The site for design of the 6-storey residential building is located in the center part of the city of Kazan. The site is characterized by its steep slope (elevation difference 3.5-6.5m) on the West side. The main volume of the building is positioned at an acute angle to the red line. On the 1st floor the designed house is aligned with existing houses of the street, with a break of its plan at 23 degrees, the first floor is recessed into the building’s body and forms a closed pedestrian zone along the street. A single-level underground parking for 40 cars is designed under the building. The roof is exploited with an observational terrace conveniently accessed from the elevator hall.

CONNECTIONS AT THREE DIFFERENT SCALES Connection at CITY SCALE. The concept of the project is to design stations, where different urban areas located in the opposite sides of the city correlate and create a connection with each other by identification of these stations executed in the same of material or in combination of different materials (such as: concrete, glass and concrete, brick cladding and more). The stations at the intersections of the BRT routes are designed in the materials corresponding to these directions. This will allow to simultaneously connect routes and ease the navigation, as well as, avoid a standardized project models in the city realm. STREET SCALE. A simple and universal shape of parallelepiped is chosen for the pavilion. It easily integrates into the street environment and does not take a lot of attention to itself.

The outline of the truncated triangles – the supports and the glass walls – is easily recognized from sidewalk. Interactive panels fixed on the inside of the pavilion curtain wall also work for the exterior by creating interactive connection with the street. The road-facing façade and the side façade of the pavilion use a light curtain wall structure and minimum cross-section bearing supports for a better overview of the arriving buses. TOUCH OR CONTACT SCALE or 50 CM. The public transportation structure carries excessive service and exploitation loads. For that reason, this station is designed in the “simple» materials without superfluous unnecessary details: concrete, as an outer undistinguished envelope, and wood, as environmentally clean and comfortable eco-filling.

sphere: RECONSTRUCTION status: REALIZATION name: RECONSTRUCTION OF RESIDENTIAL BUILDING architectural studio: STUDIO OF ISKANDAROV location: KAZAN, RUSSIA year: 2010-2012

The principle of so-called «Living» classical tradition was taken as the architectural concept that was embodied in the basic approach to the design problem. Such choice is explained by: the pleasant, human nature/scale and stylistic characteristics of other developments of this urban area, which were built mainly in 19301950s; secondly, a high architectural quality and good condition of the façade décor of the reconstructing volume. The above positions have caused a complete compositional and stylistic subordination of newly erected volumes to

the existing historical building. The building’s the main volume, where the composite accents were transferred - ionic pilaster composition, ornamental elements in the middle part of the facade. The preserved volume acts as an organic base of the updated composition of the new building. This approach, the total identity/ indistinguishability as a result of “new” and “old”, is a revival of the method for creating facade compositions when adding an extension to buildings, which was widely used in the 1930s50s, when the reconstructed volume was built.

sphere: TOWN PLANNING status: DIPLOMA DESIGN name: CONSEPT DESIGN PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT OF MULTIFUNCTIONAL RESIDENTIAL AREAS WITH DEVELOPING PUBLIC BUSINESS ZONE location: KAZAN, RUSSIA year: 2009

The project of a development of social and business center in the residential area “Radiant” it is a proposal to create a new “facade” of Kazan, which will define a new borders of the modern city. A new urban district “Radiant” is situated on one of the most important routes M7 Highway, which goes through the city of Kazan. It is a transcontinental corridor connecting Europe and Asia, a powerful axis that pierces through several countries. An important task of urban planning is representation of the city at its entrance approaching from the North. The project of the new district «Radiant» is not just a new cluster that expands the city. It is a self-sufficient element in the structure of agglomeration of Kazan city, as it contains all the necessary functions for a full human life. The most important issue of the project is not just providing housing to people, but also creating enough jobs, as well as, offering residents a wide variety of leisure and cultural activities. The main subject of the design for this project is selected the public and business, polyfunctional central part of the area, which will aim to solve the issues of representation of the city, creation of its face and image, and providing the residents with the high-qualitative socio-cultural environment. The main feature of the designed area should be considered not only its location on a major transport artery, but also its prime location in the picturesque natural landscape, which is distinguished by the differences of terrain altitudes and a dense forest. One of the goals of the designing the area is to preserve to the maximum the natural resources and beauty of the area.

street that starts at the Admiralty building. From the urban-planning point of view it is an important point for the city. The new building does not violate the regularity and severity of surrounding buildings. Given that, the surrounding environment is primarily a park, architecture becomes a sculptural object, following the classical principles of form-creation.

status: CONCEPT DESIGN name: MULTIFUNCTION BABY SHOPPING CENTER

ARCHITECTURE/ The solid volume of the building follows closely the borders of the site by parallelepipeds and two half-cylinders. The facade consists of vertical blinds/louvers, made of frosted glass and aluminum, overviewing which in perspective an image composed of a classical pattern arises. Entrances are marked by the openings, which resemble a patterned fabric curtain. The inner space is formed by a large atrium and the straight-through openings, which deliver light to the lower levels.

architectural studio: BERNASKONI location: SAINT-PETERSBURG, RUSSIA year: 2008 IDEA/ A sculpture, resembling the ancient Coliseum, occurs in the center of the Park. You could enter the sculpture and find yourself in a fairytale world. Externally, the Coliseum looks like a super contemporary building. Anyways, the new functions of this place must be packed into a geometrical volume, easily blending in with the park environment and locking the end of the

STRUCTURE/ The load bearing structure - is reinforced concrete. The column grid follows the grid of the underground parking. The metal trusses, spanning over the atrium, covered with reflective plates. The outer skin is composed by the facade glazing system and mounted vertical blinds/louvers.

The autonomous house sugarhome is located on the open territory, in the middle climatic zone (with a temperate climate), where the average wind speed never riches below 3 m/sec. Living area is 112 sq.m. The House does not leave a footprint on the green space, as the volume of the building is elevated from the ground level, thereby it does not harm the environment. The main source of power generation for sugarhome is wind turbines. The house is environmentally safe, because it composed of natural materials. It has the autonomous water supply, due to a well, a local sewage/drainage system, bio-toilet and an autonomous heating system for the winter. The house is difficult to break in by strangers, because the sliding hatch at a height of 2700 mm securely shuts the entrance. The house is suitable for a small, economical, friendly family (4 people), which loves to gather near the fire in the evenings, listening to the crickets and swinging in hammocks hooked under the house.
