Sensitivity As Boundary

Mott Haven, located in South Bronx, has been an area overlooked by the development and planning of New York City. The complex racial, financial, and social issues became so prominent, that the needs of vulnerable LGBQT+ population has been neglected as less important matters. As one of the least LGBTQ+ friendly community in the five boroughs, many vulnerable individuals lack professional support, guidance, and shelter.

This project, “Translucent Threshold“, aims to design a community center that provides therapy sessions, career guidances, basic educations, immediate medical cares, LGBTQ+ advocations, and temporary shelter units. The program supports vulnerable individuals to cross the berriers of descriminations, homelessness, career setbacks, economic vulnerabilities, lack of cares and social resources. On the other hand, the community center also opens partially to the local community, to allow community bonding and acurate understanding of the LGBTQ+ community.

“Translucent Threshold“ serves as both the threshold of improving the lives of vulnerable individuals in the LGBTQ+ community, and a more inclusive community in Mott Haven.
