HOW TO RESET YOUR MAC PASSWORD IF YOU FORGET IT

Password hint When you set up a password or change it for your current account, the system recommends you create a password hint. You can use this hint to remind you of your password. Just click the question icon next to the password field, and it will show you your hint.

Apple ID 1. In the Mac login window, click the question icon. 2. Under the password hint, click Reset it using Apple ID. Click OK. 3. Your Mac will restart and show you a Recovery Assistant black screen. 4. Follow what it says. This will reset your Mac password.

Recovery Mode 1. Restart your Mac in a recovery mode. 2. Open Terminal and type the following command resetpassword and press Return. 3. If you have several disks, choose the one you need and select your user account. 4. Set up a new password and hint for it and save the changes. 5. Restart your Mac.

Single User Mode 1. Restart your Mac in single user mode. 2. Open Terminal and type the following commands: mount -uw / launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.opendirectoryd.plist -passwd /Users/username/reboot

3. Where the username is your user account name for which you want to change a password. 4. Type your new password and press Return. Type it again to verify. 5. Type Reboot to restart your Mac.
