RE- E NVISIONING C A I R O ’ S DOWNTOWN
+01 Design Studio 7 Individual work Supervisor: Hussam Salama After the majority of governmental institutions are planned to migrate to the New Capital, leaving their buildings in Downtown abandoned, therefore Downtown became less vibrant. The target of the studio was to find solutions/ proposals to re-envision Cairo’s Downtown creating new catalysts and attraction points as agents of change. Through capitalizing on the rich assets of the site, a proposal was developed to revitalize the individual chosen plot of Azbakeya park. The project in volved the urban scale through renovating the park’s fence and the front pedestrian street. While the Architectural scale involved adaptive reuse of the heritage building Grand Continental hotel and transforming it into an art complex that serves the theatre props
CURRENT SITUATION - REFERENCE ANALYSIS
Abandoned passageway between the park and the project's area with minimal interaction and flow
Informal commercial shops infront of Azbakeya Garden replacing the demolished historic ‘Grand Continental Hotel’ creating a void in the skyline
Ground floor +/- 0.00 Fenced green areas around the site are acting as rigid barriers therefore hindering chances of social interaction and minimizing quality leisure spaces for the vibrant center.

WALKING SHARM ELSHEIKH
+02 Design Studio 6 Group of 3 then individual Supervisor: Cornelia Redeker The design studio scope was developing proposals for the Salam street in -Na’ama BaySharm Elsheikh that is supposed to be transformed to a pedestrian street. The Challenge of the design was to find a solution to create a user engaging promenade of the ‘4.5 km strip’ that wisely uses the advantage of the strategic location of Sharm elsheikh as an international venue that attracts diverse cultures and backgrounds. The propsal developed involved creating a promenade between two prominent buildings in Sharm; the convention center and the heritage museum. Along this promenade are many nodes/ catalyst that foster the social cohesion and youth interaction

+03 Bachelor project Individual work Supervisor: Thomas Loeffler The design studio was based on a real open international
student compe-
tition (inspireli awards) to design the new czech republic embassy in Addis Ababa,Ethiopia. The core mission was to develop a functional, expressive and durable facility while reflecting the genius loci of the host country. Further, the architectural solution should provide safe and secure environments for staff and visitors of the complex he site of the new embassy premises is set to be in the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa in a prominent location . proximate to Bole international airport The competition program necessitated the design of the embassy complex must include the following structures: Official embassy building, residence, consular and visa office (in a separate
building),
apartment
building
for the embassy staff and a separate building for the local workforce
.
Regional context
Urban context
1. APPROACH I extension of south axe and generating an alley on site for separating official and residential functions
2. PROGRAM I functions are organized according to program requirements
3. ACCESSIBILITY I Site has two main access points; south and east with security porter›s lodge
4. ADAPTATION TO CONTEXT I long and narrow building forms ease natural ventilation, sloped roofs for shading and drainage protection

+04 Design studio 4 Individual work Supervisor: Ibrahim Samy The tower is a 47- floor high-rise which is unique to its site where its curvy, organic form expands views to the green river and to the landscape. It has 2 cores; the main core splits at the 40th floor to a smaller one as the mass floors cross section decreases, while the second core goes up to the 23rd floor holding almost half the tower. Moreover, the first 5 floors are mostly for public use and community services featuring gyms& spas, conference halls and meeting rooms while the other 41 floors are residential units. The form of the tower is inspired by phases of change that an expatriate goes through to change, decide and work in a new place as the tower is mainly residential for outcomers out of cairo
Concept and form generation :
The form was stiff and inflexible
The form was twisted remarking change
The form was twisted more and the rigid angles became more smooth
A part of the form was subtracted to be more open and inviting
“I was stand still in my place”
“ I have the urge to decide and change”
“ I am adapting to the new enviroment seeking change”
“I am becoming more interactive with my new environment”

Design studio 5 Group of 4 then individual Supervisor: Dunja Karcher The project core mission was to revitalize and solve the problems threatening the twin cities of portsaid-port fouad, starting with a site visit and then research and analysis phase for the cities .After the analysis conducted in team work, the strategy was to boost the deteriorating economy of the city through enhancing the unrecognized identity and culture by boosting the cultural areas and minimizing the social gap between the residents and creating points of attraction thus boosting the economy by working on both short and long terms for locals and tourists The group urban part was then followed by architectural proposal for each member

B M W E-CAR E X H I B I T I O N
Design studio III Group of 4 Supervisor: Thomas Loeffler The integrated project combining both the construction and design in one project aim was to design a technology center for E-cars in the New Capital city.where it contains spaces for the cars to be exhibited and get a full experience of the E-cars.The concept of the project was inspired from the form of the car to emphasise the speed and the movement. The challenge concerning the structure was the 45 meter cantilever facing the street to be stable without affecting the form. The building is divided into two the part sticking to the ground is mainly for the services, while the cantilever is the exhibition with platforms of different levels for users to have a promenade and journey inside the exhibition
FORM GENERATION
The form started with a simple rectangle
The form was inspired with the car profile abstraction
The form was made smoother to project a dynamic image
The form was made edgy and elevated reacting to its context and functions.

+07 Individual work Supervisor: Ibrahim Samy The course was divided on two semesters ; the aim was creating a whole working construction drawings package starting from the outer landscape of the building till the technical details of carpentry. The course tackled diverse scales , introduced the Egyptian building codes in the construction practice, helping in getting a holistic insight of how the real site works and the critical role of working drawings

URBAN APPLICATIONS USING GIS
+08 Software work Group of 3 Supervisor: Tarek Aboulseoud The project aim was analysing Neighbourhoods in New Cairo using GIS, and through given shapefiles and project data, we were able to create a geodatabase from scratch and relating it to the project data to produce maps using GIS that helps in analysing the chosen Neigbourhood urban fabric, landuses, building heights and conditions, the materiality and the high voltage risk assessment. The role performed involved being the team leader by creating the geodatabase, the feature classes and the sheet layout’s design to coordinate the work done by the group, modeling part of the data and finally creating some of the analyses maps
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND CONSIDERATION Asmaa Mohamed.2020
