The Spirit of Australia
THE ART OF TASMANIA
THE FLAVOUR OF TASMANIA
WEDNESDAY 21ST APRIL 7.30-10.30PM
THURSDAY 22ND APRIL FROM 6PM
The night of 21 April will transform your opinions of Australia’s island state. We will present a world premiere, organised especially for you at ATEC Symposium 2010.
Thursday evening is free for all delegates to leisurely enjoy the hospitality of Hobart. Unwind, dine and discover the regional produce, vibrant heart and timeless charm of our harbour capital city.
The ‘Art of Tasmania’ begins at Hobart’s waterfront, at historic Sullivan’s Cove. From there you’ll cruise up the River Derwent to astonishing MONA – the Museum of Old and New Art. At MONA, you’ll be introduced to the Tasmanian producers responsible for some of the state’s acclaimed food and beverages and become familiar with their produce, their stories and MONA’s showcase menu. Our artists will entertain you as much as the gourmet flavours. And the world premiere? We can’t tell you more, sorry — we might be a friendly bunch in Tassie but we can keep secrets — so in homage to conviviality let us tell you one more thing: dress smart and casual.
The ever-popular Salamanca precinct and surrounding waterfront is home to some of Hobart’s finest restaurants and funkiest bars. We have created a variety of flavoursome experiences for you to savour and enjoy. Take your time and soak up the atmosphere and warmth of this great city, truly representative of the contemporary Tasmanian lifestyle. You’ll find exclusive special offers for dinner and drinks in your delegate bag on arrival and via the ATEC Symposium 2010 website – www.atec.net.au/symposium Make the night what you want, be it a casual affair or a more formal occasion. Enquiries can be made through the Tasmanian Information officer aside of the ATEC Symposium registration desk or by booking with the venue direct.
Pre & Post Symposium Social Activities Consider spending a few extra days in Tasmania pre or post Symposium, and take advantage of the special industry rates offered by our local tour operators and accommodation venues. Discover an island rich in history and world heritage wilderness. Explore the diverse beauty of our fascinating regions and be intrigued by our native wildlife. Enjoy a place where adventure, culture and luxury converge. A detailed list of industry offers can be viewed at www.atec.net.au/473784_3.html or with the Tasmanian Information officer aside of the ATEC Symposium registration desk. Bookings can be made by contacting the operator directly.

From north to south, Accor has the hotel solutions Australia’s Far North Queensland is set to enjoy a renaissance of interest with international visitors thanks to new air routes and upgraded hotel product. Leading the way for FNQ hotels has been the Mercure Port Douglas Treetops, whose complete refurbishment and re-launch as Mercure has given new energy to a fabled beach resort made famous in past decades by the likes of celebrities such as former US President, Bill Clinton, Mick Jagger and Kylie Minogue. Treetops Resort & Spa was one of Port Douglas’ pioneering resorts in the st mid-1990s, and its 21 century makeover has balanced its lush eco credentials with a new design that offers most contemporary style, comfort and facilities. Overseas visitors love the sensitive design of the hotel, with the low-rise accommodation set amongst rainforest gardens, free flowing waterways and lily ponds. This natural ecosystem is a habitat for native wildlife, including large barramundi in the ponds, countless breeds of native birds and spectacular Ulysses butterflies. A little further south, Palm Cove is reinforcing its image as a relaxed beachfront village with serious restaurant credentials. Accor offers two of the most attractive accommodation options – Grand Mercure Rockford, which provides apartment-style accommodation set around a stunning melaleuca-fringed swimming pool, and Novotel Rockford Palm Cove, whose vast grounds, extensive sporting and recreation facilities, range of accommodation styles and close proximity to the beach and village centre make it a favourite resort for groups, families and couples. Cairns city is a perfect location for exploring all the attractions that Far North Queensland offers. Accor has a wide choice of hotels – from well-priced All Seasons and Mercure hotels, to the completely renovated Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort (with its massive sandy lagoon pool), and the top of the range Pullman Reef Casino in the heart of the city, which (uniquely) includes a rooftop zoo experience complete with a 4 metre giant crocodile. If Far North Queensland is hot for Accor, normally chilly Tasmania is equally hot. Late last year, Cradle Mountain Lodge joined the Accor network as one of its boutique MGallery hotels. Australia’s most renowned wilderness lodge, its peerless location, decadent spa and outstanding hospitality has made it a destination in its own right. Accor also covers the two major gateways for Tasmania, with Mercure hotels in Launceston and Hobart. One of the most exciting developments for Hobart in many years is the opening later this year of a completely new wing of the historic Grand Mercure Hadleys hotel. While the Grand Mercure dates back to 1834 – and its heritage is being fully protected in the development – the new wing will add a further 128 luxury suites, as well as conference and function facilities for up to 600 delegates and nine food and beverage outlets which will really help elevate Hobart’s capacity to host major inbound groups. Accor is Australia’s largest hotel group with over 150 hotels under the Sofitel, Pullman, MGallery, Grand Mercure, Novotel, Mercure, All Seasons, Ibis and Formule brands.
