What follows is but a glimpse into the depth and breadth of contributions made by Medical Illustrators to illuminate the science of the COVID-19 global pandemic.

We are honored to thank and pay tribute to them here in these pages and on our sister site, Medical Illustration & Animation, medillsb.com.

Medical illustrators raced to collaborate with researchers to help uncover the structure of the novel coronavirus COVID-19, then worked and re-worked artistic concepts as new science emerged. We helped explain the virus’s mechanism of infection and how to prevent its spread. We partnered with innovators to patent new types of PPE, explained how the vaccine candidates work, and re-conceptualized health care spaces to better accommodate highly infectious patient populations. This was a massive community undertaking to educate the public and attempt to save lives.
