Notekeu hockey starts new season
The Notekeu Hockey League opens its new 2017-2018 hockey season on November 10 featuring three exciting matchups. The season promises lots of drama and competitive sporting action. The Assiniboia Senior Rebels, the 2016-2017 season champions, are gunning to repeat their success, while other teams are vying to lift the cup as winners in their home arenas. The Assiniboia Senior Rebels kick off the season against the Coronach Merchants on home ice at the Assiniboia Civic Centre on November 10. The Mossbank Blades, which made it to the final last season, meets the Gravelbourg Hornets at home in Mossbank. Glentworth Thunder visits Rockglen to take on the Nitehawks. On November 11, the Nitehawks travel to Coronach to face the Merchants, the Senior Rebels visits the Thunder in Glentworth, while Mossbank heads to Gravelbourg to meet the Hornets. On the following weekend, seven teams take to the ice. Three matchups are featured on November 17: The Hodgeville Huskies play the Merchants in Coronach on November 17, the Assiniboia Senior Rebels travel to Mossbank to meet the Blades, and the Rockglen Nitehawks play at home to the Gravelbourg Hornets. On November 18, the Coronach Merchants play at home to the Assiniboia Senior Rebels, Glentworth Thunder travels to Gravelbourg to meet the Hornets, and the Hodgeville Huskies go to Mossbank to meet the Blades. On the last weekend of November, five matchups get underway. On November 24, Rockglen meets Assiniboia at the Civic Centre in Assiniboia, and Hodgville takes on Glentworth on home ice. The following day on November 25, Glentworth travels to Coronach to play the Merchants, Hodgeville travels to Gravelbourg to play the Hornets, while Rockglen visits the Mossbank Blades. December features senior hockey action right to the end of the year. On December 1, Gravelbourg heads to Assiniboia, Rockglen travels to Hodgeville and Coronach comes to Mossbank. On December 2, Assiniboia is in Glentworth, and Mossbank travels to Rockglen. The following weekend sees three days of hockey around the region. On December 8, Assiniboia hosts Mossbank, and Gravelbourg hosts Glentworth. On December 9, Gravelbourg meets the Merchants in Coronach, Assiniboia travels to Hodgeville, and Mossbank hosts Glentworth. Coronach meets the Huskies in Hodgeville on December 10. There are five matchups in mid-December. Glentworth hosts Coronach on December 15, while Mossbank heads to Gravelbourg and Hodgeville goes to Rockglen. On December 16, Gravelbourg travels to Hodgeville, and Assiniboia goes to Rockglen. On December 22, Coronach hosts Gravelbourg, Glentworth hosts Hodgeville, and Mossbank hosts Rockglen. On December 23, Rockglen is at Glentworth, and Coronach heads to Gravelbourg. The year ends with Gravelbourg visiting Assiniboia and Hodgeville traveling to Glentworth on December 29, and Hodgeville facing the Blades in Mossbank on December 30.

The Assiniboia Senior Rebels celebrate winning the league championship for 2016-2017. The team hopes to repeat their success in the new season.
Junior Rebels drop home game The Junior Rebels dropped a home game 7 to 1 to the Traveland RV Storm at the Assiniboia Civic Centre on November 3. The Rebels were outplayed and outshot 36 to 26 by the Storm which also capitalized on four power plays with goals. It was a rough-and-tumble match with 26 penalties handed out. The Storm scored three goals in the first period adding two more in the second before the Rebels put one in the net in the last minute of the second period with their only goal of the game. The first-placed Storm scored two more goals in the third to put the game out of reach for the home team. The Rebels outshot the Storm in the first period but the visitors put on the pressure over the next two periods. Cayden Price scored the lone goal for the Junior Rebels and was assisted by Bryce Hall. Tyler Hudson minded the net for the Rebels. Goals for the Storm came from Jarett Gerlach, who got a hat trick, Taylor Hoedel, who netted two, and Keagen Jacksteit and Ryatt Bayne scored one each. The Rebels occupy the middle of the table sitting in third spot with 10 games played, four wins and six losses.

Dakota Helland leads the team in scoring with 10 goals. Bryce Hall ranks in second with nine goals and he also leads the team in points with 11 assists. Trey Tendler, Tyde Hutchinson and Randy Stowe are all tied in third spot with five goals. Each of the team’s three goalies have seen action this season so far. Kade Smith and Tyler Hudson have each played five games and Cameron Lavoie has played one. The Rebels play at home next on November 12 against the Saskatoon Royals, then they go on the road for the next four games. The play the West Central Rage in Kerrobert on November 18, the Delisle Chiefs on November 19, Extreme Hockey Regina Capitals on November 21, and the Silver Foxes on November 25. They return to the Assiniboia Civic Centre on November 26 to play the Chiefs and on November 27 they play a game rescheduled from October against the Silver Foxes. They travel to play the Traveland Storm in Pilot Butte on November 29. In December, the Rebels play at home on December 2 against Fort Knox, on December 10 against the Rage, on December 13 against the Storm, and on December 20 against the Fort Knox.
