubb, Javed Khan and Faraz Khan

UK-based Pakistani charities and voluntary organisations must work together to tackle the challenges facing some of our most disadvantaged communities. That was the core message to representatives of more than 130 organisations who attended the inaugural annual conference of the Network of Pakistani Organisations (NPO-UK) at the Aga Khan University in London. Delegates were told they needed to focus on the wider challenges facing Britain’s 1.5 million Pakistanis who are regularly singled out by government reports and think tanks as progressing more slowly in society than other ethnic minorities. Dr Mohammed Ali OBE, Chief Executive and founder of the Bradford-based QED Foundation, which organised the conference, said: “British Pakistanis running, or involved in, voluntary sector organisations of all sizes are an untapped resource that can make a significant contribution in addressing these issues locally. “There are thought to be at least 4,000 British Pakistanis running voluntary organisations. They are very influential players in local community development. “These organisations face the same challenges as the voluntary sector as a whole, such as increasing demand for their services and diminishing resources, as well as the additional challenges of being based in

deprived areas and not having the resources or knowledge to invest in capacity-building of their staff, trustees and organisations. “We need to meet the challenge head on and to harness the energy and knowledge of the British Pakistani voluntary sector to make a difference, developing the leadership skills of the individuals running these organisations and building the capacity of voluntary organisations.” His comments were echoed by the key speakers, including Sir Stephen Bubb, the Director of Charity Futures and the Acting Director of the Oxford Institute of Charity, who said: “If charities are to grow, they need to work together, share experiences and challenges. This conference must not be the last but the beginning of many more such events that pull together the network of Pakistani organisations in this country.” Javed Khan, Chief Executive of Barnado’s, advised against leaders playing politics. Instead the focus should be on serving the community and responding to their needs. We were all familiar with the phrase “community leaders” but the question was whether such leaders have any followers? In his view, too many Pakistani organisations were stuck in a rut, of the “community leadership” model, “which, we know, is tried, tested and failed.” Mr Khan said organisations had to do much more to recruit a diverse workforce. They should commit in every which they can;

strategically, tactically and through resource allocation to drive the equality agenda.

employment of women drivers was also radical in many countries.

“Many of us remember the ‘three S’ approach to equalities – saris, steel band and samosas,” he said. “It didn’t work in the 1980s, when it was first implemented, it’s not going to work now. Yet for too many organisations that is the limit of their imagination when they think about equality.”

The conference also heard from several speakers, with country-specific examples of Pakistani contribution, including Salim Kidwai, from Wales, Raza Sadiq, from Scotland, and Qaisra Shahraz, from Manchester, where she is Director of the Muslim Arts and Cultural Festival.

And he urged delegates to bear in mind the changing face of the communities they serve, especially when it came to young people, the adults of the future.

The conference ended with a contribution from Dr Karamat Iqbal, an academic and community activist.

“The demographics are changing and organisations have to change alongside,” he said. “The point is: if we don’t understand about our people how are we going to organise our services directed towards them in the way they are needed? Our data-capture has to be much more nuanced.” Faraz Khan, a UK-based Pakistani social entrepreneur, spoke of change as something that “operated at three levels: individual, institutional and systemic.” He stressed the importance of transformation of communities. He told the delegates about Careem, the “Uber” of Pakistan and many other Middle Eastern countries. The company had now been bought by Uber. The company had transformed travel in Pakistan and many other Muslim countries. It was a completely safe way to travel, especially for women. Its

He provided the national demographics of the community and highlighted the need of the British Pakistani community under a number of headings such as education, employment and health. He stressed the importance of Pakistani women’s participation in organisations. Dr Ali said after the event: “This inaugural conference has been hugely successful in bringing together British Pakistani voluntary organisations to share experiences, learn from prominent people in the Third Sector and point the way ahead. “We had a fantastic attendance and I hope this will become an annual event that can really start to make a difference in helping so many committed and hard-working volunteers and organisations to work hand-in- hand to tackle the huge social and economic barriers these communities face.”

Fascinating Future for Religious Places of Worship

I recently had the privilege of visiting Europe’s very first Eco friendly mosque in Cambridge and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who I wasn’t expecting to meet. I took my father with me, as he has been extremely excited about wanting to visit this stunning place of worship ever since photos and videos of the mosque emerged online. My father came to the UK in the mid 70’s and he recalls how difficult it was to find somewhere to pray in congregation. The economic reality of immigration meant the first mosques in the UK were housed in modest living rooms and by the time my father came these had expanded to full homes converted into mosques, which were managed by small committees. Despite warm and friendly atmospheres, as the population of Muslims continued to grow in the UK the spaces for worship continued to shrink. Especially during special prayers such as Friday prayers or Eid prayers, worshippers

would often find themselves praying within the corridors of the homes and on some occasion even outside into the gardens. Today the story is different, places like Bradford alone have more than 100 mosques and many of them, purpose built, magnificent in structure size and interior. In the past for people like my father mosques were simply a space for men to go and complete their religious obligation to pray in congregation, today mosques act as much more than that and are now very welcoming for women and children. It’s refreshing therefore to see mosques like Cambridge Central mosque, who have a committed focus on environment and climate, being the first eco-friendly mosque. What instantly impresses you as you arrive are the large columns, or ‘trees’, which reach up to support the roof in an interlaced octagonal lattice vault structure evocative of English gothic fan vaulting. The timber is sustainably

sourced spruce which has been curved and laminated. The building is naturally lit by large skylights in the roof, supplemented by low energy LED bulbs, while photovoltaic cells on the roof help generate renewable energy from sunlight. As well as being very wellinsulated and naturally ventilated, the mosque is heated and cooled by locally generated energy, by way of highly efficient heat pumps in the basement that produce far more energy than they consume.

During my father’s early year’s, he describes how mosques were built or established exclusively for the male community, so that didn’t just restrict non-Muslims, but also Muslims who didn’t belong to that community or sect. Today thankfully many mosques have open door policies, where anyone can drop in and visit a mosque. The spaces have also started being more welcoming for women and children, and are new spaces are being built specifically with women in mind.

This type of heat pump extracts energy from the relatively stable temperature of the air or ground water, heating the building as needed and cooling it at times of high occupancy or excess heat gains.

So, it was refreshing to see that women were included in the design consultations for Cambridge mosque and the prayer space and the ablution space is reflective of that.

Grey water and rainwater are harvested to flush WCs and irrigate the grounds. The mosque is not just a place for Muslims to go and pray but is a welcoming space for non-Muslims too. The beautiful gardens and café make it a welcoming space for all members of the community.

My visit to Cambridge Central mosque left me feeling optimistic as there is so much being done to diversify and evolve our places of worship and I have a strong feeling that the evolution of mosques is far from over, with new ideas and projects being explored and developed. There promises to be a fascinating future ahead

Cabello, a multi-platinum selling and Grammynominated singer/songwriter, will be integrally involved in the music. “Cinderella” marks her

acting debut. The film is a musical comedy that reimagines the traditional “Cinderella” story, in which the heroine is an ambitious young woman whose dreams are bigger than the world will allow. The movie is being produced by James Corden and Leo Pearlman through their Fulwell73 banner. Based on the fairy tale “Cendrillon” by Charles Perrault, the story of a poor young orphan

woman and her fairy godmother was the basis for Disney’s 1950 animated drama “Cinderella”. That film spawned two liveaction remakes 1997’s iteration starring Brandy and Whitney Houston and Kenneth Branagh’s 2015 version with Lily James. Brosnan played James Bond four times between 1995 and 2002 in “GoldenEye”, “Tomorrow Never Dies”, “The World Is Not Enough” and “Die Another Day”. He is starring in “Eurovision” with Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams, and “False Positive”.

‘Young’ Reese was asked to dress sexy to meet studio head Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon says she cannot believe the things she did to get roles when she was younger, insisting young stars today would rebuke any manager who told them to “dress sexy” for an audition. The actress told hollywoodreporter.com that she once had to meet an unnamed studio head, who believed Witherspoon was like Tracy Flick, her super-serious, overachiever character in the 1999 film “Election” - and she was told to dress “appropriately”, reports aces. “My manager called and said, ‘You’ve got to go meet with the studio head

Prithviraj: Sanjay Dutt To Turn Blind For Akshay Kumar’s Historical Drama? Akshay Kumar, amongst all the multiple movies, has one very interesting project in Yash Raj Film’s Prithviraj co-starring Manushi Chhillar and Sanjay Dutt. Post delivering Good Newwz to conclude this year, Akshay has movies like Sooryavanshi, Laxmmi Bomb, Prithviraj & Bachchan Pandey next year. Sanjay Dutt, a couple of months ago, confirmed his presence in this Yash Raj backed historical drama. In an interview, he casually said that he will be a part of Prithviraj. Now, the news of his character details is doing rounds on social media. According to Box Office Worldwide, Sanjay Dutt will be playing the role of Akshay Kumar’s uncle in the film. He will be a blind man in the film and will have a pivotal contribution to build up the story. It’s also been said Sanju Baba’s character will strengthen

the emotional connect of the film. Manushi noted that she gave her first shot for the film on the same day she was crowned Miss World two years ago. “It is really a beautiful coincidence that I gave my first shot for ‘Prithviraj‘ on the same day that I had won Miss World two years back. November 18 is definitely one of the most special days of my life and I’m thrilled that two of my life’s biggest milestones fall on the same day. Giving the first shot for my debut film was simply surreal,” she said. Directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, Prithviraj is based on the life and heroism of the fearless king Prithviraj Chauhan. It stars superstar Akshay in the title role while Manushi will play the role of the Sanyogita, the love of his life. Prithviraj is being made by Yash Raj Films. It will release on Diwali 2020.

‘Jayeshbhai is an unlikely hero’: Ranveer Singh & YRF launch the first look of the hugely anticipated film, Jayeshbhai Jordaar Ranveer Singh and Yash Raj Films are coming together on what Ranveer has called ‘a miracle script’ penned by debutant writer-director Divyang Thakkar. The first-timer is directing Ranveer in a humorous entertainer set in Gujarat and the actor will be seen playing the role of a Gujarati man for the first time. Naturally, the anticipation to see the first look of Ranveer from the film was immense.

backed stories like Padmaavat, with his portrayal of an anti-hero in Alauddin Khillji and extended his range in Gully Boy, a content film that went on to become a blockbuster. Today, he has amassed nationwide love as an actor across all demographics. So, naturally, when Ranveer decides to back a rank newcomer, one can assume that Divyang is a very special talent to watch out for.

“As Charlie Chaplin once said, ‘To truly laugh, you must be able to take your pain, and play with it!’. Jayeshbhai is an unlikely hero - an ordinary man, who ends up doing something extraordinary when he’s hurled into a threatening situation. Jayeshbhai is sensitive and compassionate. He believes in equal rights between men and women in a society that is deeply rooted in patriarchal ideals, practices and doctrines,” Ranveer reveals about his character.

The versatile actor showered heaps of praise on his director. “Divyang has poured his soul into this brilliant piece of writing that will nudge you to introspect whilst making you smile and laugh the entire time,” he says.

He adds, “Jayeshbhai presented an exciting challenge - to deconstruct myself in order to transform into a kind of character I’ve never inhabited before.” Ranveer has stamped his superstardom with his incredible body of work. He’s been consistently collaborating with all the top filmmakers of the country and has also been displaying exceptional script-sense in selecting projects. He has instinctively

The film is being produced by YRF’s homegrown producer Maneesh Sharma, who also discovered Divyang. Maneesh says, “Ranveer is fearless when it comes to inhabiting a role and has continued his risktaking behaviour, eschewing his looks for his character’s needs. For Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Divyang had the vision of a protagonist that went against the cloth - a hero that isn’t necessarily hyper-masculine or Alpha. This faith on the director’s vision, and the self-confidence of going against your “image” is what makes Ranveer a filmmaker’s delight and one of India’s biggest stars - not just commercially but critically as well.”

Akshay Kumar Gives Us Good Newwz By FATIMA PATEL

editor@asianstylemagazine.com Akshay has most certainly made most of the headlines in B-Town in 2019. He has had the maximum number of films and hits at the box office this year than any of his male counterparts. His year started with Kesari which has grossed more than 200 crore rupees worldwide. This was quickly followed up with yet another stellar performance, in Mission Mangal smashing box office records, giving Akshay his highest box office opening ever. He pulled off his hat trick of smash hits when Housefull 4 released, making the film the sixth highest grossing Bollywood movie of 2019. The Gold actor is considered as the world’s fourth highest-paid actor and has been a part of the Indian film industry for over three decades. While his career may not have got the success during his early years, he certainly has been getting more good news at the box office over the last few years and now Akshay is gearing up to give us some more, Good Newzz.

1) The trailer of Good Newwz has been received so well, did you anticipate such a response? This entire year has blown all my expectations and humble prayers out of the water, so the rapport to our ‘Good Newwz’ trailer is now literally the cherry on the cake. I don’t think I’ve ever had a year of

such a successful positive vibe in all my years, it just feels like such a blessing right now, I’m so grateful I can’t explain, hard work really does pay off…

2) The trailer is hilarious yet looks like a “meaningful comedy film”, not the regular kind of comedies that we see in Bollywood

6) Every year for lot of couple's IVF treatment is a new ray of hope that their dreams of becoming parents can come true. But it is an expensive procedure; do you think there is a way to make is a bit more accessible to couples who now cannot afford this? Unfortunately this is where my power ends, I can’t control the expense of science, I can give people hope, & donations, & spread awareness, but I sadly can’t do everything. But there are Grants, Scholarships & loans that can help those in need, couples must research

as much as possible from reputable clinics & organisations before going through with anything. As much as I wish the creation of life was free, this procedure takes a lot of expertise in specifically controlled environments. The price of life is unfortunately out of my hands…

7) You and Kareena are coming back on screen in a film after quite some time, how was it reuniting with her? Making movies with Bebo (Kareena) is like a taking a wild picnic, she is fabulous at everything she does, free to be herself, even when she goofs up, she’s enigmatic. With one click from the clap she switches from mummy,

It definitely reminds me of why I love humour and movies so much, ‘Good Newwz’ is such a well-rounded balance of comedy, romance and drama, a mix that I think everyone loves to enjoy especially around Christmas and New Year’s, a time where life is real but fun is a must. What I like about this film is that deep down

3) The film tackles in vitro fertilisation (IVF) in a way which has not been explored before, whose idea was it to base the film on it? It of course is the director’s vision, Mr Raj Metha, who is debuting this brilliant story in ‘Good Newwz’. He came to me with this script when I was in the Himalayas shooting action for ‘Kesari’, and I just fell in love with it, fighting a battle all day then coming back to listen to this script was the light that I needed at the time, and if that is how I felt, then I’m I’m sure it will give others just as much happiness as it gave me.

4) Also, is this film an effort to make people more aware of the procedure of IVF? Absolutely, I think IVF, surrogacy, adoption, are all incredible miracles of giving and creating life for others. There’s There’s so much that can be done nowadays that this film I pray gives hope to those that not only need it but can lean on when the time is right. Women have fought long and hard for their rightful standing in a work place, there isn’t isn’t such a biological rush to conceive right after marriage now, of course a healthy age is always encouraged, but women can now enjoy their careers knowing that when they think the time is right, science can now help them become mothers if fertility, stress, or time becomes a factor.

it doesn’t matter what happens, or how many lemons or whose lemons they are, love is what really matters. So just make lemonade and stop fighting, what will be will be… A Resolution I think everyone should try next year, less opinions of people and more love, just give love towards anyone and everyone, and just see the positivity unfold…

friend and co-star into a professional queen of cinema, I know fans have been waiting for us to reunite, and this film couldn’t be more perfect for both of us right now!

8) Also, how was your experience of working with Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani for the first time? What can I say, Diljit is like my happy place, when he comes on set it’s like the brother I never had come to see me, he is a wonderful human being, but more than that he makes me laugh and all those around us, shy, but role the camera and his inhibitions come alive. As for miss up and coming superstar Kiara, who

started her career with my production film ‘Fugly’ has worked hard all the way to the top now, I’m so proud of her growth, her discipline on the sets and the character she portrays in this film is just adorable. This cast couldn’t have been a better dream team.

5) How did you research on the subject and was there anything you found out which you didn't know about it before? Many of my movies I like to follow the lead of my gut and my heart, but with subjects like Mission Mangal, PadMan and now Good Newwz, one must always learn the background if not for the pressure of the role, but out of respect for the subject itself. There are over 8 million successful IVF Babies born and counting, our film may be based on a ‘Goof Up’, Up’, but like I and many others believe, awareness starts with humour, it’s it’s why satire is admired by everyone, and why comedians generate the most awareness of almost all

subjects, I’ve always believed if you want to find out what’s going on in the world either go to a stand-up comedy night or YouTube any comedian, that’s where I collect most of my people skills and knowledge these days. With no disrespect, I’ve learnt more from making movies, listening to scripts and subjects, studying comedians than I ever have in a classroom. No, I’m I’m not suggesting not to study, I’m I’m just saying that comedy movies can be just as compelling. This film is based on a goof up, but All,’ and it the moral behind it is ‘Love conquers All,’ will for eternity because that is nature at its best… best…

9) You have always associated yourself with meaningful cinema which has a direct impact on the society, is it challenging for you to identify or find such scripts? I wouldn’t say wouldn’t I’ve always I’ve associated myself with meaningful cinema, it wasn’t wasn’t long ago I was portrayed as only as an action hero and told to stick to my day job. But with perseverance and patience, the time came where I could extend my want to do more in this industry, it

took a lot of courage, because no matter how good a script may be, if the audience isn’t ready your good intention can pass like the wind. As much as I love action, using comedy for social messages is fulfilling from within, I guess I’ve grown as much as my audience has, and this is where I believe the change starts, get into people’s mind and hearts and see what they do with that, I think everyone has the power to create greatness…

Women in Technology Having worked in the tech industry as a web developer and then as a project manager it still amazes me that more women don’t opt for roles in tech. Statistics show that for every 100 men in tech/computing-related roles women make a mere 15%. While the gap is vast there are small increases every year and surprisingly worldwide women from south Asian backgrounds tend to make a larger portion of the percentage. Keeping the stereotypical Asian tech person well and truly alive! There is a slight increase year on year but the disparity between the genders is still huge. Some of the main reason’s women tend not to choose STEM (science technology engineering and maths) and specifically computing as a career are briefly highlighted below. A Minority Women working at both board level and workforce is hugely underrepresented. A Tech Nation report looking into diversity revealed that 77% of tech leadership roles are filled by men and another report by BCS shows only 17% of the workforce are women. Findings like these raise the question of how to attract more women to tech roles and to roles of upper management and leadership. Gender pay gap Over 60% of women who were asked in the Women in Technology Survey 2019 agree that males earn a higher salary. Hopefully, with more women being encouraged to look at STEM careers the gap over time will become much shorter. More women working in junior position now means they are working towards tomorrow’s leadership positions. Training and Flexibility When considering jobs women reported in Women in Tech Survey 2019 that having benefits aimed at them and the option to work flexibly and from home is vital. The opportunities to grow skills, gain further training and salary were also important. The language used can also be confusing and technical terms for simple tasks can be difficult to understand. Working in IT can be very flexible and with the internet practically everywhere working remotely is a reality for many individuals.

Returnships

Essentially an internship but for already experienced professionals returning to work through training and a salary. Giving women this option means they can return to their senior positions quickly after a break to build skills and not start again from the bottom. This will also help in improving the gender pay gap. The more returnships available means more women getting to senior management roles and a higher salary. Role Models Showcasing more women who are already working in STEM careers will engage and inspire younger generations within schools to choose tech 31% of women agreed in The Women in Technology Survey 2019. They also agreed that there is a responsibility upon employers to encourage a shift in opinions and bring change. Technology and computing can seem daunting at first but if you have an inquisitive mind and want to know how things work and not just consume them then it’s a rewarding choice. There are so many resources available now to teach yourself like Udemy, Codecademy and Treehouse that are free and can get you started. A knowledgebase is key but, more importantly, the desire and willingness to continually develop and grow will keep you one step ahead. Bradford Based Muslim Women’s Council Celebrates 10 Year Milestone By Raheema Khan

Raheema@asiansunday.co.uk A women’s group based in Bradford celebrated it’s tenth anniversary at the Mercure Hotel in Bradford recently. The celebrations saw business owners, community and faith leaders and members of the community gather and celebrate the work of the Muslim Women’s Council (MWC’s). The milestone occasion also paid tribute to many of those who have been part of MWC’s journey. They also welcomed on board new members including Dr. Myriam Francois (wellknown broadcaster, writer and academic), Shabnam Khan (vocalist and tutor), and Kehkshan Ahmed (Solicitor, LPS Solicitors). MWC’s core team consists of eight Muslim women who have dedicated the past 10 years to empowering women. Their dedication and passion to the organisation’s vision has been instrumental in their continued progression and success. The event heard from powerful international speaker Dr Hany El-Banna OBE - the co-

founder of Islamic Relief, the largest Westernbased international Muslim relief and development NGO. He commented on the positive ways in which MWC had impacted the lives of communities and served to empower Muslim women. Lord Mayor of Bradford, Doreen Lee, also spoke of the wealth of knowledge and inspiration MWC has and looked forward to their future work.

attended the celebrations and said: “It’s amazing to be here and celebrate ten years of the Muslim Women’s Council. Over the years they’ve been empowering not just Muslim women, but all women to be confident and to speak out about issues. They’ve also supported a huge amount of social action within the city, which is hugely important and also provoked debate about things”

The evening profiled MWC’s work over the last 10 years, highlighting their annual conference ‘Daughters of Eve’, a variety of seminars and fundraising events, and an evening with Jon Snow, who sent the MWC a personal congratulatory message. The evening also recognised the efforts of the volunteers who gave their time for the Curry Circle feeding the vulnerable and homeless in Bradford as well as providing hot food, support and solidarity.

Muslim Women’s Council is headed by Bana Gora, who is the Chief Executive, she said: “We are delighted to have hosted this tenth anniversary event celebrating Bradford’s female Muslim powerhouse. “We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved and look forward to establishing new and sustaining partnerships to carry our work forward into the future”.

The Financial Environment Post General Elections So, the election is over, and the Conservatives have taken a large majority from the other parties. This for me is brilliant news because now we have one party that can make decisions, without being stopped by an opposition party, as has the case been for the last few years. So, what happens next then for England and our economy? For the first time in three years, we now have some certainty and clarity on the way our great country is heading. My view is that the UK economy will now start growing. We have already seen the pound jump three cents against the dollar and also shot to a high against the euro upon GE results being announced. Due to level of uncertainty in the past businesses have not been

investing funds. This has caused issues, whereby the level of growth has slowed down. In particular, I believe the UK small cap sector of companies will flourish going forward. In terms of exchange rates, my thoughts are that Sterling is actually cheap at the moment. Although it can be an issue for exporters from the UK, I think a stronger pound is not a bad thing, and I can see the pound getting stronger. I would not be surprised if like March - June 2015 the pound hits around 1.30 to 1.40 euros. Overall, we still have a long way to go with us looking to officially leave the EU next month. I guess that will bring further challenges to us as a country, which the optimistic in me feels we will positively overcome to get us back on track.

Yoghurt Wars Passing Off is a common law remedy concerned with the protection of reputation and goodwill of a business from misrepresentation by a competitor. In order for the Claimant to prove Passing Off, he must: • Establish that in the mind of the public there exists goodwill or reputation connected with the goods or services which the Claimant is providing; • Demonstrate that a misrepresentation has been made to the public which has led them to conclude that other goods or services are the same as those offered by the Claimant; • The Claimant has suffered damage by reason of the erroneous belief of the public. In the case of Fage UK Limited v Chobani UK Limited, Fage brought a claim for Passing Off against Chobani concerning the sale of thick and creamy yoghurt under the phrase “Greek yoghurt” in UK super markets. Fage was the UK distributor and sold Greek yoghurt under the brand “Total” and enjoyed a 95% share of the Greek yoghurt market in the UK. All yoghurt sold in the UK by Fage labelled “Greek yoghurt” was strained yoghurt made in Greece. Chobani (an American manufacturer) had sold yoghurt as “Greek yoghurt” in the USA and had entered the UK market with their American-produced “Greek yoghurt” in 2012. In the original trial at the High Court, Chobani argued that consumers took the term “Greek yoghurt” to mean a specific manufacturing process and that they did not necessarily believe that the yoghurt originated from Greece. Fage argued that only yoghurt that had been made from Greece could accurately be described as Greek yoghurt. The Court agreed with Fage and found that

Greek yoghurt meant creamy yoghurt made in Greece, the pretence that similarly labelled US yoghurt was the same was wrong and would cause damage to reputation of the genuine article. Moreover, the Court found that a substantial proportion of buyers of the product described as “Greek yoghurt” believed that it came from Greece and it mattered to them that it did. Greek yoghurt had to be made in Greece for it to be worthy of that name as this is what UK consumers understood it to be. It therefore followed that Chobani’s description of their product as “Greek yoghurt” was a misrepresentation of that product. The Court therefore granted Fage a permanent Injunction preventing Chobani from marketing yoghurt in the UK as “Greek yoghurt”. Chobani appealed against the decision. The Court of Appeal dismissed Chobani’s appeal and rejected its argument that its USproduced yoghurt could be sold as “Greek yoghurt”. The Court instead agreed with Fage’s argument that the majority of the consumers believe that “Greek yoghurt” came from Greece – which suggested the product was special. Consequently, Fage’s permanent injunction remained in place. At Blacks, we can provide you with advice and assist you with any disputes involving intellectual property or any action concerning Passing Off. Precious and Rare: Islamic metalwork at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery Exhibition A small selection of the Courtauld Gallery's important collection of Islamic inlaid brassware contains some of the finest examples of this intricate and refined craft. This significant collection is comprised of Islamic metalwork ranging in date from the 13th to the 16th centuries. It was formed by one of the great Victorian art collectors. Thomas Gambier Parry (1816 - 1888), to complement his acquisitions of precious medieval and early Renaissance paintings and decorative arts. Many of the best pieces in the collection have been on

permanent display in The Courtauld Gallery since their bequest in 1966. But the metalwork has rarely left London, and never has such a large group of metalwork objects been brought together to be shown outside The Courtauld. Precious and Rare: Islamic metalwork from the Courtauld Gallery explores the origin and cultural context of these extraordinary objects, alongside displays of painting, photography, calligraphy and glassware from Bradford Museums and Galleries.

Golden Girl Farah Does Bradford Proud in Pomsae National Tournament

would lead her to Horizon Taekwondo, a local academy in Bradford for Taekwondo fighters.

the best-disabled sportswomen in the UK. Her recent medal haul in recent years is a testament to that.

Farah Yasin is celebrating after she achieved a gold medal in the Poomsae National, an event where Taekwondo athletes take part in a national tournament. The National Championships were held over two days (30 November- 1 December), at the University of Worcester arena.

One person who helped Yasin as she looked to acclimatise herself to the academy was Rick Simpson, the head coach master of the academy. After he welcomed the Bradford Taekwondo gold medalist to the academy, this, in turn, paved the way for success for Farah.

Congratulations from Asian Sunday on your success, you have done yourself, your community and the UK proud. You are a shining example of how far you can go in life with hard work and dedication no matter the obstacles or difficulties in life.

Farah, who eight years ago became wheelchair-bound, initially tried her hand in boxing but decided to not pursue this path. The lack of progression opportunities that boxing had to offer led her to look at alternative career paths.

A gold medal at the British Pomsae National Championships in 2017 was achieved as well as a gold medal in the 2018 championships in Harrogate. The Bradford gold medalist achieved more gold medals in 2019 too, to complement the ones achieved in 2017 and 2018.

This in part led to the now 2017 Poomsae National gold medalist, to pursue Taekwondo where Farah, after searching and doing extensive research, would eventually come about. The path wasn’t easy for the Bradford athlete, to get to where she is now.

To commemorate Farah Yasin’s gold medal successes of 2017,2018 and 2019, the Bradford Taekwondo fighter won a very prestigious award.

Gold medalist Yasin, for 18 months didn’t have a place to go to where she could hone her skills and develop herself as her interest in Taekwondo intensified. Obstacles due to her respective condition brought its obvious challenges. Thankfully for Farah, the path to pursue her dream, was starting to clear up. In her words, Farah Yasin describes how by a simple search on social media search engines, this

The team wishes you the very best for the future and beyond.

Farah, to cap off a great year in 2019 which included becoming black belt Taekwondo amongst many highlights, won an award in the prestigious Bradford sports awards. The Horizon Taekwondo fighter won the 2019 disabled sportswoman of the year. As impressive as these achievements are, Farah Yasin’s success should surely be celebrated by all. Looking at her journey, Farah, through her sheer handwork and dedication has made impressive strides towards being amongst

The world of sport, it has this amazing knack of stirring so many emotions and all at the same time. Tennis is no different. In the men’s game for the past decade, if not slightly longer, three names are always there or thereabout when it comes to the top honours. Rafael Nadal, Rodger Federer and Novak Djokovic. All are past 30, but this hasn’t stopped this trio reigning supreme and dominating the Grand Slam tournaments for a sustained period of time. There was the fourth member in this elite club, a certain Andy Murray, but sadly injury has affected his career. Maybe the Scot would return to somewhere he once was, but what counts against the three-time Grand Slam winner is his age. The 32-year old after successfully recovering from hip surgery is competing as a singles competitor on the ATP tour again, but one has to think the ability to compete at the latter stages of The Slams is some way off. The illustrious trio we mentioned, can’t go on forever. After Stefanos Tsitiapas’ win at the season-ending ATP finals where he beat Dominic Thiem, The Sports Desk takes a look to see if this could be the end of the domination of tennis’ top three players. Dominic Thiem Austrian Thiem, at 26 years-old is arguably getting towards the peak of his career. A

former world number two in the junior ranks, Thiem has transferred some of that talent into the senior game.

Successive finals in the French Open (2018 and 2019, losing to Rafael Nadal in both finals), is nothing to be ashamed of. Even Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer have struggled to topple the King Of Clay. If there is an area where the Austrian needs to address, it’s sure that the 26-year old hasn’t got to the latter stages of the grass-court tournaments such as Wimbledon and the Australian Open. The talent is there, and Dominic Thiem has most definitely shown that the man himself and his supporters will be hoping for a better season next season.

consisted of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic for too long. For previous winners of the season-ending tournament, it’s not quite happened that way, but the 21-year old Greek player will be hoping for better fortunes. Alexander Zverev Zverev, the 22-year old German won the ATP finals, but sadly as far as this season is concerned, hasn’t quite been able to kick on and compete in the latter stage of tennis’ elite tournaments for whatever reason. The talent is there, Alexander Zverev is a former world junior number one, but a quarter-final in

the 2018 and 2019 French Open’s is the best the man who now resides in Monte Carlo has on his Grand Slam record. The hallmarks are there for Alexander Zverev, but maybe a change in mindset will be key in helping the German make the step up to regularly competing with the world’s elite. So there you have it, our look at some of the world’s best and up and coming talent in the tennis world. These four men, will have their work cut out as the big three’s power in tennis hasn’t waned just yet, but when these men retire, we feel tennis is in good hands moving forward. Stefanos Tsitsipas

The 21-year old Greek is the youngest in the top 10, but the 21-year old has shown promise along the way. Tsitsipas has just recently won the end of tour ATP finals tournament, a tournament where the best eight players in the world play. Messers Nadal, Federer and Djokovic were in playing attendance, but neither of those players were to come out on top. Instead, it was 21-year old Stefanos Tsitsipas, who resides in the glamour of Monte Carlo these days. Winning a first major tournament is a monkey off your back and hopefully, this will help propel Tsitsipas into the elite group that has

The Challengers To The Hamilton Throne By AYYAZ MALIK

ayyaz@asiansunday.co.uk One of the youngest F1 world champion and a six-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton is edging ever closer to not only levelling but beating arguably the greatest F1 driver of all-time Micheal Schumacher’s seven world titles. It’s argued that Hamilton doesn’t have a competitive field to compete against him, but Ferrari’s Sebastien Vettel is a four-time champion. Even the legendary Schumacher, arguably had a weak field in his era. In the case of both, there is also a very talented field of racers on the F1 grid, where the championship pedigree of both of these men, meant that the other drivers never had the chance to be world champion, such was the sheer class of Schumacher and now Hamilton The team at Asian Sunday will assess some of the young and upcoming drivers and also the drivers who are more experienced after this season in particular and can sustain a challenge to the six-time world champion next season. Charles Leclerc (Monaco) -Ferrari When Ferrari announced that Charles LeClerc will be joining the Italian giants, some people would have no doubt raised eyebrows. The bosses at Ferrari knew that

they were doing, out went former world champion Kimi Raikkonen and in came a youngster from Monaco who at the ripe age of 22, has outshone his more esteemed teammate Vettel.

challenging Lewis Hamilton for next season’s world championship.

A new kid on the block he may be, but Leclerc has won the GP3 Series championship in 2016 and the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2017, so the Monaco man even at a young age does know how to win a title or two.

Just like Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen is also 22-years old and also possess a lot of talent. Verstappen, just like Vettel does have a short fuse and this has cost the young Dutchman in the past.

Maybe, a season too early to win the title next season, but if this season is anything to go by, Charles Leclerc will most definitely be a driver who will be in world champion Lewis Hamilton’s rearview mirror. Sebastien Vettel (German) - Ferrari In the case of the four-time world champion and youngest ever world champion Vettel, here we have one of the most frustrating racing drivers in F1 today. In recent seasons, it was arguably Spain’s former two-time Fernando Alonso, but the former Red Bull racing driver Vettel’s move to Ferrari has gone far from the plan. He makes this list because it can’t be ignored that the German has four-world titles and the talent is evident for the world to see. What the 32-year old needs to do is to cut out the errors, which has lead to penalty points. If he does that, then we have another driver who’s capable of

Max Verstappen (Nederlands) - Red Bull

This season, the Red Bull driver is third in the driver’s standings behind the two Mercedes of Bottas and Hamilton. Verstappen is the youngest ever F1 driver ever to compete in the sport at 17-years old, the Belgian-Dutch racing driver will be hoping he can continue his development and have a closer challenge with the Mercedes next season. Valtteri Bottas (Finland) - Mercedes Last, but not least on our list is Valtteri Bottas. The Fin, who was brought in to the Mercedes after Nico Hulkenberg’s shock retirement, has been seen as Lewis Hamilton’s understudy. The former Williams driver has won four races in 2019 and will be hoping to continue his improvement in the up and coming season. The Fin, who is of course team-mate to sixtime world champion Hamilton, will be looking to take advantage of the Mercedes car and put more pressure on his illustrious team-mate. So there you have it our list for drivers who can challenge Lewis Hamilton

next season. Some of the choices may not be that surprising, but one thing is for sure is that next season has the potential to be a classic. The team at Asian Sunday will keep you up to date with all the action. Sebastien Vettel Image Credit: Twitter

Mour Of The Same Please Guys By AYYAZ MALIK

ayyaz@asiansunday.co.uk

When you hear of the name Jose Mourinho, one thinks of a few things. Pantomime villain, a performer in front of the big screen, a not very likeable arrogant person. These are just some ways the former Inter Milan manager can be described as. Naturally, these stereotypes and prejudices the 56-year-old loves and plays up to. If Jose’s first press conference as the new Tottenham Hotspur boss is anything to go by, the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager was keen to show himself in a different light. Mourinho for all his arrogance he is said to have had talked about being humble and went on to praise his predecessor and opened the door for the popular Argentine to come back to Spurs’ stadium whenever he wanted. With the charm offensive done in the press conference done, the team at Asian Sunday take a look to assess what kind of job is needed for the so-called Special One and if he’s got his work cut out in North London. There are several issues of contention that we will look at and break down. Playing style For all of his success, Jose Mourinho’s sides have all been criticised for one thing, for being too pragmatic - too cautious. In the Portuguese’s first press conference as the new Tottenham manager, the former Chelsea manager has talked about wanting to keep the same style of play as his predecessor. That’s very good to hear from the neutral point of view, Spurs do have plenty of attacking talent in their team. Harry Kane, Lucas Moura, Delle Ali and Christian Eriksen are the players that come into the mind. Jose wouldn’t have got to where he is if he wasn’t a tactically aware manager. Yes, they have Jan Vertongen, Toby Alderweireld and a brilliant goalkeeper in Hugo Loris, but it’s clear

to see that their strengths lie at the top end of the pitch.

With the former Manchester United manager coming out and saying that he doesn’t want to change much, that’s great for the football purist. We do express caution though, however. The North Londoners have been too open, Mourinho’s first two games has seen Spurs conceded two goals in both games, it only emphasises our point even more.

a new manager comes to a club.

doing the right things.

Tottenham Hotspur will no doubt be better with those four players in their team. With manager Jose Mourinho at the helm, it would be hoped that not only could these players stay, but another world-class talent can be attracted to the club as a result of the Portuguese manager’s appointment.

Prowling his touchline, kicking every ball and even coming out in the media to praise his Tottenham players. Some of the things, that were arguably missing as his time at Manchester United.

Man management

That’s not what a Jose Mourinho team symbolises. Hardworking, well drilled and well organised are what is to be expected from a team that is managed by the former Porto manager.

Ask Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Samuel Etoo and they will tell you Jose was and still is a great manager, if one was to ask Messers Pogba, Ramos and Casillas, they might not be as complimentary.

As talented as Spurs’ front line and attacking players are, to concede two goals a game is putting pressure on the attack, it’s essentially asking them to score at least three a game.

Those are stories of the past, the good and the bad. The man himself has been keen to tell the world’s media that after 11 months away from the game that he’s now a changed man. Early doors, Jose Mourinho has been

Jose would have identified this area and the need for it to be addressed, Tottenham fans can be assured of that.

Of course, this is early doors, but the former Chelsea and United boss has made a good start in this regard. Just for good measure, let’s throw in a highfive with the ball boy after he cleverly played a part in the equalising goal in the 4-2 win over Olympiacos. Will Jose succeed in North London? you can’t help but think yes, wherever, he has gone he’s won trophies. The challenge for the Special One, however, is if he can do it for the long haul, this is where the success is truly defined.

Players wanting to leave It happens with every manager and former manager Mauricio Pochettino was no different. As much as he was loved and adored, the rumours and players coming out in public saying they wanted to leave Tottenham haven’t helped. Christian Eriksen, Danny Rose, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertongen are just some of the players who for one reason or another have uncertain futures at the club. All four, on their day are arguably amongst the best in the Premier League in their respective positions. It appeared to be obvious that whilst former manager Pochettino remained in charge, some of those players if not all were set to leave. With the change of manager, although not a guarantee this could change, there always tends to be a change of mindset when
