Who is the Comforter

Who is the Comforter

Thinking men and women are asking this important question from all over the world. Could it be that the Honored Prophet Mohammed is the “Comforter” which it speaks about in the Injeel (Gospel) of the Bible Scriptures? Certain intelligent scholars in Islam seem to teach so. However is this what the Injeel says? We wish to explore this important question by going into the sources of the Injeel itself. Before we do this it is necessary and expedient that we spend time asking Allah for guidance in prayer (du’a) concerning this and every issue which has to do with our eternal salvation. Thus the reader is encouraged to send your prayer (du’a) to the Creator who knows the truth in every issue. Ibrahim was the intimate friend (Khalil) of Allah. Everyone who has a close friend will share what he knows to help his friend in a time of need. In the same way it is important to have Allah as a Khalil, a close friend to whom one can go for answers. To Him we can present our petitions without fear. Every honest heart who seeks guidance from Allah will never be turned away. Go dear reader, go to Allah, and present your requests in earnest. Most of the answers will be found in the Word (the Holy Books) which were sent down from Allah. That is one reason why they were given to mankind. To inform us of the will of Allah. Some may venture to ask, can we trust the Taurat (Books of Moses) and the Injeel (Gospel of Isa al-Masih) as the authority in any topic? We are told in the Honored Qur’an that the Taurat and Injeel were sent down from Allah, as a guide for mankind! Read Sura 3:3. Dear friend of Allah, never fear, the promise is that you will be guided aright! Trust Allah! 2.053 And remember We gave Moses the Scripture and the Criterion (Between right and wrong): There was a chance for you to be guided aright. Sura 2:53 Al-Baqara 003.003 It is He Who sent down to thee (step by step), in truth, the Book, confirming what went before it; and He sent down the Law (of Moses) and the Gospel (of Jesus) before this, as a guide to mankind, and He sent down the criterion (of judgment between right and wrong).Sura 3:3 Aal-E-Imran 021.048 In the past We granted to Moses (Taurat) and Aaron the criterion (for judgment), and a Light and a Message for those who would do right, Sura 21:48 Al-Anbiya From just these few texts of the Honored Qur’an and many more like them, we find that the Respected Prophet pointed toward these sources as light, as guidance, and as the criterion between right and wrong. Dear reader, we may safely turn to these sources for direction. Muslim scholars also feel the liberty to freely quote from these sources to try to say that the Respected Prophet Mohammed was indeed the ‘comforter’ promised by Isa al-Masih before He returned to heaven. But where is this recorded in the Injeel or the Taurat ? Before launching into this study we need to be earnest in prayer [du’a] for wisdom and discernment. Allah will give understanding if we in sincerity ask of it. (Injeel) James 1:5 ‘If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God [Allah], that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.’ That word upbraideth is seldom used these days, but it means that you will not be chided or reproved for asking. Allah is longing to help us but we need to ask. Scholars in Islam will quote from the Injeel and say that this is referring to the Prophet. John 14:16 which reads… ‘and I [Isa al-Masih] will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever.’ It is interesting that scholars will freely quote this text to say that this verse is referring to the Respected Prophet Mohammed. In order to get the full meaning of this subject we must also read the texts around this verse to get an answer as to who the ‘Comforter’ really is. You dear reader be the judge as to who is the Comforter based upon what is written in the Injeel. In John 14:16 it tells us that the “Comforter” would “abide with us forever.” If this is to refer to an abiding presence then this would not fit as we all know that the Respected Prophet Mohammed is not physically present! Every thinking Muslim knows that Mohammed like others died and was buried and is resting in his grave awaiting the resurrection. He is not with us today! This therefore could not be the Respected Prophet, as he is not abiding with us today.

The Real Comforter… Then it tells us in the very next verse who the comforter is… (Injeel) John 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. It calls the ‘Comforter’ the Spirit of Truth…in fact this spirit of truth would dwell in us! Here we see that the Comforter is the Spirit of Truth or the ‘Ruh’ of Allah. This Spirit or Ruh of Allah would be present with us forever. My dear reader, this Mohammed could never do! If we are yet in doubt as to who the ‘comforter’ is. We continue on to John 14:26 “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost [Ruh], whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” Here in unmistakable language the Injeel tells us that the ‘Comforter’ is the ‘Holy Spirit’ the Ruh of Allah! This is crystal clear from the Injeel! Here are ten distinct points as to who the Comforter is and what his functions are: (Injeel) John 14:16-26, 15:26, 16:7-14 #1. the Comforter is the Holy Ghost “Ruh” #2. the Comforter will teach you all things…can someone who is dead teach us all things? #3. the Comforter will bring all things to your remembrance. #4. the Comforter would teach what Isa al-Masih taught and testify of Him. #5. the Comforter would abide (dwell) in you and with you forever! #6. the Comforter reproves the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. #7 the Comforter cannot be seen nor known by the world. #8 the Comforter guides into all truth. #9 the Comforter will show you things to come. (He knows the future.) #10 the Comforter will glorify Christ! Dear friend in all ten of these points you be the judge, to see if this description from the Injeel fits the Respected Prophet. When Isa al-Masih was upon earth, He had much to say concerning the Holy Spirit or the Ruh of Allah, also known as the “Comforter”. In John 16 we read that Isa said the following: (Injeel) John 16:7 ‘Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.’

How long should they wait?

Isa al-Masih assured His followers that it was expedient (profitable or necessary) for Him to leave [this earth] so that He could send the “Comforter” from the Father. Now another question…were the followers of Isa al-Masih to wait for another 500 years to the time of Prophet Mohammed, until the ‘Comforter’ should arrive? Did not the followers of Isa need someone then and there to assist them in their trials which they were under? They were in dire need of someone who could be a comfort to them. If they were to wait until another 500 years, they would long be rotted in their graves, making the promise of Isa of none effect. But dear reader we know that the Comforter did come and He was sent down from Allah just as Isa al-Masih said He would. Not 500 years but 50 days… The account is written in the (Injeel) Acts chapter 2:1 ‘And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.’ It was 50 days after the Passover, (when Isa alMasih was crucified), then came the descent of the Holy Spirit (Ruh). Fifty days later, just the same amount of time when Allah’s children fled from Egypt, and were delivered through the Red Sea and escaped from Pharaoh’s army. They fled (Hijra) into Paran (Arabia). It was there in Arabia fifty days later that the Law (Ten Commandments of Allah) were given upon Mount Sinai. Just fifty days later! .

The Comforter’s arrival…

(Injeel) Acts 2:1-4 It continues…“And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost [Ruh of Allah], and began to speak with other tongues [languages], as the Spirit [Ruh] gave them utterance.” Dear friend, today Allah wants you to receive this precious gift from Heaven.
