MENTAL HEALTH DAYS 2ND, 3RD, 4TH FEBRUARY 2019

The committee SCOPH organized the Mental Health Days event that took place at the Hotel of Monastir Center and that started on the 2nd of Feb 2019, with a pretty successful interactive session which had been planned and held by Seif Eddine Mrad, a resident in psychiatry, along with the National Public Health Officer .

The 2nd day was filled with a wide range of activities . These included simple yet efficient techniques of stress management , a talk about the suicide issue and ways of preventing it followed by a lunch break and a presentation about drug abuse and the likely comorbidity between substance use disorders and mental illnesses.

The speakers hosted in these different workshops and training sessions were three psychiatrists at the hospital of Fattouma Bourguiba Monastir. It was a somewhat busy and long day , but that day that ended so well, what’s a better ending than doing some Yoga ? The last day, the participants got to watch a great movie about mental health and have a very interesting debate with two experts in the field of psychiatry.

At the end of this hugely successful event, the participants weren’t only aware that nobody is immune to mental health problems, but learned skills to fight the stigma surrounding this topic and help people suffering from mental illnesses , people who feel trapped within the confines of the same problem over and over again , because that can be both soul-crushing and overwhelming.

DOCTORS GOT TALENT 27TH FEBRUARY 2019

SEASON FIVE OF THE FAMOUS DOCTORS GOT TALENT PREMIERED ON THE 29TH OF FEBRUARY 2019 AT THE CULTURAL COMPLEX IN MONASTIR.

Three Tunisian celebrities Rochdi Elgasmi , Nader Guirat and Joel Burtson came as judges.

The season had preliminary open call auditions in the Faculty of Medicine of Monastir. As in the past years , prospective contestants could also submit online auditions. Auditions were taped at the Hotel Monastir Center nearly a week before the finale. The final show featured the fourteen acts voted to the finals. Fourteen acts that included singing , stand-up comedy , dancing and poetry .

After the performances that all three judges praised - with Burtson describing some as "extraordinary" while dancer Rochdi ELgasmi said they were “beautiful”. It was time for our three guests to think and decide on the winner, but with that fateful decision in the hands of the judges, the audiance were left to speculate which finalist will emerge victorious and to relieve the tension bymaking ever-lasting memories. The incredible evening came to an end. Rahma Rhouma was named the winner of the DGT finale. This marks the first dancer to win. While the duo made of violinist Ghassen Bedoui along with singer Rabeb Mhalla and poet Nidal Nasser came respectively in second and third place

For most of the finalists though (if not all ), winning the competition wasn’t what they were looking for. They were there to prove that a doctor can be an artist. YES ! WE CAN BE BOTH. This is what a Tunisian medical student is capable of. We are hardworkers study-wise but even when we play ? We play it HARD !

YOU WHO LIVE FAR In the fight to make an unjust world more just a broken world more whole I promised myself I’ll be the change I want to see And I’ll take my pen in hand And wether I am on my native soil Or another distant land Wether in peace or in the midst of turmoil I’ll reach out to you my friend You who live far At the other end But I won’t come to your land For I fear people will misunderstand I fear they will think I’m there To terrorize the birds and the sand And balkanize you homeland To accuse me of things I never did I never planned So meet me halfway And we’ll go to another place

Another destination And I’ll tell you my name For mine isn’t a terrorist We’ll cross the frontiers I’ll tell you about my struggle My hopes and my fears And hey I’ll be all ears So u can tell me about your hopes and your fears In the fight to make An unjust world more just A broken heart more whole I promised myself I’ll be the change I want to see in the world And I’ll take my pen in hand And wether I'm on my native soil Or another distant land Wether in peace or in turmoil I’ll reach out to you my friend You who live far

At the other end And we’ll meet on Another distant shore Far from eyes that accuse From tongues that abuse From hands that bruise And all those who have issues Crimes and law and trial venues On another distant shore We”ll meet there Where nobody care If we’re Christians atheists or Jews Buddhists Muslims or Hindus We’ll meet there And I’ll tell you my story Since I was a kid I’ll tell you about the things I’ve been through And hey you tell me your story too! And don’t be shy if you wanna cry For I’ll bring with me tissue…
