OWBIZ IT’S A BABY BOY FOR MIRA AND SHAHID KAPOOR

Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor and his wife Mira Rajput Kapoor became parents again, as they welcomed their second child- a baby boy- on late Wednesday night. Mira gave birth to the baby at Mumbai’s Hinduja hospital. On April 20, Shahid and Mira took to Instagram to announce that they are expecting their second child. They posted a picture of their daughter Misha with ‘Big sister’ written in its backdrop. The couple tied the knots in 2015 and welcomed their first child, Misha, a year later in August.

been known as the ultimate power couple, they were looked up to even after their divorce for how peacefully they handled the split.

While speaking on her show ‘Celebrity -Divorce court’, she talked up about the legal battle between ‘Brangelina’, reported Page Six. “I used to use their divorce as, ‘This is how to get it done’,” she said.

The two had met on the sets of 2005 thriller ‘Mr and Mrs Smith’ and got married in 2014. It was in September 2016 when it was first revealed that the two had filed for a divorce. The allegations were against Brad’s mis-behaviour with their son Maddox.

Toler feels that celebrities are just like all of us and continued to talk about the once-in-love couple. “I hope they get back to where they were, because I loved using them as an example,” added the Divorce judge. It’s been two years since the custody battle for their kids started. The star couple has six kids together- Maddox (17), Pax (14), Zahara (13), Shiloh (12), and 10-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.

After a court judgment, Jolie allowed Pitt to visit their children for four hours on school days, and 12 hours on holidays. Earlier, Angelina alleged that ex-husband Brad Pitt has not paid any ‘meaningful’ child support since their split in 2016. She also accused Pitt of being a careless father. In his defence, the ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ star said that he filed for a loan of 8 million USD to help Angelina buy a house.

In an interview with Howard Stern, Osbourne called Cowell a “f**king pain in the arse” and claimed that Cowell will do “whatever” to get his “f****** fat face on the TV”, reports metro.co.uk. by FATIMA PATEL It is believed you auditioned for your role in the film Andhadhun. Tell us how the film came about for you? Yes, I did because it was so different for me and I wanted to do something different apart from the slice of life cinema, which was going pretty well in my favour. Then I got to know about this wonderful one liner about a blind pianist. And I texted Sri Ram sir and I met him and I was like why don’t you take a screen test and he was smiling and said OK that’s never happened with an established actor before, so I was like let’s do this tomorrow or whenever. So next day camera’s were ready we shot a couple of scenes and immediately

after that he was like, ok let’s do this. So, it was quiet exciting for me as well, because it happens in the west most of the time. They take screen tests and it should happen in Indian cinema as well.

No one expects me to do a thriller and it was such a unique casting for a Sri Ram Raghvan film, so it works for both the parties I guess. The very first visual we are given in the trailer, is of you hitting your face into water and we get to see your weak eye, which is very dramatic, but also very shocking for most of us, your fans who have this particular image of you. It’s quite impactful, as we’ve never seen you like that. Are you able to talk us through the shot, performing it and how you feel when you see yourself like that on screen? For me it’s a different role altogether right from the look, to the acting, to the script the direction everything is different. Each and every moment in the film has never happened with me before. You know the type of slice of life films that I do you can relate to the situation because they are all relatable films. This film is not relatable at all. It’s just like a crazy ride. So, it was so exciting and challenging at the same time. Sri ram is a very impromptu a very spontaneous director. He will not give you the script, he will give you the lines when you come on set, he will ask you to react to the situation. It’s very challenging. So, no rehearsals? The rehearsals we would do it on set. However, the workshops as far as the workshops are concerned it is all about learning and observing blind people. It’s all

about seeing how a blind musician plays. I went to a blind school in Mumbai especially a blind pianist in real and I saw him play the piano marking his position and how he approaches the keys and melody and I emulated him with expressions, so it was a great learning experience. Varun tweeted after watching the trailer: Rabbit ka bhi kaam sahih hai. – it’s of course quite unusual to see such depiction or moments in a Bollywood trailer. Are you able to tell us about the significance of the rabbit? Ya, he notices things which are very unusual in a trailer, that’s why he was very intrigued by that rabbit. In fact, he is very close to Sri ram sir, (they made Badlapur). He also knows the script and he when he meets me he asks me iska kiya hua, rabbit ka kya tha, iska kya hua. He also comes with those bizarre elements that Sriram puts in his films and he get’s really

excited like a school boy. So, it’s very good to have a chat with him.

film. Everyone’s opinion matters to him.

You said somewhere that you have to be a good actor or a spontaneous actor to work with Sriram Raghavan, tell us more about your working experience with Sriram.

And what was your first interaction on set with Tabu like?

As I said earlier, he is a very spontaneous director he comes with golden moments on set. I remember I had prepared a scene a particular way and he xxxx the entire scene and said let’s do this and I was shocked and surprised at the same time. I said I was prepared for this dialogue right and he said no, let’s do this first and then do that. So, it was back in a theatre workshop. So, you would improvise in a theatre workshop. The entire set is buzzing, it’s exciting, all the actors are on their toes. The best part about him, is he takes feedback from everyone. From the office boy to the top actor of the

I met her at the office of Sri ram sir. I have always been a fan of hers. She is from the nineties and she is so valuable and adaptable to cinema. She just handles gears like a pro. She can do a Haidar and a Golmaal, so she is very versatile You’ve always played a very real slice of life kind of characters. Can you ever see yourself in a Dabangg or Singham? I think that comes with age also at time. For example, Saif is a great example. I think he was a great chocolate boy for a long time and I think it wasn’t till his 40’s that he did an Omkara. So, I guess it comes with age and I would love to do a hard-core commercial action film, but I think I have more time for that.

for the body language an also getting the chords right, so it’s not that easy. If I did a concert What do you think has been the best lesson you have learned since joining the industry in 2012 that you would like to share with others? Final message would be You’re debut in Hindi films was with a very unconventional film, Vicky Donor which was a risk, that proved successful. This then followed with some not so successful films, such as Bewakoofiyan, Hawaizada and of course Meri Pyari Bindu. How did you deal with this phase considering you were still new in the industry? Success is a lousy teacher, but failure is laughter and kind. I have learnt a lot from these films. Life is all about evolving yourself as an artist and you will learn. It also gives you a certain perspective about the film industry and how the audience reacts. So, yes it makes it more routed as a person. You of course are a great singer and a musician who plays the guitar very well, you write poetry and now you have mastered the piano. Can we expect an Ayushmann concert like Farhan Akhtar anytime soon? I do rock concerts with my band, but I don’t normally play instruments as I have my band, musicians accompany me. I will try and do something with the piano, but I can play a decent amount for a cause, it’s a good idea though. What I have done in Andhhun is not easy, because I gave a lot of time

ASK AYESHA

Ever wondered about how to carry off the latest beauty trend of the season? Or what products to use to make those dark circles disappear? Well, help is finally here. Send in your queries to our resident hair and makeup specialist Ayesha Babar to ayeshababarmakeup@gmail.com, and we will get you your answers!

Dear Ayesha,

(Amna, London)

I have thick body hair in some areas, especially on my legs and have recently started getting really bad ingrown hair every time I shave. They start off as red bumps but often become very painful. I let them heal by themselves but the whole experience is still quite painful. (Amna, London)

A

A

First of all, if your nails, specifically your toe nails have gone quite yellow, you need to ensure that there isn’t a fungal infection at play.

the result of the body attacking this hair and the resulting cell debris. Ayesha Says: Dear Amna,

There seem to be a few things at play here. First of all, has the hair always been thick? Or is this a more recent thing? You might want to speak to your GP about getting a hormone test done, just to be on the safe side because thicker body hair can be a symptom of an underlying hormonal condition. Ingrown hair, or razor bumps as they are sometimes called, is something most women have to deal with. They basically occur when the hair follicle is either clogged or the hair instead of growing out of the skin, bends over and grows ‘under’ the skin. The redness and the pain is

Where ingrown hair is concerned, prevention is definitely better than cure. There are several ways in which you can minimise the risk of getting them. The day before you shave, exfoliate your skin thoroughly. It’s important to not do this just before you shave because exfoliation can leave the skin a little sensitive for a few hours and shaving sensitive skin is never a good idea. The exfoliation will help you get rid of dead, flaky skin, which can clog pores post shaving and lead to painful bumps. If possible, shave under a warm shower and use a shaving foam. This will open your pores and make the hair softer. Also, remember to try and use a fresh razor whenever possible and sanitize your razor in between uses to reduce the risk of any bacteria coming into contact with your skin.

If it is only slight discolouration, then that might be the result of you exposing your nails to harsh chemicals like detergents and dish washing liquids and/or a nutritional deficiency. Make sure you are always wearing gloves when handling any cleaning chemicals – the harsh ingredients in these can cause the nails to dry out which causes discolouration and brittleness. Try having as balanced a diet as possible. Include lots of proteins (high quality plant proteins if you are vegetarian) in your daily diet. You could also try a nail health supplement from your pharmacy as there are many options (e.g. Perfectil) that are easily available. Keep avoiding nail varnish or any other nail strengtheners till you have figured out what it is that is causing the discolouration.

Dear Ayesha, My nails have started becoming discoloured into a yellow tone. I have tried to leave them without any kind of nail varnish but the colour hasn’t really improved much. Any help would be appreciated.

Ayesha Says: Dear Ridhi,

Making the Most of

Summer in September by AYESHA BABAR

WE MAY BE APPROACHING THE LAST DAYS OF THE SUMMER (SADLY!) BUT THERE IS STILL TIME TO KEEP THE SUMMER LOVING GOING AT LEAST AS FAR AS OUR BEAUTY ROUTINE IS CONCERNED. THE DAYS ARE STILL LONG, SO GO AHEAD AND INDULGE IN SOME OF OUR FAVOURITE BEAUTY AND HAIR TRENDS THIS SEASON.

Colour, colour, colour: If there is one thing that makes makeup scream summer and longer days, it has to be colour, right? While some of our skin tones might not provide the ideal canvas for those yellow eyelids that we have been seeing lots of this summer, we can definitely try more subtle ways of adding colour. For example, try coloured mascara (Inglot and Marc Joacobs have some interesting options) or blue eyeliner to add some fun to your look.

20

Curly hair: Avoid those fancy straighteners as curly and wavy hair are totally in. If you are naturally blessed with curls, then this is the time to make mousse your best friend. Work the product through the lengths and use a diffuser if you are in a rush. Otherwise, if you have time on your side, air drying is the way to go.

www.asianstylemagazine.com | September 2018

Lower lashes: Want to instantly make your eyes pop? Lower lashes is your answer. We have all been obsessing over falsies for our top lashes for so long that our bottom lashes ought to be feeling quite left out. Well, now is the time to show them some love and be on trend at the same time. So go ahead, and coat those lower lashes with Maybelline’s Great Lash mascara (perfect bristles to coat without clumping!)

Brows: It’s time to say goodbye to those tweezers! Keep the brows fuller this season - that’s less pain at the salon for you as well as perfectly framed eyes. Fill in the gaps with Sleek’s brow kit and apply clear brow gel to seal the deal. If you suffer from sparse brows, apply a thin coat of castor oil (check amazon for good deals) on the brows before going to bed every night. You will start noticing a difference in a month.

Braids: Make your hair game stronger by adding braids to your hairstyle. Whether it is corn braids on one side, with the other in loose waves, accessorized crown braids or even the classic french braid, you can’t go wrong! Choose the style that suits your face shape the most and you are all set to get through these last few beautiful summer days, one braid at a time!

I think the biggest responsibility that comes with my part, is that because these are true characters and because this film is a true story in order to portray him as closest as possible, becomes the challenge.

What preparation did you undergo to portray such a formidable character? One is you have to read a lot about him. You need to get as much information about him as possible, also the back story of what he did, where he came from. So, he was a jatt, h trained under the British army, so he was strategically very very good. The way he thought. But

you saw not just a commando or a man who sat in his bunker, but that’s just the way it is and that’s the decorum that the army needs to follow, but he used to lead from the front. He would go there, and he would fight with his jawans, with his men shoulder to shoulder. He led from the front. There are a lot of leaders who give orders and just sit back. Having previously played governmental roles and army roles in films like Asambhav an Chakraview how did this acting experience help you for Paltan? Well it doesn’t. You have to unload everything you have learnt from your previous films when you go on to a new one, because that’s a new experience, so you cannot bring a hangover of another film on to any of your characters, so you come in with a clean slate. You’re working with a director like JP Dutta, who encourages you to submit himself to him. So, you’re a clean slate and now you kind of colour it in. Shooting a war film like Paltan, I can imagine can b emotionally and physically taxing, so what was a typical day like on set? It was lots of fun, there was nothing emotionally draining or physically taxing. Because the way I think the film was designed was very intelligently designed because we were shooting at such rugged terrain, where the oxygen levels are low, all of that you know. But I think the way the whole schedule was made we did not overstrain ourselves at any point in time because what would

26

happen then is that you would fall into trouble. There would be casualties and I don’t think you would get the optimum out of your work. So, we were very lucky to be a part of a film which knew the conditions we were working under and it did not strain us, where we would physically unnecessarily be exhausted and not be able to perform. It looks like this has paid of on screen. Your maternal grandfather was a brigadier and your paternal. So how was it growing up influenced by the army? Yes, it’s different, they are a different mind set of people. They are very disciplined people They are people who have very different qualities to civilians. They are patriotic, they are

loyal, they’re gentlemen and that’s I guess the upbringing I was getting. I was to grow up in a controlment area, so I grew up alongside a lot of army unit and disciplined people. So, my parent’s friends, er family friends that were there were many from the armed forces. It was wonderful to see when the family was together, how they used to bond and how they would be so closely knit. And to see a family without their husband who had been posted to a border or maybe where you could not take your families and I had met those kind of families as well. To say that how lonely inside it can also be. Is that what helped with your performance in Paltan too? I think you do grab from your memories, you put it out there. But because JP sir’s family is also connected to armed forces background he understands that really well as well and so you know it’s going to have a certain level of authenticity that maybe a person who does not come from an army background would not get or understand. On theme of war sometimes life can be like a war, such as the constant battle for success or triumphing over challenges. So, what is your key to success and how do you rise above failure. So personally, if you think you can rise above failure you’re never going to be successful. Because failures are your stepping stones to success. Everything what you fail at teaches you where you went wrong but that doesn’t mean your goal changes. You’re walking on the same path. So, it is something which you learn from, which helps you. So, for me success and failure is like husband and wife. I won’t say who is the husband and who is the wife, I might fall into trouble with that. The thing is they are like that, they go hand in hand, it’s a relationship. You can’t have one and not the other.

Volvo Cars’ New 360c Autonomous Concept: Reimaging the Work-Life Balance and The Future Of Cities

drive

Where would you live if you could commute each working day in an autonomous driving, fully functional, connected, comfortable, mobile office space? What if the service was provided via an on-demand subscription basis? Or what if it was provided by one employer yet not another – which company would you work for? This is a mere glimpse of a myriad of scenarios and questions raised by Volvo Cars’ new Volvo 360c concept, revealed as part of the company’s vision for the future of travel – autonomous, electric, connected and safe – and which may allow Volvo Cars to enter new growth markets. The concept environments reflect the potential for change in the fundamental structure of how people live, by transforming unproductive or boring travel time into useful and enjoyable minutes or hours on the road. “The 360c explores what becomes possible when we remove the human driver, using new freedoms in design and recapturing time – it’s a glimpse at how autonomous

technology will change the world as we know it. The possibilities are mindboggling,” said Mårten Levenstam, Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy at Volvo Cars. Fully autonomous and electric travel offers a range of advanced safety and environmental benefits, such as less pollution, less traffic congestion, and related health and lifestyle advantages for those living in cities. It also opens up possibilities for more residential freedom, reduced pressure on real estate pricing and more affordable home ownership. “People becoming less reliant on proximity to cities is just one example of the impact of removing the burden of unproductive travel time,” said Mårten Levenstam. “The 360c driving office makes it viable for people to live at greater distances from crowded cities and use their time both in a more pleasant and more effective way.” The 360c is based on a fully autonomous, electric car without a human driver. It reimagines how people travel, how they engage with friends, family and contacts, and how they can recapture time while travelling.

The concept presents four potential uses of autonomous driving vehicles – a sleeping environment, mobile office, living room and entertainment space – representing an attractive travel option that could rival air, bus and train providers, but with competitive advantages in comfort, convenience and privacy. With the 360c, Volvo Cars also explores opportunities to expand its business model beyond that of a traditional car manufacturer. The company anticipates strong customer interest from a range of different industries. One example of this is the 360c’s potential as a lucrative competitor to short-haul air travel, a multi-billion-dollar industry comprising airlines, aircraft makers and other service providers. The 360c sleeping environment enables first-class private cabin travel from door to door, without the inconvenience of airport security, queuing, and noisy and cramped airliners. “We regard the 360c as a conversation starter, with more ideas and answers to come as we learn more,” Mårten Levenstam said. “Yet we believe fully autonomous drive has the potential to fundamentally change our society in many ways. It will have a profound impact on how people travel, how we design our cities and how we use infrastructure. But we are just one of many stakeholders, so we expect and invite a broad discussion as society learns how to make the most of this revolutionary technology.”

Mascara: There’s a reason why these magical tubes come with ‘wands’! Possibly Britain’s favourite piece of makeup is a life saver to make your eyes look more opened up. The trick is to build it up, apply a layer or two, wait for thirty seconds and repeat.

Smokey eye: Yep, you read it right. A smokey eye is one of the most empowering things in the world and no, it does not have to take loads of time with building layers upon layers of eyeshadows. The popular opinion that smokey eyes are exclusively left for the evening is also a bit of myth – it is THE go-to look for the Duchesses of Cambridge, and she’s been rocking her smokey eye from morning engagements to movie premieres! Here’s how you can get yours in a couple of minutes: take your gel eyeliner or even a black eye pencil and apply a thick line starting as close to the upper lash line as possible. Next take a smudger brush and smudge upwards to create a super quick smokey eye. (quick tip: If you don’t have a smudger brush, use your ring finger to soften the edges!). You can use the same eye pencil to tightline your eyes to add intensity. And that’s your subtle smokey eye ready.

Eyebrows: Your eyebrows frame your face and if done properly can instantly make your face look more put together. Keeping a brow pencil with a spoolie brush on one end in your bag is a great idea (the Charlotte Tilbury one is a personal favourite!). For beginners pencils are the easiest to work with – remember: short strokes in the natural direction of your hair growth. If you are a brow pro, experiment with brow pomades.

Red Lipstick: Say hello to your one stop confidence booster. Choose a red that complements your skin tone and always keep it on you. A bold red lip, with lots of mascara, some concealer and foundation can be a head turning look by itself. Ideal for those meetings where you are the Boss Lady!

Highlighter: Highlighter can be your best friend if you give it the chance. It can uplift yout face from dull to healthy and glowing in an instant. Apply with a light hand to your brow bone, and to the top of your cheekbones. Don’t forget to run it down the centre of your face, on the nose, cupid’s bow and a dab on your chin. Gentle reminder: Dousing your face with highlighter might look great for an Instagram post, but is definitely not a good idea for the office. Remember: less is more.

Historic houses decorated with frescoes line the picturesque town squares as they do the ‘Weinmarkt’ square in the car-free old town. Lucerne is a city of town squares and churches. The Jesuit church dating from the 17th century is regarded as Switzerland’s first sacral Baroque building and the twin towers of the Hofkirche form an integral part of the townscape. The figure of a dying lion which was hewn from the face of rock in remembrance of the

heroic death of Swiss guards killed during an attack on the Tuileries in 1792 is one of the bestknown monuments in Switzerland. And with its 112-metre-long Bourbaki panorama, Lucerne possesses one of the world’s few maintained, mammoth circular paintings. Lucerne is the ideal starting point for many excursions to the highlights of central Switzerland. A trip up one of Lucerne’s regional mountains, the Pilatus or the Rigi – the queen of mountains – is a must. But excursions

up onto the Stanserhorn, the Bürgenstock or a steamship cruise on Lake Lucerne with its many bends and arms are certainly no less worthy. The Wilhelm Tell Express originates in Lucerne and ferries its passengers to the foot of the Gotthard pass via Lake Lucerne and then continues by rail into Ticino, south of the Alpine ridge. The cherry road leads from Lucerne through the landscape of cheery trees and kirsch. Above all the main attraction is the Lucerne
