KEN STOTT

REECE SHEARSMITH

THE HOBBIT, WAR AND PEACE, THE VICE, REBUS, ART

THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN, INSIDE NUMBER 9, THE WIDOWER, HANGMEN

Ken Stott and Reece Shearsmith come together as lead actor ‘Sir’ and Norman ‘the dresser’ in this eagerly awaited revival of ‘A WONDERFULLY AFFECTIONATE AND INTELLIGENT PLAY ABOUT THE THEATRE’ (THE GUARDIAN). Both hilarious and poignant, The Dresser explores the relationship between two men who are reluctantly and inevitably co-dependent. As World War II rages, backstage in a provincial English theatre, an ageing, once famous classical actor is troubled. Sir, the last in a dying breed of great English Shakespearean actors, is unwilling to take to the stage to deliver his renowned portrayal of King Lear. It falls to his faithful dresser Norman to rouse another great performance from him, to keep both the show and its star from falling apart. Renowned as Ronald Harwood’s greatest play, The Dresser has been nominated for Olivier and Tony Awards as well as an Academy Award for the screenplay of the film. With a multi award winning creative team of Ken Stott (Rebus, God of Carnage), Reece Shearsmith (The League of Gentlemen, Inside Number 9) and Sean Foley (The Ladykillers, Jeeves and Wooster) this promises to be an unmissable production of a theatrical classic.

MON 10 - SAT 15 OCT Eves 7.45pm Thu & Sat mats 2.30pm

English rose Lucy Honeychurch is touring Italy with her prim spinster cousin Charlotte Bartlett as chaperone. Charlotte is quick to step in when Lucy makes the mistake of fraternising with the lower class Mr Emerson and his son George at their Florentine hotel. However, when she witnesses Lucy and George kissing, she has no option but to whisk Lucy away to Rome. Back home at the family’s Surrey estate, Lucy becomes engaged to the eminently suitable (but pretentious) Cecil Vyse. Charlotte has sworn Lucy to secrecy over the kiss with George, but will Lucy be able to repress her feelings when she discovers that the Emersons have taken a house in the village? With its cast of vivid characters, this elegant comedy, written in 1908, is widely recognised as one of the finest novels of the twentieth century.

Director NIKOLAI FOSTER Designer MATTHEW WRIGHT Music GRANT OLDING Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the classic tale of Holly Golightly written by Truman Capote and so memorably portrayed by Audrey Hepburn in the iconic 1961 film, is being given a new lease of life as a stage play with music in a sparkling, sophisticated production starring Georgia May Foote (Runner up Strictly Come Dancing, Coronation Street) as Holly. Adapted by Pulitzer Prize finalist and Tony and Olivier Award winning playwright Richard Greenberg and directed by Nikolai Foster, this tale of vivacious, good time girl Holly Golightly and her fantastical existence in 1940s New York City, is told through the eyes of a young writer, completely fascinated by this exquisite extrovert who every woman wants to be and every man wants to be with. With memorable songs from the era, this stylish production is set to capture the hearts of audiences and sparkle like a diamond in a Tiffany’s window.

Written by Willy Russell, the legendary Blood Brothers tells the captivating and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with fateful consequences. Few musicals have received quite such acclaim as the multi award winning Blood Brothers. Bill Kenwright’s production surpassed 10,000 performances in London’s West End, one of only three musicals ever to achieve that milestone. It has been affectionately christened the ‘Standing Ovation Musical’, as inevitably it ‘BRINGS THE AUDIENCE CHEERING TO ITS FEET AND ROARING ITS APPROVAL’ (THE DAILY MAIL). Lyn Paul returns to the iconic role she has played many times in the West End, in fact she was the show’s final Mrs Johnstone when it closed at the Phoenix Theatre in 2012. Lyn also starred in Bill Kenwright’s tour of Cabaret with Will Young in 2013 and rose to fame as a member of the pop group New Seekers whose numerous number one hits include I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing which sold over 20 million copies. The superb score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True.

THE SMASH HIT MUSICAL DIRECT FROM THE WEST END

★★★★

‘SUBLIME. WONDERFULLY FUNNY’ THE DAILY TELEGRAPH

The Commitments is a fantastically feel good celebration of soul. Direct from a phenomenally successful, record breaking run in London’s West End, The Commitments is based on the BAFTA award winning film classic. The show received universal critical acclaim following its London world premiere and was quickly hailed as a smash hit musical sensation. The Commitments is the story of Jimmy Rabbitte, a young working class music fan, who shapes an unlikely bunch of amateur musicians and friends into an amazing live act, the finest soul band Dublin has ever produced. Placing a classified advert in a music paper, Jimmy auditions a number of wannabes before finalising the new line up who he names The Commitments. The Commitments musical has been adapted from the novel by Booker prize winning author Roddy Doyle himself. Photos of previous cast

GHOST DANCES AND OTHER WORKS

Christopher Bruce’s masterpiece Ghost Dances is possibly the most popular work in Rambert’s history. It tells stories of love and compassion, as death - in the form of the iconic ‘ghosts’ - interrupts the daily lives of a series of ordinary people. Created as a response to political oppression in South America, it uses imagery from the Day of the Dead and bewitching traditional songs to create a moving, intensely human work. This revival is the first time it has been seen in the UK since 2003. Ghost Dances is presented in a triple bill alongside two new creations by Rambert. Each of the pieces is accompanied by live music, and together they showcase the range, dynamism and virtuosity of Britain’s national dance company.
