WELCOME SUMMER 2015 Welcome to our Summer programme at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre with a diverse offering of powerful dance, uplifting West End Musicals, must-see one night shows and information on our exciting new Aylesbury Waterside Theatre Musical Theatre Project. There’s a fantastic season ahead and we are proud to announce we have X Factor winner Sam Bailey starring as Fairy Bowbells in this year’s family pantomime, Dick Whittington.
with his new one-man show Miracle, further demonstrating his skill as a dark manipulator of magic and mind control.
West End phenomenon, Jersey Boys is making its Waterside debut having won 55 major awards worldwide. Telling the true life story of four boys from the wrong side of the tracks, the show features hits including Beggin’, December 1963 (Oh What A Night), Walk Like A Man and Big Girls Don’t Cry. Familiar face Pauline McLynn (Father Ted, Shameless and EastEnders) stars in one of the best British Comedies, East is East in June promising plenty of laughs in this modern comedy classic, and the critically acclaimed Oh What A Lovely War plays musical tribute to the men and women who saved the nation 100 years ago. Other musicals not-to-be-missed include Monty Python’s Spamalot and a talented cast including hugely entertaining puppets in Avenue Q.
Enjoy our wide programme of one night shows with something for everyone from Sooty and Basil Brush, to popular comedians Dara O Briain, Milton Jones and Reginald D Hunter, and the best in touring tribute shows including The Illegal Eagles, The Chicago Blues Brothers and The Bootleg Beatles.
Alan Ayckbourn’s Absent Friends, one of his finest plays, explores friendship, marriage and what it means to be happy in this London Classic Theatre production, and we’re pleased to welcome the return of Northern Ballet with powerful storytelling in two breathtaking ballets; Madam Butterfly and Perpetuum Mobile. They also have an offering for young dance enthusiasts with the Elves and the Shoemaker, retelling the famous Brothers Grimm story.
A first for the theatre this Summer, is our Aylesbury Waterside Theatre Musical Theatre Project in conjunction with Flametree Productions. The search is on for enthusiastic, young performers and musicians aged 8 - 21 years, with open workshops taking place in March and April to explore and develop ideas. Contact liz@flametreeproductions.co.uk for more information.

Direct From Three Years In The West End
Monty Python’s Spamalot
gallops back out on tour to bring the West End production to theatres across the land (to the sound of banging coconut shells). Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot is a kind-of-new musical with a book by Eric Idle and an entirely new score for the new production (well, almost), created by Eric Idle and John du Prez. The latest tour, which is directed by Christopher Luscombe, follows hot on the heels of the can’t–believe-how-successful-it-was Monty Python Reunion at The O2 and Eric Idle’s acclaimed performance of Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life at the 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony - the world sang along, and Spamalot audiences get the opportunity to do so too! During the run, there have been 21 onstage moustache incidents, three suspected cases of swine flu (French pigs!), three outbreaks of nits and 92 pairs of coconuts.

CLASSIC AYCKBOURN VISITS AYLESBURY THIS SUMMER LONDON CLASSIC THEATRE PRESENTS
‘LONDON CLASSIC THEATRE HAS A PROVEN TRACK RECORD OF HIGH QUALITY TOURING PRODUCTIONS’ THE STAGE
Summer 1974. A well-intentioned tea party descends into chaos. Wealthy, unfulfilled housewife Diana arranges a gathering of old friends to cheer up bereaved Colin, whose fiancée drowned two months earlier. Paul, her bullying, self-absorbed husband, has recently had a dalliance with Evelyn, the glamorous wife of his friend and incompetent business associate, John. The party is completed by long-suffering Marge, who has left Gordon, her hypochondriac spouse, ailing at home.
THU 14 - SAT 16 MAY Thu - Sat eves 7.30pm Sat mat 2.30pm C G S Details page 33
Preparations for the party spark tensions and open old wounds. As lingering resentments and deep-rooted jealousies surface, an unexpectedly cheerful Colin strolls into the mayhem. Acerbic and painfully funny, Absent Friends explores friendship, marriage and what it ultimately means to be happy. In one of his finest plays, Ayckbourn’s craftsmanship and acute social observation have never been sharper or more biting.

POWERFUL STORYTELLING AND BREATHTAKING DANCE
SAT 20 JUN 12.30pm & 2.15pm Northern Ballet presents their latest ballet for children, retelling the famous Brothers Grimm story. These child friendly performances will last approximately 40 minutes. Perfect for ages 3+
Be moved this summer and let ‘Europe’s leading dance actors’ captivate you through a mix of powerful storytelling and classical dance as Northern Ballet perform two breathtaking ballets in one evening. Northern Ballet transports you to Japan as the company presents a new adaptation of its much-loved and heartbreakingly tragic Madame Butterfly. The inspiration for the world famous musical Miss Saigon, the story of Madame Butterfly tells of the doomed love affair between an American Naval Lieutenant and his young Japanese bride, Butterfly. Madly in love and prepared to sacrifice everything, Butterfly’s world falls apart when she is abandoned and betrayed. Perpetuum Mobile (Perpetual Motion) doesn’t tell a story but does show off the dancers at their athletic best. The incredible strength and prowess of Northern Ballet’s dancers will leave you breathless. So let Northern Ballet’s uniquely expressive dancers sweep you away for an evening of unrivalled storytelling, dance and live music.
