Langham - a 100 knot Tibetan weave that is the result of many highly skilled crafts people. All processes in the construction of this rug is carried out by hand, from the carding and spinning of the yarn through the warping and knotting, to the finishing procedures of washing clipping and binding, not out of sentiment but because there is no better way of making a rug. The Langham rug has been crafted in this rich tradition to make a rug that is perfect for today and for the future.

All Katherine Carnaby collections come in a wide variety of sizes from stock, however we understand that not every project, home, or room fits the standard. For these special spaces and for those wanting something exclusively tailored we can offer a bespoke weaving solution in all our collections (excluding Vintage).
We will work with you to create that unique piece that fits your scheme perfectly, colours can be altered, specific sizes and special shapes such as runners, circles, squares, or ovals can easily be created.
Weaving of your unique custom rug will usually take between three and four months, prices will be confirmed at the point of order.
For larger scale, commercial projects such as show homes or hotels there are many techniques and materials to explore and our in-house design team has the experience and expertise to work with you to develop the perfect solution for your floor.

The essence of hand made
As with every handmade rug, each one has a unique variance in yarn, shade and even a subtle difference in design. Hand dyed yarn, due to the nature of the natural material, always takes the dye with slight variation of colour. This adds to the unique quality of each piece.
Hand Knotted rugs have a pile of individual threads knotted around the warp. The quality and price reflects the time taken to produce such a piece, the quality of the yarn and the complexity of the design.
Hand Woven rugs are produced on a variety of manually operated looms depending on the pile requirement. Ideal for plain cut pile or shaggy rugs.
Hand Tufted rugs have a pile surface formed from a tuft of yarn pushed through a preformed backing cloth. These yarns are fixed into place with latex and then covered with a plain fabric for a more attractive finish.
Power Loomed rugs are produced on a mechanised Wilton weaving loom, the decorative fringes of Vintage are sewn on after weaving
Carving Some of the ranges have the pile cut to accentuate the design or to give a textured relief effect - this is known as carving.

Care & Maintenance Marketing & sales support
Caring for your rug
To maintain the luxurious appearance of your rug, we advise regular vacuuming. This will help avoid dirt on the surface of the rug filtering down into the pile where it can build up and cause increased wear. For routine cleaning we recommend the use of a suction only type vacuum cleaner, those with a rotating brush can damage the pile surface. If your rug has overlocked edges refrain from running a vacuum cleaner over the edge as this can loosen fibres and cause them to unravel. If you wish to give a deeper clean to the whole rug, we recommend the use of a professional rug cleaning company such as www.servicemaster.co.uk who should use dry extraction methods.
Shedding and sprouting
All rugs will shed fibre. This will subside over time, depending on traffic, wear, and maintenance. Loose fibres or sprouts, are a normal part of the wearing in process with any handmade rug. These high fibres should be snipped off with a small pair of scissors. Do not pull these yarns as this can cause additional damage.
Stain Removal
If a spill does occur, remove as much moisture as quickly as you can. Blot up excess liquid with a white unbleached cloth or paper towel working from the outside in. Never rub a spill as this can spread the stain and can cause damage to the pile. A general guide to dealing with specific stains can be found at www.woolsafe.org/stain-wizard . Should a stain prove stubborn and difficult to remove, contact a professional carpet cleaning company.
Viscose Carpets
Viscose is a more delicate fibre than wool and is susceptible to staining. Water/ liquid spills change the texture of the viscose, causing the pile to reflect light differently to give the appearance of a stain. It is important to deal with any spills quickly, blot up any excess liquid using paper towels, do not rub or brush the pile. For all stains, we recommend you consult a professional carpet cleaning company straight away. They should recommend that the entire carpet, and not just the spill area is cleaned using a dry extraction rather than a wet cleaning method.
Fading and Wear
With natural yarns and dyes there is a good chance your rug will fade over time. However, it will be likely to fade faster in direct sunlight so in order to even out the effects, and to balance wear, we recommend you turn your rug every couple of months.
Underlay
We recommend the use of a non-slip underlay with your rug. This reduces the potential for trip hazards by minimising slippage. It also helps to avoid additional wear, provides heat insulation, improves sound dampening, and reduces any possibility of colour transfer from your rug to the floor surface beneath.
There is a range of high quality sample material available for qualifying stockists that includes a comprehensive product catalogue, compact display boxes and swatches that will enable customers to make an informed decision whilst selecting their rug.
For more substantive display requirements we have developed free standing product selectors that hold the full range and allow consumers to touch and feel finished rug samples. Bespoke display solutions can also be developed.
