Student affairs awards of excellence

Nominations are now being accepted for the first annual Student Affairs Awards of Excellence this May. We encourage you to recognize the outstanding work of your peers. Grad Student of the Year New Professional of the Year Tone of C Award

Founder of espn: bill rasmussen Rutgers alum and creator of ESPN, Bill Rasmussen, will return to campus with the stories behind the founding of ESPN more than thirty years ago and how being an entrepreneur has shaped his life. This event is sponsored by the Rutgers University Programming Association (RUPA) and will take place on Wednesday, March 21st from 8:00pm-11:00pm at Livingston Hall in the Livingston Student Center.

UNDERSTANDING PERPETRATORS

Dr. David Lisak, an associate professor of psychology at the University of Massachusetts in Boston, conducts and supervises research on the causes and consequences of interpersonal violence. He will present on Wednesday, April 4th from 2:00pm-4:00pm at the Rutgers Student Center, Room 411, on the reality of the undetected rapists on campus and strategies for engaging bystanders, role models, and facilitators in the anti-sexual violence movement.

conference program proposals

Please come to the first installment of the conference program proposal series which will be a brown bag discussion run by Avani Rana and Anne Newman about the ins and outs of getting a conference program proposal accepted. The event will be taking place on Tuesday, April 17th from 12:30pm-2:00pm in the Rutgers Student Center Atrium Conference Room.


Social media and productivity tools The first edition of Social Media and Productivity Tools covered how to create a Facebook and Twitter account and their basic functions. This time, the focus will be on what you can do with them in your positions. How can you use them to market programs that you are offering? What are the best practices used by other institutions? We will dedicate an hour and fifteen minutes to each technology with a twenty minute intermission between sessions. During the intermission, we will have people on hand to assist anyone with account creation if they do not currently have an account. The workshop will take place on Tuesday, April 10th from 1:00pm-4:00pm in the Collaborative Learning Center in the Livingston Student Center. Ambassadors for commencement The Office of the Secretary is seeking volunteer Ambassadors for Commencement 2012, May 13th from 10:00am-2:30pm. Ambassadors receive a commencement t-shirt, a thank-you gift, entry into a volunteer raffle, parking at the stadium, a breakfast reception, and recognition on the jumbotron. The volunteer Ambassadors must attend two training sessions prior to commencement. Lunch will be provided for the first training session.

Departmental updates Dr. Greg Blimling, Vice President for Student Affairs, was selected as the Distinguished Leader in Education by the Graduate School of Education at Rutgers University. Peggy Policastro, MS, RD, Nutrition Specialist for Rutgers Dining Services, and faculty member of the Department of Nutritional Sciences, has been selected by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as the “Outstanding Dietetic Educator” of Area 7 which includes Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, and the American Overseas Dietetic Association. The purpose of the Outstanding Dietetic Educator Award program is to recognize the teaching, mentoring, and leadership activities of faculty and preceptors in accredited dietetics education programs. STUDENT AFFAIRS CONFERENCE PLANNING COMMITTEE Last year’s Rutgers University Student Affairs Conference was a success, and is now seeking members for the planning committee for 2012.
