Gabriel Dumont Institute Training & Employment Inc. was established in 2006 to serve the Métis training and employment needs in Saskatchewan. GDI T & E falls under the parent umbrella organization, the Gabriel Dumont Institute of Native Studies and Applied Research. Selection Committee members should possess the following: ° Métis ancestry with solid knowledge of Métis history and culture; ° knowledge, skills, and expertise in the area of training & employment; ° solid knowledge of labour market and training trends within the area of impact and be reputable, with a solid history of community service. Priority will be given to someone living in one of the following Métis Regions: Western Region III, Eastern Region IIA and Eastern Region III. Members of the Southern Selection committee are responsible for allocating training funds based on established eligibility criteria and labour market information. Training will be provided to Selection Committee members and meetings will be held 7-8 times per year. Travel expenses are provided following GDI policies. Cribbage held in Glentworth Submitted by S. Falconer Several Glentworth Legion members were in Lafleche on January 20 to compete in the Zone Legion cribbage playoffs at the Club 50. There were members from Lafleche and Assiniboia participating. Ted Nagel of Mossbank was also in attendance and he won the singles. Allen Nelson and Wayne Barrett played in the doubles category. They placed second to Dave Klein and Irvin Tubbs but both groups advance to the districts. Elvin Mitchell, Clem Boisvert and Roy and Anne Burns took part in the team of four division. They will now participate in the Cribbage Districts at Neville on February 17. Pam and Kai Lee and family were in Assiniboia on January 13 to attend the100th birthday party of her grandmother, Isabelle O’Connor. The tea was held at St. George’s Parish Hall. Many family and friends came out for the special celebration. Heather Pleucks, Wendy Hiltz and their mother Marna Riopel were in Florida from December 28 to January 7. They stayed at the home of Carla & Terry Wolfe at Clearwater and enjoyed touring Orlando and Disneyworld. The weather was quite cool when they were there. Among those attending the Crop Production Show in Saskatoon in early January were Brian and Garth Taylor and Marty and Dianne Falconer. Stephen Wilson visited with his uncle Bill and Paddy Walker in Saskatoon and also attended the Crop Production Show. He drove on to Humboldt to attend an Organic Meeting. He was born and raised in the Fir Mountain area. The funeral mass was held at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Glentworth on January 19 with Father Joe Strohhofer officiating. McCord Hall continued their Friday night suppers on January 19 with a turkey supper with all the trimmings on January 19. There was a good crowd in attendance. Garth Flynn and Heather Pleucks were in Hawaii from January 8 to 19. They enjoyed Maui where they had a submarine ride. One morning,they were on a breakfast cruise for a whale watching excursion. They also visited the volcano. School Notes Mankota School welcomes Johan and Dave Wall to their classes. The boys and their parents, Peter and Agatha, have recently moved from Vanguard. The Mankota Grade 12 class is working on the Community Calendar. They are presently securing advertising sponsors. The Mankota Curling Club and Mr. Stan Scribner got the curling ice ready for the students. Mrs. Nancy Anthony is working with the students and plans to enter a rink in the sectional curling.
