Mankota students attend the Atamiskakewak Gathering Submitted by S. Falconer, Southline Last week, the Mankota students attended the Atamiskakewak National Gathering in Moose Jaw. The Grade 4 to 12 visited the Tipi Village, where they learned about First Nations Culture. It was an informative afternoon. Additionally, the Grade 9 to 12 went to see Robb Nash, who spoke of his experiences with depression and suicide after a tragic car accident, leaving him with a titanium plate in his head. Robb is a singer and motivational speaker. His message was about resilience and ‘hanging in there,’ telling his teen audience “pain doesn’t go away, but neither does the strength.” The students enjoyed his music and the powerful message he shared with them. Mankota School Notes Mankota Badminton players and coach Mr. Ron Ficzel attended the Section Playoffs in Gravelbourg. GSD Competitive Season a huge success Giselle’s Showtyme Dance Studio (GSD) started early and finished strong, performing during another successful competitive season. Part-time and full-time Dancers gave their all as they took the stage for the first time March 24 and 25 at the Just Dance Challenge in Moose Jaw at the Mae Wilson Theatre. Everyone had a blast, and left a positive footprint across the stage as they brought home many awards including 1 diamond, 23 elite gold and 42 gold. During the competition, four groups were selected for the encore presentation, and a proud moment was felt by all when two of them “Mirage” and “Maps” were from Giselle’s. These groups performed again at the end of the competition for an overall winning award with “Maps” winning the junior champion title. It was then off to Regina for this same group of dancers, and the opportunity to perform at the Dance Nation Festival on April 5, and the amazing stage in the
Riddell Centre at the University of Regina. GSD participated as one of 20 studios, and once again the group danced their hearts out and achieved an excellent showing of 6 gold with honours, 27 gold, and 35 silver. Then to cap off a busy schedule, full time dancers attended the Parkland Dance Festival in Yorkton April 20-22 as a grand finale to their competition season. Dancing against eleven strong studios, the GSD group received 9 gold with honours, 15 gold, and 9 silver. GSD Studio is very proud of all their dancers during the busy competition season.
