THESIS Mylaudy Stone Craft and Resource Center
Each place has its own evolved identity that is defined through its socio-cultural, geographical, architectural factors. Here Mylaudy is a rural settlement in the district of Kanyakumari, state of Tamilnadu having its social production through occupational culture (stone craft work). It is one among the few settlements in Dravidian prescient (present day south India) still practicing traditional temple stone craft and sculpting. The proposal focuses on the strategies for holistic development of a rural settlement. The project is community-oriented visitor’s center creating a platform for sharing the local skill and knowledge, thus enhancing the scope of tourism and uplifting the socio-economic status of the community.
