District’s Ancient Treasures Go On Public Display Fascinating prehistoric artefacts from Bradford district’s ancient past will go back on display at the Bracken Hall Countryside Centre in Baildon.
Visitors to the centre will have the opportunity to get up close to a decorated cinerary urn recently dated to between1688 and 1527 BC. The ancient urn which held the remains of a man estimated to be around 25 years old was found just over the hill on Baildon Moor along with a bronze knife and a small barbed-and-tanged flint arrowhead. Lack of marks on the man’s bones lead museum professionals to believe the man died from natural causes rather than a violent death. The urn, and especially its contents, is of particular interest because it marks a period of transition from stone to bronze age technology. The urn will be displayed alongside another important Baildon find – the famous Heygate Stone, a beautifully crafted ‘ cup and ring petroglyph’ a stone picture created by carving or
picking away the rock surface.
These cup and ring stones appear across all of Europe and the Middle East but the meanings of the patterns carved in the rocks remain a mystery. Other items to go on display include an iron age sickle found on Baildon Moor in the 1920s, a Neolithic stone axe head unearthed on Dobrudden Farm in the 1940s, and several flint tools including knives, arrowheads and scrapers discovered on Baildon Moor in the 1920s. Two Roman coins will also be included, one of which was found in Shipley Glen very close to the centre. All the items have been loaned by Bradford Museums & Galleries. Museum staff have worked with Bracken Hall Countryside Centre to ensure these objects, that are local to the Baildon area, go back on display as they form a rich and important part of local history.
said: “These items give a fascinating insight into what local life was like thousands of years ago. “We are delighted to be working with Bracken Hall Countryside Centre to allow local people to connect with our incredible heritage.” Councillor Joe Ashton from Baildon Town Council, said: “After an absence of several years, it is really pleasing and exciting to have the items found on Baildon Moor and Shipley Glen returning to public view in our local visitor centre. “I would like to thank the Bradford Museums and Baildon Town Council staff, as well as our volunteers, for enabling this to happen.” The items will go on display from November and be available to see until late 2024. The Bracken Hall Countryside Centre is open Saturdays and Sundays, 12 to 4pm. Admission is free.

Campaigner tells community leaders educating their children is key to success of British Pakistanis
British Pakistanis need to ensure their children get the best possible education, community leaders in Bradford were told at an event. They were told that both boys and girls should be supported in their choices – including marriages. The call was among a raft of strategies put forward by a leading European campaigner on ethnic issues to help raise achievement levels among Britain’s 1.5 million Pakistanis. Bashy Quraishy, who was born in India but grew up in Pakistan, was invited to speak to more than 20 community leaders at the event organised by Dr Mohammed Ali, CEO of Bradford-based charity, the QED Foundation. Mr Quraishy, who studied engineering in Germany and the USA and international marketing in London, is a member of numerous commissions, committees and boards involved with human rights, ethnic and religious equality issues, anti-racism, anti-discrimination, Islamophobia and antiSemitism in the EU and internationally.
the same mix. “Be a member of a political party, a trade union, a sports club or any other branch of interest. Interaction with the majority is vital to convey your needs and ask for your rights. If you are not visible there, then you are isolated and that is a recipe for backwardness. “Establish networks – locally, regionally and nationally. Not only for the name but for rights. Refrain from being a one-man NGO or a gatekeeper. The majority society only listens when you have power. If you cannot do that, be a part of an established NGO that you trust. “Last but not least, make humanity the banner. Humanity is above everything in life.” He said the anti-racism struggle across Europe was ongoing and there was no quick-fix formula for success but it was vital that minority groups practised solidarity and involvement with each other by building alliances to achieve their equality goals.
The author of eight books on minority issues, covering media, identity, racism and the European Union, he is now based in Denmark, where he is Chief Editor of Media Watch, Chairman of the Ethnic Debate Forum, a media monitoring organisation, and a member of the Advisory Council of the Danish Human Rights Institute.
But, he said, focus on religion and party politics was getting in the way of people of Pakistani backgrounds making progress.
He also hosts a weekly television programme dealing with societal issues such as intercultural living, integration, Islamophobia, human rights and minorities in the media.
“Mother-tongue education is lacking and so is the knowledge of Pakistan, Pakistani cultures and history. The import of religious leaders from home to Europe is causing problems because often they give statements or lectures that are inflammatory because they do not know the society or the country in which they live.”
Mr Quraishy told guests at the Mumtaz restaurant, in Great Horton Road, that many of the eight million people of colour in the UK had done well in the last 50 years but many Pakistanis had fallen behind other minorities. “Influence and power comes through solid organisation, common goals, and solidarity,” he said. “Religion is important but we should not make it our first identity as some Pakistanis are doing. “Identity is like an onion; it has many layers, such as colour, culture, ethnicity, nationality, education or job. Religion is also in
“There is too much focus on building mosques but seldom on establishing a community centre, a media centre or just an activity place for all Pakistanis,” said Mr Quraishy.
Dr Ali said: “Bashy Quraishy is highly respected across Europe for his lifelong quest for equality and justice for minorities and his work has had a major impact in many areas. “We’re really grateful to him for taking the time to visit and share his thoughts on the issues that are holding back progress among British Pakistanis in particular, the sort of issues we will be discussing at the inaugural Network
of Pakistani Organisations Annual Conference next month.” The conference, which will bring together representatives of around 100 organisations working to support some of
the UK’s most disadvantaged communities, is taking place at the Aga Khan University, in London, on Thursday, November 28.

Teenager locked up for drug dealing A TEENAGER has been locked up for more than two years after he quit his job at HM Revenue and Customs to sell drugs on the street for “easy money”. Ihthisham, of Manningham, who is now 20, pleaded guilty to two offences of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs committed on November 27 last year. Prosecutor Andrew Horton told Bradford Crown Court that Ihthisham was seen behaving suspiciously by police officers patrolling the Highfield area of Keighley in an unmarked car. They saw Ihthisham, who was 19 at the time, walk out of a ginnel to sell drugs to someone in a garden in Mornington Street. When arrested and searched, he was found to have 10 wraps of heroin in his pocket, worth £85 and of 62 per cent purity, and five wraps of crack cocaine, valued at £36 and of 80 per cent purity. Ihthisham also had a phone on him referring to dealing
in w and b, meaning white and brown, slang for cocaine and heroin. He also had £50 in cash on him. He made no comment when he was questioned by the police. Solicitor advocate Michael Walsh conceded that Ihthisham was “in an extremely precarious position”. He had a good job with HM Customs and Revenue before leaving that employment and spending time in the wrong company. Ihthisham then felt pressured to deal in drugs and had been doing it for about two weeks when he was caught.
or since. Mr Walsh urged the court to exercise mercy and not send him to custody. But Judge Rose said Ihthisham was an intelligent man who knew the damage drugs did to people in the community. “You saw this as easy money and chose that rather than obtaining other employment,” he said. Judge Rose warned other young men of a similar age to Ihthisham that immediate custody awaits them if they sell drugs on the streets.
Mr Walsh said that his client was young and immature and had since turned his life around. His arrest, almost 11 months ago, had been the jolt he needed, and he was glad he had been apprehended. He knew he had brought shame on his respectable and hard-working family, none of whom had ever been in trouble with the police. Ihthisham now worked in a restaurant and he was studying business, maths and English at college.

Bradford taxi driver jailed for causing death by dangerous driving Bradford taxi driver Yasir Qadoos, has been sentenced to three and a half years’ imprisonment, at Leeds Crown Court today for causing the death of Mohammed Zaman. Qadoos, 41, of Ravenshouse Road, Dewsbury Moor, was also disqualified from driving for five years, extended for 21 months and required to take an extended test. On 13 June, as he drove home from work in the evening through Thornhill Lees, Dewsbury, Qadoos became enraged when Mr Zaman overtook him on Overthorpe Road, and so began to drive competitively. Both drivers then engaged in a high speed, race along the Thornhill Road, at times reaching twice the speed limit and undertaking highly dangerous manoeuvres. Their actions clearly posed considerable risk both to themselves and other road users. The events were captured on CCTV and a dashcam recovered from Qadoos’s taxi, on
which he is heard to sound his horn aggressively and say in Urdu ‘I get crazy if someone overtakes me.’ After less than 30 seconds of the two of them racing, Mohammed Zaman lost control of his vehicle and crashed. He was propelled through the windscreen, sustained massive injuries and died at the scene. Jonathan Sharp from the CPS said: “Yasir Qadoos had ample opportunity to disengage from the race by simply pulling over. But he did not. “Displaying reckless stupidity, he chose instead to continue driving aggressively and at high speed, not only causing danger to other road users but also being a cause of the death of Mohammed Zaman. “As a result, a life has been cut tragically short and Qadoos is now beginning a three-and-ahalf-year prison sentence.”

Meet the Next Generation of Bradford’s One of Oldest Curry House BRADFORD | OCTOBER 2019
The Sweet Centre is one of Bradford’s oldest curry houses and is a very important fabric of Bradford’s hospitality industry. The family run curry house has seen three generations continue the success story and continue to provide delicious authentic Pakistani cuisine. However, it seems it might be time for the all-male run establishment to move over as the next generation are planning to take over the reins. The Sweet Centre’sfourth generation, sisters Fatimah Bashir Mughal (8) and Tayyibah Bashir Mughal (6) recently appeared on CBBC’s All Over The place programme

where they cooked up a storm and prepared one of the family’s most loved sweet dish, gulab jamun. After their successful stint on the show Asian Sunday caught up with the cheeky duo to find out more about their love for cooking and what they think of the family business. Both sisters unanimously decided they wanted to take over the running of their family restaurant, however both had different styles of running the establishment While Fatimah had a more laidback approach Tayyibah wanted to keep a firmer hand on the team and encourage them to work hard.
“I want to make it where only girls work here” Said Fatimah She even had tasks decided for team members. She told us how, one person would take note of the orders, who then passes it to the person to make the order, who would then pass it to the person to serve the order. While younger sister Tayyibah and the cheekier of the two said: “If they are sat there doing nothing, I will tell them to go and clean that table up” The youngsters also shared their experience of being on the CBBC show. They enjoyed wearing fake moustaches and acting for the
camera. Neither were camera shy. “We had to make Gulab Jamun and it was so much fun” Said Tayyibah “At first we were going to make falooda”, Fatimah revealed. “Butthen they changed their mind and we ended up making gulab jamun” Dad Waqar Ali, was very proud of the sister team and told Asian Sunday: “These ladies are the future of Sweet Centre and it would give me so much satisfaction if they did take over from us and brought their female touch to the restaurant. Celebrations to honour 550th Anniversary of Sikh Guru are being held across the UK Inspirational celebrations honouring 550 years since the birth of the first Sikh Guru are uniting communities across the country. Thousands are expected to come together from across the UK to pay tribute to Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of the faith. Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born in Rai Bhoi Ki Talvandi, now Pakistan's Nankana Sahib, in 1469. Communities across the globe will mark the anniversary with a mix of events throughout this year, with the UK expected to host the biggest celebrations after India. Cities such as Wolverhampton have already held events filling venues such as the Chancellor’s Hall at the Wulfruna Building, where a string of speeches highlighting the teachings of Guru Nanak were said. Speeches have included motivational messages of peace, gender equality, rejecting discrimination and promoting harmony among communities. Deputy High Commissioner of India Charanjeet Singh also spoke at the event. He said: “Guru Nanak's teachings are universal - they appeal to people across religions, countries, and societies.
“His message of peace and brotherhood is all the more relevant now.” “Thank you for setting that example and making that difference when another community was under attack - great example to us all.” There will be a spate of events being held across Yorkshire over the next few months to mark the anniversary and pay special tributes of the founder of Sikhism. Little is known about the life of Guru Nanakji, but there are a set of janam sakhis, (traditional stories) which relate to various incidents from his life and include many of his important teachings. Sikh traditions teach that his birth and early years were marked with many events that demonstrated that God had marked him out for something special and was keeping an eye on him. His family were Hindus, but Nanak soon showed an advanced interest in religion and studied Islam and Hinduism extensively. As a child he demonstrated great ability as a poet and philosopher. One famous story about Guru Nanak tells of his rebellion at the age of eleven. At this
age Hindu boys of his caste would start to wear the sacred thread to distinguish them. Nanak refused, saying that people should be distinguished by the things that they did, and their individual qualities, rather than by a thread. Nanak continued to demonstrate a radical spiritual streak - arguing with local holy men and sages, both Hindu and Muslim, that external things like pilgrimages, penances, and poverty were of far less spiritual importance than internal changes to the individual's soul.
last part of his life was spent at Kartarpur in the Punjab, where he was joined by many disciples attracted by his teachings. The most famous teachings attributed to Guru Nanakji are that there is only one God, and that all human beings can have direct access to God with no need of rituals or priests. His most radical social teachings denounced the caste system and taught that everyone is equal, regardless of caste or gender.
He worked for a while as an accountant but while still quite young decided to devote himself to spiritual matters. He was inspired by a powerful spiritual experience that gave him a vision of the true nature of God, and confirmed his idea that the way to spiritual growth was through meditation and through living in a way that reflected the presence of the divine within each human being. In 1496, although married and having a family, Nanak set out on a set of spiritual journeys through India, Tibet and Arabia that lasted nearly 30 years. He studied and debated with the learned men he met along the way and as his ideas took shape, he began to teach a new route to spiritual fulfilment and the good life. The

Bradford Odeon Begins to See Light BRADFORD | OCTOBER 2019
The redevelopment of the former Odeon cinema into a live music venue is well underway. Asian Sunday was invited to get a behind the scenes look at one of Bradford's most significant regeneration projects. During a tour of the building, we spoke to Bradford Live’s Lee Craven who was delighted with the progress of the building so far. He said: “It’s wonderful first of all to see the building revealed as it really is. It’s probably one of the best buildings in the country, if not ‘the’ best” “It’s also a sense of relief because it was quite a risky operation to try and get these old cinemas out. There were really massive structures and there was a real risk of damaging the old building while it was being done. So,
WWW.ASIANSUNDAY.CO.UK
we have been very fortunate we have had a very capable group of contractors who have taken enormous care to ensure no damage is done. Once it’s finished, I think it will be quite something” Also present during the tour was local historian Mark Nicholson who originally campaigned with the Bradford Odeon Rescue Group for the building to be saved. As we toured around and saw some of the stunning and original architecture, Mark shared how lucky and relieved he was that the building was saved. He described how Bradford was an affluent city back in the 1930’s when the building was originally built and it’s going to be wonderful that the legacy of this building is now going to remain for future generations to enjoy. Mark is also putting together a book which will
record the history and heritage of the former Bradford Odeon, which will be released early next year. The live music venue is set to open its doors to the public by around Summer 2021 with the NEC group tasked to operate the building, bringing their expertise in live events, conferencing and catering to Bradford for the next 30 years. There will be a variety of food and drink outlets inside Bradford Live to suit all dietary requirements, including halal. Here are some key facts on the project so far:
2000 • The Odeon closed its doors in 2000 and has been empty ever since. It fell into disrepair and was added to the Theatres at Risk register in 2008.
£1
• Ownership of the Odeon was transferred to the Homes and Communities Agency who in turn handed it over to Bradford Council for £1 in 2013. • Yorkshire Forward bought the building for £2m in 2003, but a plan to demolish and replace it with offices was scrapped when the regional development agency itself was abolished in 2012. • In 2014 the council approved a plan by Bradford Live, a not-for-profit distribution social enterprise, led by Lee Craven, to create a live music venue after inviting developers to submit commercially viable ideas for the building.

NEC
• In April 2018, Bradford live signed a contract with the NEC Group to operate the venue. The Group has made a 30year commitment with plans for over 200 events annually.
• Planning permission was granted by Bradford Metropolitan District Council’s Development Committee in March 2019.
£1 BILLION • The project received a £357,500 investment from the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP), delivered by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority. The grant was part of the Leeds City Region Growth Deal – a £1 billion plus package of Government investment to accelerate growth and create jobs across Leeds City Region.

Is ‘Diversity’ Still Just a Buzzword? When I was invited to attend an event at the Southbank Centre on Thursday evening, gloriously title ‘Bradford Champions Modern British Culture’ I wasn’t sure what to expect. I knew that the event was part of the city’s bid to become UK City of Culture 2025 and that there would be many well-established names from the creative industries and broadcasting. On those two points, the event did not disappoint; the speakers and the panel were heavyweights from both arenas. But as I walked into the room, a familiar feeling started to overtake me. It had happened again. But I’ll come back to that in a moment. As a lifelong Londoner, I thought hmm, let’s see what Bradford has to say for itself. As it turns out, Bradford has plenty to say for itself and deservedly so. Without launching into a history lesson; did you know that Bradford was a classic boomtown of the Industrial Revolution years and quickly became the wool capital of the world? I’m not pulling the wool over your eyes – it really was. In 2019, excluding London, figures show that Bradford is currently undergoing the biggest population growth in the UK. The city also has the largest proportion of underfives and under 19-year olds, and the largest average household size. Between 2001 and the 2011 Census, the overall population grew by 11% to 470,800 and this is set to continue by current projections. We don’t always think of Bradford first when we think about music, literature or arts and culture, but maybe we should because David Hockney, the Bronte sisters and JB Priestley all hailed from Bradford, as does magician Dynamo and global star Zayn Malik. If that
doesn’t impress, then maybe this will; In 2009, Bradford beat Cannes, Venice and LA to be named the world’s first UNESCO City of Film because of its long association with filmmaking. Bradford hosts a number of high-profile and internationally recognised film festivals and film related events. Economically, the city is just as vibrant. Bradford has a young and dynamic workforce, creative entrepreneurs and global business links. There is a high level of selfemployment and business start-ups. More than 40 large companies have their headquarters in the district and employ more than 370,000 people with a combined turnover of around £30 billion. As if all that wasn’t enough, Bradford has been named Curry Capital of Britain for five years running! So, back to why I had that same familiar feeling as I walked into the room. Well, it was because I couldn’t see anybody who looked like me. No, I wasn’t expecting my doppelganger (that would have been weird – shock face emoji goes here) but where were all the brown and black faces? There were less than10 in a room full of at least 50 to 60 people. Diversity, of course, isn’t just about colour or ethnicity, it is also about class disability and youth. Where were the dynamic young people, other than the breakdance act, at the beginning? Why wasn’t there a young person on the panel speaking about what winning the bid would mean to them? There was plenty of diversity; from smiling hijabis to an elderly Rasta man to young people dancing on the promotional video. However, I was left wondering, beyond the video, will they have a real say and exert their influence during the bid process? I really hope so because Bradford sounds like an amazing place.
Don’t get me wrong, it was heartwarming to see so much Bradfordian pride in the room but surely, the organisers would have thought about the optics given the nature of the event which was, partly, to promote Bradford’s diversity. I did have a quick chat with Kersten England, the Chief Executive of Bradford Council, who assured me there was much more diversity at the morning event in Bradford. Which is brilliant but let’s see more of
it everywhere. There was a lot of talking the talk, but not much walking the walk, I’m afraid. There was plenty of good chat about diversity, in fact, it was the buzzword in the room and kept popping up in speeches and comments from the panel, but I didn’t see much of it in action in the audience or on the panel. I was in the Mayor of London’s Press Office when London won the bid to host the London 2012 Games and it
was a magical moment when the news was announced. I’ll never forget attending the opening ceremony of the Paralympics. One of the reasons London won the Games was because of its diversity. Just like the eyes of the world were on London in 2012, the eyes of the UK are now on Bradford and, if they play this one right, this could be Bradford’s ‘Olympic’ moment.

Kerry Washington to costar with Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman Actress Kerry Washington has joined the big-ticket cast of Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman in Ryan Murphys “The Prom”. The Netflix project is a film adaptation of the stage musical, based on an original concept by Jack Viertel, and a book by Bob Martin and Chad Beguelin, reports hollywoodreporter.com. “The Prom” focuses on the experiences of an Indiana lesbian teenager who wants to bring her girlfriend to her school’s big dance. Instead, they are banned from attending as a couple, prompting a cast of Broadway eccentrics to descend on the small-town home to help fight the injustice. Streep is set to play two-time Tony
winner Dee Dee Allen and James Corden will play Barry Glickman. They are Broadway co-stars who see their Eleanor Roosevelt musical get bashed by The New York Times, sparking a crisis that prompts them to try to make over their image by adopting a cause. It also features Awkwafina, Ariana Grande, Keegan-Michael Key and Andrew Rannells. Murphy is adapting the Broadway show as the first movie project announced under his Netflix deal. The producer behind “American Horror Story” and “American Crime Story” left 20th Century Fox Television for a megadeal at the streaming giant worth $300 million.
When Paul Rudd ran over Jennifer Aniston’s injured toe
Days after the iconic sitcom “Friends” completed 25 years, actor Paul Rudd recalled his time filming the show and running over actress Jennifer Aniston’s injured toe.
‘Is it too late to fire him? Has his character been established yet?’ I felt awful. Such an inauspicious start,” Rudd recalled.
On “The Graham Norton Show”, the “Antman” star revealed that while filming for his first episode on the show, Jennifer was using a Segway because she had broken her toe. However, when he tried it out he accidentally rolled over her injured foot.
The show made Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry household names and most fans still love to refer the actors by their character names -- Rachel, Ross, Monica, Phoebe, Joey and Chandler respectively.
“’I was on the set for my first episode and Jennifer was on a Segway because she had broken her toe, and everyone was marvelling at it.
Over time, the actors have garnered a huge fan base for themselves, ever since the first episode was aired on September 22, 1994.
Matt LeBlanc asked to have a go and immediately knew how to do it. I then asked to try it too. I spun round and rolled it right over Jennifer’s foot,” Rudd said, “The producers’ look of panic was as if to say,
Although the show is long over after 10 successful seasons that ran from 1994 to 2004, its reruns are still popular on satellite television and OTT platforms.

AWARD WINNING BEAUTY SALON
Prity Farooq is the owner & founder of Prity: the award winning beauty salon offering a high end spa, hair & beauty service in Bradford. Prity's impeccable service teamed with its ever-evolving range of products and services has made it a success and it continues to grow bigger and better. The journey that led to the creation of Prity- the salon, began long before in the heart of India where Prity (the owner) grew up. She was born in Jamshedpur, India and from an early age Prity had a creative flair for Business and Art. She honed her skills whilst training in New Delhi, learning ancient herbal and Ayurvedic
remedies which she planned to bring to the Western Market here in the UK. She has since been working as a hair and beauty therapist in the UK since 1991. Prity's debut into the beauty industry came about when she opened her successful flagship branch on Legrams Lane in 2005. Since then, she has received much recognition for her signature beauty treatments, as well as her highly maintained business standards of hygiene. Prity Hair, Beauty & Spa has won numerous awards, most notably the ‘Customer Excellence Awards for three years running.
Do You Suffer from Scarring or Pigmentation? Then Mesotherapy Might Be the Answer Ever since a young age, I have had a special passion for skincare and learnt mostly ancient herbal and ayurvedic remedies. So, when I moved to the UK and opened my salon over a decade ago, I was very focused on maintaining simple natural treatments to my clients and now thanks to advanced technology and regular learning I have been able to bring about new advanced treatments with the help of new technologies. This month therefore I want to share with everyone the treatment of Mesotherapy Mesotherapy is a gentle safe, simple and effective digital collagen induction facial treatment for men and women wanting to target the following: •
Fine lines and Wrinkles
• • • •
Oily skin Scarring, including acne and chickenpox scars. Open pores Pigmentation including age spots
The tiny needles used in skin micro-needling make microscopic channels in the dermis, triggering the body’s healing response to kickstart production of new collagen and elastin, plumping up the skin resulting in smoother, firmer, younger looking skin. In the treatment of scarring, it rejuvenates tissue resulting in the relaxation of scar tissue. The treatment time takes approximately 30 minutes to an hour and whilst not painful, it can be slightly uncomfortable with minimal downtime. A little bruising and swelling may occur but it will be short lived and should settle within 24 hours, the skin will become more radiant, hydrated, nourished and firmer with an improved texture. There are significant benefits to Mesotherapy. It can instantly improve dull, tired looking skin and superficial wrinkles but can also improve sluggish blood circulation aiding the body to flush out ageing toxins. This treatment can also be used to address pigmentation problems and acne scarring. I recently treated a client who had blocked pores and pigmentation around the face area. Her skin was dry, dull, puffy and lines appearing. On having the first treatment my client described her initial experience as uncomfortable but manageable and said it felt
like scratches across her face. She told me she felt the needle going in and out very quickly (it is a shallow needle) and whilst the needle was going in and out, she felt me moving it across her face almost breaking a layer of the skin which would then help rejuvenation of the skin combined with vitamins. The client said she could also feel the vitamins dripping down the surface of her skin on her face during the treatment and said she found this quite refreshing! Our client had this to say after her first treatment: “I have to admit I left the salon with what looked like cat scratches across my face but after the redness dissipated and my skin was back to normal it felt instantly plumped up, fresh, clean and new looking! “The treatment worked amazingly to reduce the finer lines around my eyes. After a couple of treatments my skin felt and looked hydrated and dewy, the scarring looked minimal too. “I would definitely have this treatment done again and again as the recovery time is minimal and it was almost pain free and
effects were almost instant.” Our customers are really our best advertisers. If you want to see results for yourselves then why not book a free no obligation consultation at our Salon. We now provide a variety of mesotherapy combination treatments that can aid skin rejuvenation, boost elasticity and improve complexion and radiance. From the specialist peel that cleanses and exfoliates the skin, to Mesotherapy that can reduce the appearance of scars, pigmentation and lines, you’ll love whichever treatment you choose. iPhone or Phone…? It’s that time of year where new phones are being released and being in the market for an upgrade, I’m seriously considering jumping ship from Apple to Android. After many years as a loyal iPhone user, I find myself more and more drawn to the what the android market has to offer! With more free apps available on the android market, expandable storage and a variety of different handsets to choose from I’m looking at the highest rated handsets Apple and Android have to offer. Functionality is important but for me the ability to take good pictures, videos and easily edit and share them is essential. In the last few weeks Apple have unveiled the much-anticipated iPhone 11, Pro and Pro Max. Hefty price tag aside, will it measure up to (in my opinion) it’s Android rival?! Despite the controversy surrounding Chinese tech company Huawei the P30 Pro really packs in impressive features. Both handsets have a premium look and feel and well over £700, where photo and video quality are paramount which is a better investment and likely to perform longer. First up is Apple iPhone 11, Pro and Pro Max, whilst the Pro series isn’t technically superior to the iPhone 11 the Pro series have the triple rear camera with night mode. Apple have stepped up their computational photography and video capabilities hugely and have set a new benchmark in low-light photography. Other improvements include smart HDR tech that uses artificial intelligence to create shading and texture depending on the scene and lighting in the foreground/ background. All three of the iPhone 11 Pro’s rear cameras can capture video’s in 4K at 60 frames per-second, and now the frontfacing camera can also capture slow motion images and dramatic “slofies”.
All these features are only available in the 5.8” Pro and 6.5” Pro Max variant. The slightly cheaper 6.1” iPhone 11 drops the telephoto lens but is still is able to capture the same quality.
• Triple Camera with night mode • iPhone 11 is much cheaper than when XS was launched • A13 CPU – fastest speed around • Improved battery life • Faster charging
• Still an LCD display • Glass back attracts smudges and fingerprints
Like Apple’s offering, devices that run on Android are never far behind. Samsung arguably has always led the way but recently I feel Huawei’s P30 Pro has taken the top spot. Coming with Leica’s quadcamera system this phone has one of the best zooms and 4K video quality available on any device. The three cameras on the back are a main 40-megapixel with an f/1.6 lens and an RYYB pixel configuration than the normal RGB. Second is an ultrawide 20-megapixel unit and the third is an 8-megapixel telephoto periscope design lens for incredible zooming. It can
capture images in extremely low light by stacking several images in low exposure for a longer duration. Daytime shooting is at its best and scenes with mixed lighting and textures are handled masterfully. The clever AI system also recognises the subject you are shooting, for example, a flower close-up, the camera will automatically adjust the mode to portrait and boost up the saturation to give the best shot. Deciding which device to select would be much simpler if Apple’s iOS was available on other handsets, however, this would contradict the exclusivity and brand identity Apple has cultivated over the years. Making the move to another way of doing things on android that bit more challenging. They say, ‘don’t knock it till you try it’ and the time may have come to dip my toes into the vast array of opportunities the P30 Pro has to offer. If you have made a similar switch or have either of the phones let me know your thoughts, challenges and recommendations on saba@asiansunday. co.uk

How Bradford Celebrates Diwali Diwali, the “festival of lights” also known as Deepavali is one of the grandest festivals of India.
Mr Joshi hopes the occasion will reinforce the coming together of communities and to live in peace.
Diwali is an occasion of Joy, prosperity, wealth, Knowledge and brightness.
Vipin Joshi, who is a Bradford entrepreneur and is a board member for Better Start Bradford, said for him Diwali is a time to get together with family, do prayers, light fireworks.
It is a significant festival for Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, and Jains, and its significance stems back to Hindu mythology, which dates back thousands of years. This year it will be celebrated from Sunday 27 October. We spoke to local residents in Bradford to find out how they would be celebrating the special occasion. Manoj Joshi who is a district governor of the Bradford Rotary Club told Asian Sunday that for him Diwali is a joyful occasion.
It’s a very important and major day of the year for him and his family. He and his family will spend the day visiting the Hindu temple on Leeds road and spending time in each other’s company. Bobby Patel of the award winning Prashad told us he hopes to take day off on Diwali and visit the Hindu temple on Leeds road. He will eat prasad (a religious food offering).
He said he will be lighting candles to signify enlightenment and the victory of good over evil.
The family will make Rangoli patterns and visit local family wishing all a happy Diwali.
He hopes to celebrate by sharing food, sweets and wearing new clothes.
Here at Asian Sunday we would like to wish all our readers a very Happy Diwali.

Another Brand Name Bites the Dust So, this week we have learnt that Thomas Cook has gone into compulsory liquidation, and an official received has been instructed to handle the affairs of the company.
methods, which will better protect you in the event that it happens to you, most notebly the two main methods are paying with a credit card, and taking out insurance.
The company started its routes in 1821, so it is sad to see what is a household name disappear from the high street. It is sad to see that many people will lose their deposits, future holidays booked with the retailer, as well as monies paid for flights. Many people have been stranded abroad and the Civil Aviation Authority is aiming to bring circa 600,000 people back home.
In terms of credit cards most people do not use these necessary evils to pay for holidays. This is because most operators will charge circa 2.5% surcharge as they have to pay commission/fees to the card company. My thoughts are that paying a minimum of ÂŁ100 on credit card can save you a lot of headache. This is because you are protected by section 75, which covers you for breach of contract, as well as misrepresentation.
Many people have been asking how can you ensure that you are protected, and not affected if something similar happens again to a tour operator. Well there are a few
In order to raise a claim you first need to attempt to get a refund from the retailer. In the event that this is not possible, then you can start a section 75 claim, even if you no longer have
an active credit card account that you used to pay in the first instance.
and usually one that covers multiple destinations.
Section 75 covers “consequential losses, as well as the cost of what you bought. This covers any costs caused by the problem with your purchase, such as. If you buy tickets, and your flight is cancelled, then you might be able to claim train costs to airport etc.
Overall, although I feel sorry for people that have been impacted by Thomas Cook going into liquidation, for those that paid by credit card
The second option is travel insurance. This is usually offered for by most providers, but I would always opt for an independent policy. Insurance is vital to cover you; however, please check the terms and conditions and make sure you are covered if you cannot travel in the event that your retailer goes into liquidation. In my opinion if you travel circa twice a year, then it is always best to go for a policy that covers you for the year,
or took insurance hopefully they can make a valid claim, and get back funds. For those that did not, unfortunately pending on the liquidation they may only get a few pence per pound they spend (if that).

The Boundary Disputes Protocol Pursuing boundary disputes through the courts can be a very costly and stressful exercise. The parties usually end up incurring legal costs disproportionate to the value of the land itself and often end up falling out irretrievably with their neighbour. In the view of this there is a protocol, known as “The Protocol for Disputes between Neighbours about the Location of their Boundary (The Boundary Disputes Protocol)”, which aims to resolve disputes in a more amicable manner. The Protocol is not new law and instead it has been written by senior members of the legal and surveying professions and is, for the moment, entirely voluntary. The Protocol applies to commercial and residential properties and its aim is to focus the parties’ minds on early and effective compromise by providing a structured process for dealing with disputes which includes: • Setting a timetable for exchange of information by the parties with a view to leading to discussions about settlement or an alternative method of resolution such as negotiation or mediation. • Where legal advisers are instructed in relation to the dispute, those advisers should consider whether further negotiations or mediation is appropriate and keep that under constant review. • Outlining the stages at which the parties should consider appointing an expert and in most cases it would be disproportionate for the parties to each instruct an expert and therefore it advocates
the appointment of a single joint expert. • Setting out a timetable for the instruction of an expert or experts and for the preparation of his or their reports. • Providing for a final consideration of whether the dispute is capable of being resolved and if not, whether an alternative form of dispute resolution should be adopted or proceedings issued. • Setting out how the parties should record any agreement reached. As the Protocol is not compulsory it does not at the same status as other protocols contained in the Civil Procedure Rules (the court procedural rules which govern civil cases) for certain types of disputes where the non-compliant party risks receiving costs penalties should the matter subsequently be litigated. Notwithstanding this, the Protocol is a welcome step in providing a process by which warring neighbours can save themselves unnecessary costs and upset in resolving boundary disputes whilst at the same time saving on valuable court resources. The introduction of the Protocol is part of a continuing effort by lawyers, judges and the government to encourage parties to engage with each other and attempt to resolve their disputes without having to go to court. If you are involved in any boundary dispute then Blacks Solicitors can assist. Please contact Luke Patel on 0113 227 9316 or email him at “LPatel@LawBlacks.com”.

Jalapeno Lime Chicken Enchiladas
Ingredients • 1 pound chicken breasts (2-3 breasts), pounded thin • 1 cup low sodium chicken broth • 1/2 Mexican squash (or regular), sliced and quartered (optional)* • Corn kernels from 1 ear of corn (about 1 cup) (optional)* • 1 red bell pepper, chopped (optional)* • 2 1/4 cups shredded Monterrey Jack cheese, divided • 3/4 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese • 8-10 flour tortillas Jalapeno Lime Sauce
Me od
Easily cook and shred chicken: Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken and cook 3-5 minutes, or until golden brown on one side. Flip chicken and add 1 cup chicken broth. Cover and reduce heat to medium and simmer 10 minutes, then flip chicken over and continue to cook 5-10 minutes or until chicken is cooked though and tender enough to shred. Remove chicken from skillet and let rest 5 minutes before shredding (or dicing if preferred). Discard any extra broth from skillet (if there is any). Jalapeno Lime Sauce: Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan, melt butter in olive oil over medium heat. Add jalapeno and cook for 2 minutes. Sprinkle in flour and cook for 3 minutes (it will be thick).. Reduce heat to low and slowly whisk in can of chicken broth until smooth followed by spices. Bring to a boil and simmer until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and stir in lime juice and sour cream. Filling: To the same skillet you cooked your chicken, heat 1 teaspoon olive oil over medium high heat. Add squash, corn and red bell pepper and saute for 1-2 minutes. Turn off
heat and stir in shredded chicken, 3 tablespoons Jalapeno Lime Sauce and 1 1/2 cups Monterey Jack Cheese. Assemble: Preheat oven to 350F degrees. Spread 1/4 cup Jalapeno Lime Sauce on the bottom of a lightly greased 9x13 baking dish (layer will be very thin). Add the enchilada filling to the center of each tortilla and roll them tightly, then line them in the dish. for this event, before returning to boxing for a mega money rematch with Deontay Wilder next year.
Tyson Fury has been partying with fellow WWE star Floyd Mayweather and boxer Joseph Parker in Las Vegas.
“Expect fireworks,” he said of his WWE appearance.
By AYYAZ MALIK
The GipsyKing, who is preparing for his professional wrestling debut, posted a picture of himself and his fellow fighters on Instagram from JEWEL nightclub in ‘Sin City’. Fury later uploaded a video of himself about to board a private jet as he continues to enjoy a life of luxury in his current position. He narrated over the clip: ”It’s late night, Wednesday night. “I can think of worse ways to travel than this little beauty. “Life is hard and it’s getting even harder! Tired as a dog, but we must continue to move forward in a positive manner. Peace out.” Fury recently announced he would be taking on Braun Strowman at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia on October 31. He follows in Mayweather’s footsteps and it has reported that he’ll be making multimillions just
“I was born to do this, I’m a natural entertainer as you’ve seen in boxing and now I’m going into the real entertainment.” And WWE legend Triple H said Fury had taken to professional wrestling like a duck to water since he began turning up at the performance centre in Florida. “His footwork and mannerisms are all there, the athleticism of what he does as a combat athlete is there and then some. “Is there a better showman on the planet than Tyson Fury? He was born to do this and has been on the [WWE] radar for a long time.”

Deontay Wilder backs Andy Ruiz Jr to retain his belts in his rematch with Anthony Joshua By AYYAZ MALIK
ayyaz@asiansunday.co.uk Mexican-American boxer Any Ruiz Jr, is set to put his WBA ‘Super’, IBF, and WBO world titles on the line against Joshua in Saudi Arabia in a lucrative heavyweight rematch of their June fight. Ahead of the bout, Ruiz displayed his drastically slimmer physique on social media, warning the Joshua he would be ‘lighter, faster and more powerful’ for their second fight. With just under eight weeks to go until the bout, WBC champion Wilder has identified a number of similar traits between the 30-year-old and himself. And he believes history will repeat itself, with Ruiz leaving with the belts once again. On being asked by Sky Sports if he is backing Ruiz Jr, Wilder said: “I am. Ruiz Jr has all the motivation and confidence that he needs from the first fight. “I don’t think he is one to dwell after obtaining a little taste of success. This is just the beginning, especially when you become a champion. “You’ve got to stay hungry. My man Marvin Hagler
said you can’t get out of bed in silk pyjamas, but with the win, it was a big boost, and he has the Mexican people around him.” Ruiz has used his newfound fame and fortune to motivate him thus far, despite suggestions his lavish lifestyle could affect his performances. He even went as far as to suggest AJ was taking cereal from his children’s mouths as a metaphor to signify his hunger for the rematch. And Wilder welcomed the possibility of fighting the winner, although he admitted he would rather Ruiz came through. “The Ruiz Jr fight is even huger,” he said. “Whoever wins is going to be a big fight. “But the biggest fight is me and Ruiz Jr because of his Hispanic background, and he’s American, so he has both sides. “Becoming the first Mexican heavyweight champion is huge because they’ve never had that before. A lot of people who weren’t alert on him, they are now. “It’s bigger than what Joshu a could ever be.”

BMW PGA Tournament Encourages participation from the South Asian community By JAS ATHWAL Yorkshireman Danny Willett triumphed at the recent BMW PGA tournament. He has indeed made a victorious comeback after the falling to world no.462 at Wentworth last year, as he struggled with his form and fitness. Willet has shown he is now back to his old best with a nerveless three-shot win over world No.6 Jon Rahm. The 31-year-old said: “Winning on British soil for the first time after I’ve been to so many dark places in the past few years is one of those
fairytale stories you never expect to come true,” Willet is now back up to world No.31. It was also refreshing to see more players of South Asian origin participate. There was India’s Shubhankar Sharma, who finished at 17th position in the BMW PGA tournament and our very own Wolverhampton based Arron Rai who settled at no.26 position in the tournament. Figures indicate that the fastest growth of participation seems to come from the South Asian
community. It was encouraging to see so many South Asian faces spectating as well as seeing the players play really well and be quite high up in the money stakes. This definitely is a positive because if we continue to see good role models like Arron and Sharma there’s hope to see more South Asians getting involved in golf.

Signs of Weakness from Premier Leagues Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs & Man Utd By AYYAZ MALIK
ayyaz@asiansunday.co.uk
Four of Premier Leagues top six clubs have shown significant weakness so far this season. Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and Manchester United all seem to be have shown their lowest performance since the games began this season. An embarrassing 49 points have been scored between them for their first eight games, which is the lowest between them since the first Premier League campaign in 1992 and far fewer than in recent seasons. So, what is going wrong? Let’s try and have a look and see what could be causing the clubs to slip.
Manchester United
Argentine.
The club has taken their lowest tally since 1989, with only nine points from their first eight games. Despite having the fifth most shots in the league, the strength of delivering those shots is most definitely a cause for concern.
Arsenal
According to expected goals, only Newcastle have had worse shots on average than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s young side, outside of penalties. Manchester United most certainly seem to be struggling to create good chances for themselves. One positive for United fans though, is that while the attack is struggling to create good chances, the defence has restricted the opposition’s opportunities, making it one of the best defences at this early stage. After spending £130m on defenders Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka and selling striker Romelu Lukaku over the summer, this is perhaps no real surprise. Tottenham Now with Tottenham they seem to have gone reverse. From being third in last season’s Premier League and just five points behind leaders Liverpool to just 22 points from 20 games since. The club are certainly under pressure from all sides, which has resulted in reports of some looking to move to other clubs. The difficulty for Tottenham is that it’s not one specific area of the team that is the problem. As well as the players not pressing like before, their recent performance shows that both the defence and the attack so far are as bad as they’ve been at this stage in the six seasons under Mauricio Pochettino. While it is impossible to know for sure, this could be down to the fact the manager and players have been together for an unusually long time. Eight players are still at the club from Pochettino’s first season in 2014-15 - compared to just three at Manchester City and two at Liverpool - while of the 32 managers in the Champions League this season, only Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone has been at his club longer than his fellow
Now you may be wondering why Arsenal are in this list, when they are currently third in the table. Well if you look closely a goal difference of +2 suggests that all is not as comfortable as it seems, with no team having sat as high in the table with so low a figure at this stage since Phil Brown’s Hull City did so with a goal difference of zero in 2008. After allowing 10-12 shots per game in each of the club’s final 13 seasons under Arsene Wenger, they allowed just over 13 in their first campaign under Unai Emery last season. This season, however, Arsenal are currently allowing a remarkable 17 shots per game, with only promoted sides Aston Villa and Norwich having faced more shots than the Gunners this season. The one consolation for Arsenal fans is that while the team has been under heavy fire this season, they have managed to prevent the opposition from getting good shots away, with only Burnley allowing lower-quality Emery’s side chances than Emery’s side on on average. average. Even so, in the previous five seasons before this one, only three sides have allowed 17 Dyche’s or more shots per game - Sean Dyche’s Moyes’ relegated Burnley twice and David Moyes’ Sunderland side in 2016-17. Chelsea Chelsea’s youngest-ever starting Although Chelsea’s XI in a Premier League season has been praised by many, it has also conceded an uncharacteristic 14 goals in its eight games so far, with only Norwich, Watford and Southampton letting in more. It is only the second time in the Roman Abramovich era that the club have conceded double figures at this stage of club’s meltdown the season, after the club’s under Jose Mourinho saw them concede 17 goals in their first eight games in 2015.

Having saved just 48 per cent of the shots he’s faced this season, keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has the worst save percentage in the Premier League so far and takes some share of the responsibility for the club’s defensive woes. Of the 25 goalkeepers to have played this season, only Southampton’s Angus Gunn has conceded more goals than expected than the Chelsea keeper. The blame cannot be laid entirely at his door. Despite only Manchester City facing fewer shots so far this season, only four sides have allowed the opposition easier chances to score on average than Chelsea, so Frank Lampard will be hoping his youthful side can make Arrizabalaga’s job a little easier in future.
