The course set out to establish the foundation and sound understanding of the simple activity called Sketching. The program focused on providing good understanding of the subject and adequate practices for students to gain confidence as a practical ground for enjoyment. The entire course was devided into 3 sections called Conformity, Challenge and Creation. Conformity, the first section of the program, aims to provide base understanding on sketching starting with lectures, presentation and practices on Line Drawing and Mark Making. Challenge introduces to the class various aspects of sketching of objects and abstract creation within the classroom environments. And finally, Creation leads the class to the reality of outside life and world with a series of location sketchings.

R EAL LI FE EXPER I ENC E & L EARNING S ection III : C REATI ON It is said that, Traveler without observation is bird
without wings. The same is true to Sketching. In addition to its many other qualities, sketching provides automatic and unobstrusive observasional learning. As a result, sketching is the best way to learning of lives, environment, cultures, people and places, through observation and understangin, required by the every act and joy of doing it. And it is the most engaging activity in the building of memories and exprience. What any other acitivity or learning mode could it be that is more enjoyable and long lasting? It not only gives a sketcher wings but also an unending wind to carry such wings of freedom and inspiration.

location sketching Sketching visit to a community that was as old as Bangkok itself was both appropriate and rewarding. The community of just under a hundred households attached right behind the historical city wall that formed part of one of the only two fortresses left in Bangkok. Students were warmly welcomed by the community leader and were enthusiasticallly briefed on the community’s history as well as its recent struggle against the possible eviction by the concerned authority to turn the area into a city public park. This is an opportunity in learning, through sketching and inter-action, of past history and social implication in today’s city life of co-existance and tolerance.
