Worst road campaign to be held April 3-28 The 2017 CAA Saskatchewan Worst Roads campaign runs April 3 to 28. The CAA is inviting all vehicle drivers to vote for the worst roads travelled on by Saskatchewan drivers. New to this year’s campaign is the invitation to cyclists and pedestrians to voice their concerns and nominate roads they think are in most need of improvement or repair. These worst roads might have potholes or crumbling pavement, poor road signs, lack of cycling or walking infrastructure, or traffic congestion. Voting begins on Monday, April 3. In the 2016 CAA Saskatchewan Worst Roads campaign, a total of 4,298 votes were tabulated from April 8 to 29. Traditionally the worst roads are reported to have potholes, cracks, are in general disrepair, have no or poor signage, roads with little or no shoulder space or roads that are too narrow for motorists and cyclists to share safely. CAA Saskatchewan has as its mandate to work towards better roads and advocate for driver safety. After last year’s campaign, the top ten worst roads were (in order) Saskatchewan 354 by Dilke, Saskatchewan 51 to Kerrobert, Saskatchewan 322 to Silton, Saskatch-
ewan 220 to Strasbourg, Saskatchewan 376 to Maymont, Saskatchewan 47 to Springside, Saskatchewan 340 to Radisson, Saskatchewan 43 to Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan 155 to La Loche, and Pasture Road to Herschel. Two years ago, Saskatchewan 354 to Dilke was once again at the top of the list of worst roads followed by Saskatchewan 4 to Val Marie, Saskatchewan 322 to Silton, Saskatchewan 36 to Coronach, Saskatchewan 220 to Bulyea, Saskatchewan 43 to Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan 47 to Springside, Saskatchewan 27 to Vonda, Saskatchewan 18 to Fife Lake, and Saskatchewan 155 to La Loche. The $1.1 billion 201718 Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure budget will see work continue on major projects and 990 kilometres (km) of provincial highways across Saskatchewan over the coming year. This will include 150 km of rural highway upgrades such as Highway 4 south of Cadillac, Highway 51 near Kelfield, Highway 80 north of Esterhazy, and Highway 322 north of Silton. In total, the 990 km will include 150 km of rural highway upgrades, 300 km of repaving, 140 km of sealing and 400 km of other treatments.
