1.1 PROJECT INTRODUCTION The quaint town of Kuala Kangsar, with its own charm of beautiful colonial-style coffee shops and well-preserved pre-war architecture is home of an outstanding cross-cultural communities in Southeast Asia. The town is continually undergoing intensive revival as part of the process of maintaining its unique and historic character. This effort goes along with the state tourism’s drive in promoting places of interest and heritage culture. More works are required as steps towards an urban design development to enhance the image of the town. This involves significant upgrading efforts of the existing buildings, identification of the potential roads, streets, locations or sites for project development. The aim of the student’s project is to formulate proposals for new buildings or rehabilitations. Suitable sites will be investigated and properly determined in the area of Ipoh Old Town, which is within Kuala Kangsar Clock Tower and Sungai Perak. It should be seen as an idea contribution to the existing effort carried out by the Perak State taking into account the projects acting as impetus for the surrounding future development. The idea of Craft & Cuisine Hub should be designed in a way that it would reflect the rich historical and cultural identity of Kuala Kangsar, Perak. The concept should be further developed and explored to show the uniqueness of the hub and its site in blending the cultural and history in the urban area close to surrounding. The design should also address the unique relationship between the local community and incoming visitors.

Sungai perak as located at the centre of Kuala Kangsar , had been vitalising the life of everyone lives in Royal Town However , lack of planning and development had been deterioration the quality of local life and tourism industry along Sungai Perak. Hence , reviving the charm of river is the top objective in introducing brand new masterplan. The idea of scattering the development plan all over the proposed layout helps the leas the user flow from the west part of the city to the riverfront The masterplan includes the introduction of new pedestrian walkway that connects to the riverfront making it a sweet place to visit. The various facilities also establish a connection between the locals and the city , forming a lively community. Therefore , instead of setting tourism as the aim, the proposed masterplan , set the achieve unison between citizen and the build environment , which will the become the lively image that serve as the biggest charm of the era
design process 1. IDENTIFY ELEMENT ON SITE Identify the path , node , edges , landmark and the function of district
2. DETERMINE ISSUES WITHIN THE BOUNDARY Lack of pedestrian walkway deteriorate the user flow toward the waterfront
The walkway from bus station towards the waterfront is also obstruct by heavy traffic flow The area near waterfront need a surge "oxygen"
3.NODES
The waterfront is upgraded to attract users A sport complex is proposed near waterfront to further enhance the area's recreational quality Together with the existing node . creating an open community space.

4. RECONNECT
Connect the existing nodes , newly proposed nodes , and landmark with the comfortable covered walkway Reviving the waterfront as well as bring a dose of user to the food district and hotel district.

4.4 DESIGN APPROACH & STRATEGIES
DESIGN CONCEPT
URBAN CONCEPT
Concept based on the form of " Tengkolok Diraja" as Sultan Perak are the Pioneer of the used of Tengkolok during coronation ceremony. Thus Tengkolok was replaced as the Crown. Then this practically followed by the other Sultan after that . The project will create a new synergy in the Form of the Tengkolok slanted upward may be the best focal point for the design
city by integrating various seemingly opposing elements, and the Craft & Cuisine Hub will become a kind of landmark where
CONCEPTUAL SKETCH
the lines between private and public areas, as well as utilitarian and infrastructural elements, are blurred to create new recreational spaces and experiences. The objective is to create a stronger coherence between the life of the city and either planned or existing building structures. Public life is at the top of the agenda and great care is needed to accommodate the people using the cities.

4.5 DESIGN INTENTION & SITE RESPONSE DESIGN INTENTION Kuala Kangsar Craft & Cuisine Hub area design based on expression of Historical Ecotourism of Royal Town , Perak. The main design intention is to propose the building that become an attractive point or landmark to its district or surrounding.
The craft and Cuisine Hub carefully design to blend in with the existing site context , combination of the main three space in a direction and position to catch the prevailing wind and let pass through the interior courtyard through social area. Skylight roof with

the new contruction : net zero water building
NZW means using only as much water as falls on the site in question and eliminating all water quality impacts from the site, i.e., onsite treatment, eliminated runoff. On-site treatment is a decentralized method for recycling and purifying water for reuse. NZW creates a "water-neutral" building where the amount of alternative water used and water returned to the original water source is equal to the building's total water consumption. A net zero water building (constructed or renovated) is designed to: 1. Minimize total water consumption 2. Maximize alternative water sources 3. Minimize wastewater discharge from the building, and 4. Return water to the original water source

6.2 GBI AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATION building development
WHAT IS GBI ? The Green Building Index is an environmental rating system for buildings developed by PAM (Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia / Malaysian Institute of Architects) and ACEM (the Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia). The Green Building Index is Malaysia’s first comprehensive rating system for evaluating the environmental design and performance of Malaysian buildings based on the six (6) main criterias of Energy Efficiency, Indoor Environment Quality, Sustainable Site Planning & Management, Materials & Resources, Water Efficiency, and Innovation. The Green Building Index is developed specifically for the Malaysian tropical weather, environmental and developmental context, cultural and social needs.
