About Us A Sweet Design was established in 2007 as a boutique cake and cupcake shop, located in the San Fernando Valley. A Sweet Design specializes in amazing flavor combinations and one-of a-kind designs. Every single order created is held to the highest standard using only top quality ingredients. Whether it’s a custom cake for the most important day of your life or a dozen cupcakes for a celebration, flavor and taste are just as important as design. Owner and lead decorators, Joeleen and Miguel Medina, are experts in their craft and create edible works of art for all occasions. In 2008, this husband and wife team gained the Small Business of the Year award by the United Chambers of Commerce. They have received notable recognition such as: appearing on TLC’s Fabulous Cakes and The Food Network’s Cupcake Wars, being voted #1 for “Best Wedding Cakes in LA” by LA Hotlist in 2014 and being featured on The Knot’s Best of Weddings 7 years in a row. In 2015, A Sweet Design was inducted into The Knot’s Hall of Fame.

Miguel is a self taught carpenter who specializes in 3D custom made cakes such aslife size guitars, replicas of cars, and much more. He is a builder—an engineer of cake, there is no limit to the possibilities. So basically, if it’s a challenge, bring it on! Joeleen is classically trained from Le Cordon Bleu in Pasadena, CA. As a Pastry Chef, she has worked under some great talents throughout LA and New York City where she developed a love for working with fresh and seasonal ingredients. On a quest to always learn more, she trained to become a baker. After years of working for others, she was determined to go out on her own. Having started her business over 11 years ago, Joeleen has developed her own style. Her passion is creating gorgeous free-hand piping on buttercream and fondant, with an emphasis on beautiful wedding cakes—what a romantic! What does the future hold for A Sweet Design? Well if you ask either Joeleen or Miguel, they will tell you that they are building their legacy daily—creating memories that will last a lifetime!

Wheat Free Options We are happy to be able to provide the option of Wheat Free Sweets, which include cakes, cupcakes, mini cupcakes, cake pops, and cookies. Our Wheat Free sweets are made with rice flour instead of wheat flour.
Do you have Wheat Free Cupcakes and Cake Pops Available Daily? We bake in small batches, please call in advance to confirm availability of our cupcakes and cake pops. Wheat Free cupcakes are $3.75 each and Wheat Free cake pops are $3.00 each. (Not to be combined with package deals of regular cupcakes). What is the minimum order requirement for Wheat Free Mini Cupcakes? Wheat Free mini cupcakes are $24 per dozen and we require a minimum order of 12 mini cupcakes (per flavor).
