Namaste England and the rest of the world! We've another gorgeous talent gracing the cover this month. This Kapoor is very much grounded and has a very strong feminist within him. Go check his exclusive interview on page 10. Of course with his film Namaste England releasing this issue would be a little lonesome if we didn't include his partner in crime and debut heroine Parineeti Chopra. She spills the beans on her equation with Arjun Kapoor on page 25. Also in this edition, we bring you exclusive coverage from the Brit Asia Music Awards 2018. The British Asian Music scene is still very alive and growing.

Well, one thing is for sure, (I know another cliche line..but) time is precious. Make a promise that before this year ends to try and tick off more things on your bucket list, put a smile on all the faces you meet and most importantly promise to make time and care of yourself. Until next month friends...namaste!

SHO ‘GULAB JAMUN’ TO GO ON FLOORS IN 2019 Those waiting to see Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan together on screen might not have to wait for too long despite reports that the film might be put on hold indefinitely. While the partner-filmmakers at Phantom Films announced the company’s dissolution over sexual harassment allegations were levelled against Vikas Bahl, a partner in the company. According to India Times an industry source on condition of anonymity says, “‘Gulab Jamun’ is definitely on. It seems likely that it will be backed by Reliance Entertainment and Madhu Mantena. The latter’s presence is still a little hazy right now, but a call will be taken in a month or so. It’s a matter of time before Aishwarya and Abhishek allocate dates. While the film could go on floors in January itself with other members of the cast, Abhishek and Aishwarya are required to shoot together in a start-to-finish schedule. For that, the couple is working on two sets of dates –either at the beginning of the year or around summer since the producers want to release the film in 2019 itself

OWBIZ DATING RUMOURS OF BRAD PITT AND BEAUTIFUL NEW CO-STAR SURFACE AS THEY ARE SEEN SHARING A COSY HUG Brad Pitt was spotted sharing a cosy hug with his attractive co-star Margaret Qualley during a break from filming on the set of their upcoming movie ‘Once Upon a Time.’ Brad Pitt, 54, has been in the middle of dating rumours lately and fans started speculating again after he was recently spotted hugging his pretty 23-year-old co-star Margaret Qualley while taking a break from filming their upcoming film Once Upon a Time (aka Once Upon a Time in Hollywood). The duo looked quite cosy with their arms around each other as Brad sported a yellow Hawaiian style shirt and shades. Of course, Brad and Margaret were likely just bonding to prep for a scene but now that the hunky actor is officially a single man and his exAngelina Jolie filed divorce papers, fans are eager to see him develop a new romantic interest.

SHAHRUKH KHAN AND GAURI KHAN PERFECT COUPLE. Superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s wife Gauri Khan turned a year older this month and King Khan showered plenty of affection on his lady love. Seems picture perfect na? Well in this picture perfect story there is a little balance of reality and yes just like in every normal relationship, even Gauri Khan has a few things to dislike about her superstar husband. In an old interview Gauri had opened up about her bond with her actor husband and the thing that she dislikes about him. The power couple whose love story is hidden from no one still look madly in love with each other and have completed 17 years of marriage. The couple who are parents to three kids Aryan Khan, Suhana Khan and AbRam Khan, have time and again raised the couple goals bar to another level. Talking about SRK she revealed that the thing that I dislike about him is that he spoils the kids as he lost his parents at a very tender age so therefore he wants to give them all the happiness. She further revealed that he thinks that his kids should get all the pampering that he didn’t get which results in me complaining in the end. Unlike, other Bollywood celeb couples this popular star couple has maintained a steady relationship which has only grown strong with time.

by FATIMA PATEL His Twitter account says his roles of a son, brother friend and actor are all work in progress. Well the Ishaqzaade actor has sure progressed since his debut in 2012 and now he is all set to re-ignite the success of his first film with his first co-star Parineeti Chopra in Namaste England. Asian Style Mag hung out with the Gunday star during filming of his next release in London. Here’s what the star had to say. Arjun, you began your career with Parineeti and you’re back with her after a six-year gap, that two with two back to back films. How do you rate her as an actress and co-star from when you worked with her in Ishaqzaade to working with her today? It doesn’t feel like six years, to be honest, it feels like yesterday because the memories are so

strongly etched in our heads and we’ve been in touch constantly ever since so it doesn’t feel like it has been that long. I hate rating somebody because, for me, she was tremendous in Ishaqzaade as it was a difficult role. Today, a film like Ishaqzaade would be easier for most people because they have a reference point. Parineeti was a 10 on 10 then as an actor for that film. I think there was no one better other than her for it. As an actor, she is improving of course, but for that movie I don’t think anybody else could have done what she did so it’s a bit of an irony for me to say that she has improved. I think for Namaste England she is also the right choice. She gets how to balance out the ambitious character that she is playing, with the humility of it. I can definitely see she is much more comfortable being a part of

the film industry and anyone who comes from outside needs a bit of time. We heard that there was a lot of ‘masti’ and ‘mazaak’ on set. Could you kindly share a few moments with us? With me and Parineeti, you just need to go to our social media handles to see the never-ending masti and mazaak on set (laughs). Parineeti and I have a friendship that allows us to be honest and blatant with each other. We fool around in the same fashion. If I must use the word ‘roasting’ each other (smiles). All that has been hinted so far, is that you play a farmer in the film. What more can you tell us about your role? Well my character Param has done his agricultural sciences, he is not your quintessential ‘Desi’ ‘Gabru’ or ‘Non-English speaking’

character, but that’s the perception the world would have of a guy who is a farmer. When you see him in the film and people realise that he’s a farmer by choice and he has done that to take care of his father, it should hopefully change or challenge that perception. Parineeti’s character Jasmeet is someone who gets married to Param early on in the film and she loves him for who he is. But she also has certain dreams and aspirations to fulfil and where life takes them is the main crux of the film. Having worked 18-hours a day to wrap up the Punjab schedule of the film, how did you cope with the hectic timings? That was not because of the hectictimings of the production, but it was due to certain circumstances that we needed to get back on-schedule we did it and it wasn’t that difficult, when you have a production that is so understanding.

you get your highs, you’ve got to be prepared for the lows. The good days follow the bad days, so you’ve got to keep your head down and work hard.

In general, we work about 12-14 hours, sometimes you work a little longer that to fulfil one or two days that you’ve lost out on and as an actor I get a big high by making sure we complete work on time. As a tribute to the entire film production, that we finish this film in a month’s advance and release it two months in advance. So, a film that was coming in December now releases in October, that’s a lot to do with the entire team. What has really kept you rooted and driven all these years? It’s not just one thing. I’ve grown up in this profession, so I have seen more lows than highs around my family and you realise that this is a very fickle profession. So, when

I have enough people around me to give me a reality check because as quickly as you get up there, the quicker you’ll get pulled down. You have got to be aware of whom you are working for and be connected with the audience. My sister, father and Aditya Chopra keep me grounded. The audience and fans keep you grounded because they’ll cut you down to size if they think you’re above and beyond, because you are not. You are there because of them. As bizarre as it sounds, it is actually that simple. You can make mistakes whilst trying to please them, but if you think that you don’t need them, then you’re in trouble. When you wake up in the morning, you should always keep them at the back of your mind with the choices you make.

ASK AYESHA

Our beauty expert, Ayesha Babar, answers your beauty related questions. Send yours in to ayesha@ asianstylemagazine.com .

A

I have very oily skin not just on my T zone but also around my nose, on my cheeks. Because of this, my makeup starts melting on my face a few hours after I apply it even during the winter. Do you have any tips for me to make my makeup stay?

To start with, you need to see if you are seeing hair loss on other areas of your body as well, like the eyebrows and on the head. If that is the case, then you need to go see your GP as soon as possible, who will recommend some tests to figure out what the underlying cause for the hair loss is. If your eyelashes are the only affected part, then it might be either due how you are removing your makeup or the products that you are using.

(Priya, London)

A

Ayesha Says: Dear Priya,

I would suggest you try and wash your face with water before using a wipe to soften and loosen the mascara. Our eye area is one of the most sensitive parts of our body and sometimes using a wipe, especially when trying to get rid of stubborn mascara can result in the lashes falling off.

I used to have the same issue myself!

There are a few things you can do to make your makeup stay put. For starters, treat your face like a canvas – the smoother and more prepped it is, the better things will look on top. Always cleanse your skin before you start. Even if you have washed your face in the morning already, make sure you use a wipe to get rid of any oil that may have built up. Next, ice your clean skin. This will make your pores tighter and almost acts like a toner. Moisturise your face with an oil-free lotion (creams might be too heavy for your skin). Do not skip the primer as it will be the key to making your foundation last longer. Choose a light to medium foundation and apply your foundation in layers if you want to build up coverage. Avoid using too many cream products on your face, opting for powder products instead. Once you are done with your makeup application, dab a layer of translucent powder

18

For the time being make sure you are using hypoallergenic mascara Clinique does a few good ones that you can try out. If you can, try avoiding mascara altogether on a daily basis. using a big fluffy brush, concentrating on your problem areas. Following these steps will not only stop your makeup from moving around on your face but it will also help you get rid of extra shine.

Dear Ayesha, I have noticed that most of the time when I wipe clean my mascara at the end of the day, I lose a couple of eyelashes. I initially would never pay too much attention to it but now my eyelashes have become visibly sparse. Please help! (Karishma, London) Ayesha Says: Dear Karishma,

www.asianstylemagazine.com | October 2018

Applying castor oil to your lashes before you go to sleep is also a good way of encouraging hair growth but make sure you use only the tiniest amount because you don’t want any oil going inside your eyes.

by ANUJ RADIA Parineeti, your last project Golmaal Again was one of the highest-grossing films of 2017. Did this success help you in gaining current and future projects? Yes. I had never explored big commercial projects before Golmaal. The success of that gave me the confidence and Namaste England is an extension of that decision. I’m very happy because these are the type of films which I enjoy doing the most.

would he describe you both as such? Honestly, I don’t know how people perceive it. There is a certain opinion they have that we’re always fighting (not in a negative way) or there’s this banter. They say ‘Tom and Jerry’ because we are always pulling each other’s legs and we never talk with love to each other and people see it in a certain way. That’s the only way we know how to talk to each other. That’s the friendship and relationship we have.

I also enjoy watch this style of cinema, so I’m very happy. You are working with Arjun Kapoor after a hiatus of 6 years what changes do you see in him (if any) as a co-star and as an actor? Arjun and I, as everyone knows, that we did Ishaqzaade together. That was the time when nobody knew him. But today when I work him, he’s a big star now everybody knows him and when we’re shooting people are screaming out his name. I almost feel like a proud mother even though I had no hands in the success of his career. But obviously because he’s such a close friend and I love him to bits, I feel so happy that he is doing well in life and doing such good films. As an actor, he’s only getting better day-by-day. His understanding of cinema helps him as an actor a lot. His understanding of films helps him to be a better team player. I learn every day from him. The Director of the film Vipul Shah called you both ‘Tom and Jerry’, what’s the story behind that? Tell us why

26

www.asianstylemagazine.com | October 2018

I think I can be myself and he can be himself when we’re together. That just results in a lot of leg pulling and fun. I would not have it any other way. If I had to put on a show about being a certain person in front of somebody I don’t think I would be friends with that person. I love it the way it is. It seems like you have a very comfortable rapport with Arjun? Oh absolutely! I have the most secure,

comfortable and inhibited relationship with him. I never have to think as a costar that I have to behave a certain way or have to be scared of speaking to him in a certain way. I never have to worry about him feeling bad about anything. I can just be myself. From the posters, it appears that you play a lady rooted in Punjabi tradition, named Jasmeet. Being Punjabi yourself, was it easy for you to adapt to the character? Yes, I am a Punjabi girl. I have seen a lot of the life of Jasmeet as well in my personal life, not saying I relate to it, but I’m aware of that world and milieu. Having said that, I totally relied on Vipul sir to characterise this film. I went with what his vision was and he used to tell me. Will the representations of Punjabis be

as flamboyant and caricature to what we have seen in the past? Not at all, that’s just not Vipul sir’s style. He makes larger-than-life and aspirational films, but he never makes them caricature. They are always real. There were situations in the film where we were aware about us being filmy, but when you watch the film, you won’t feel like “Oh, that typical Punjabi world”. I don’t think I would’ve been able to do it. As Namaste England’s tagline suggests, “London Jaana Hai Legal Illegal Sab Chalega.” Also, Immigration is a highly sensitive and serious subject in Britain. Does your role focus on the plight of female immigrants? My role and also of Arjun’s is about two people who are in love. Absolutely in love - and will go through different journeys

and to any lengths to be together. The ‘legal illegal’ is a part of our story, but I don’t want to say too much because that would really ruin the experience for you, but to answer the question in one word, it is No. So it is more focused on love? It focuses on the story of the characters Jasmeet and Param, is all I’m going to say. Let’s talk about your career. Your journey in films has seen some successes and some low phases, how do you manage to keep yourself motivate through the struggles and keep challenging yourself to do better? I really want to keep doing better and that’s what I keep focusing on. When I had 2/3 films that did not do well.

Kohl-rimmed eyes: If you have roots in South Asia, there is one beauty look that you are bound to have come across and tried at least once in your life – kohl rimmed eyes! The runways seem to have stumbled upon this too because as we saw at the Longchamp show during New York Fashion Week, there really is nothing more breathtaking than kohl-rimmed eyes.

www.asianstylemagazine.com | October 2018

Shine on: Glitter is back and how! There is glitter on the eyes, glitter on the lips and really honestly, everywhere in between. While designers like Halern went for chunky glitter all over the eyes, you can take things a little easier. Apply a black eyeshadow as a base on the lid and then add some jewel toned glitter on top in the middle of the lid with a dab of glitter glue, for a dazzling twist.

Power lips: Nude who? Bold lips took centre stage at some of the biggest shows this season. Reds, Oranges, glitter, burgundy, neon yellow – you name it and we saw it on the runways. Don’t be shy and add some colour to your face with a statement lip.

(Valentino)

(Jeremy Scott) Rose Tones: What is gold but better? Well, rose gold is! The colour that took the beauty world by storm is still a firm favourite. Try this universally flattering colour on your lids, face and lips and thank us later. P.S. Huda Beauty’s Rose Gold Remastered palette is a great place to start.

Icy tones: It’s not only your 8 year old niece who is obsessed with tones of Frozen’s icy blue. And daunting as it seems, there are lots of different ways you can add the cool colours to your eyes. A thin blue line on the upper lash line? Or a deeper blue on the lower lash line? Or bright blue mascara? Or maybe some blue eyeshadow smudged into the inner corner of your eyes a la Missoni? Well, the possibilities really are endless! (Missoni )

(Prada)

Lashes: We learnt that no amount of mascara is too much. And with party season just around the corner, it’s the one style you can opt for without going over the top with colour or glitter. So falsies or no falsies, load up on that mascara.

(Emilia Wickstead) Statement hair: Looking for ideas on how to wear your hair differently? Take some inspiration from the London Fashion Week’s runway where hair became the focus of a few different looks: While Victoria Beckham opted for a stark side part with gelled back hair for her tenth anniversary show, Royal favourite Emilia Wickstead showed off a high ponytail with a fun double bow.

Arresting Austria Bollywood films are well known for their picturesque locations and stunning visuals. We're so used to seeing the beautiful backdrop of Switzerland with our B-town hero and heroine dancing away to a romantic ballad and the added aesthetic of the colourfully draped sari that even our Bollywood producers are wanting to change the scene and bring somthing different to our big screen.

Continuing the romantic mood, we wanted to give a romantic flavour to this issues holiday destination so we took a trip to Austria, Innsbruck for our travel feature this edition. Innsbruck is also the place where ace Director Karan Johar’s team extensively shot in the beautiful capital of Tyrol for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Innsbruck is certainly a sight to behold. The jagged rock spires of the Nordkette range are so close that within minutes it’s possible to travel from the city’s heart to over 2000m above sea level and alpine pastures where cowbells chime. Summer and winter activities abound, and it’s understandable why some visitors only take a peek at Innsbruck properly before

ski jump with big mountain viewsmake a spectacular leap between the urban and the outdoors.

There are many amazing places to stay in Innsbruck, but if you want to follow where our B-Town star cast of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil stayed, then head down to the Adlers Design Hotel. Adlers Design Hotel, is one of the tallest hotels of Innsbruck, offering stunning panoramic views from all of their rooms, a rooftop spa, bar and restaurant. So if you want to sleep in the same bed as Ranbir Kapoor or want to feel like A-list star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan then a stay at this hotel will most certainly fulfill that. Prices

range from £120 to £199 per night. Innsbruck has so much to offer for Ski lovers, as well as history lovers. Innsbruck’s golden wonder and most distinctive landmark is the Goldenes Dachl Museumbuilt for Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I (1459–1519), lavishly festooned with murals and glittering with 2657 fire-gilt copper tiles. It is most impressive from the exterior, but the museum is worth a look – especially if you have the Innsbruck Card – with an audio guide whisking you through the history. Keep an eye out for the grotesque tournament helmets designed to resemble the Turks of the rival Ottoman Empire. The Nordkette cable cars really

impressed Karan Johar, that the Kabhi Kushi Khabi Gham Director even tweeted about his extraodinary experience. The cable cars take you directly from the Old Town city centre to 2000m in just 20 min. On this mountain you will find the nature park Karwendel, Austrias biggest nature park and maybe you can recall some of the mountain scenes you will see in the movie. You will see lots of the surrounding holiday villages, in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Many of the holiday villages are

naturally grown farmer villages on the sunny plateaus around Innsbruck and were used as locations for all of the nature and mountain scenes you will see in the movie. You should definitely visit the villages of Axams and Obsteig, or maybe even book your stay directly there to immerse yourself in the tranquill beauty of the Alps, the fresh air and pure water. So if you want to get a glimpse into the film location and make the same experiences as Karan, Anushka and Ranbir then do it as them and use every minute to explore more of Innsbruck, the Capital of the Alps and its surrounding holiday villages and its marvellous alpine, urban and imperial sights.
