WELCOME SUMMER 2016 Welcome to our forthcoming programme of shows and events at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre. I recently joined the theatre team as General Manager and am thoroughly enjoying my role in this beautiful venue. The flexibility of the spaces continues to impress me and is something we are looking to develop with a growing number of events ranging from Roller Discos, Dance Nights and Live Screenings to private hires for parties, conferences and exhibitions. Our 6th year is shaping up to be jam-packed with West End productions, must-see live music gigs, stunning plays and lots of familiar faces from the comedy scene. With a huge offering of family productions too, there’s plenty to see for all tastes and ages. Brand new musical Tom: A Story of Tom Jones tells the story of the Valley’s boy and his climb to stardom, whilst family favourite The Sound of Music revisits the popular story of the Von Trapp family. Cult classic, Richard O’Brien’s Rocky Horror Show returns with post-show party nights available after weekend performances, and the ultimate celebration of The Beatles makes its Waterside debut in May with Let It Be. Alongside the return of Friars Aylesbury bringing back King Crimson, we are also delighted to be welcoming The Proclaimers, ex-Marillion frontman Fish in his 30th Anniversary Tour, and some of the best musical tributes on the circuit including The Illegal Eagles, The Johnny Cash Roadshow and Killer Queen. With musical celebrations also in store with The Simon and Garfunkel Story, The Chicago Blues Brothers and Buddy Holly and the Cricketers, make sure you don’t miss out on any of our one-night-only shows. This season’s comedy offering includes names such as Jimmy Carr, Al Murray and Sean Lock, and of course our ever-popular monthly Comedy Club. Live Screenings continue to be broadcast in our Second Space alongside more intimate productions including an evening of mediumship with psychic Tony Stockwell, and music courtesy of the Ian English Boodlum Band.

The Olivier award-winning Chichester Festival Theatre production of Goodnight Mister Tom returns to the stage starring David Troughton (The Archers). Now a modern classic, Michelle Magorian’s wonderfully uplifting tale is brought gloriously to life in this magical stage adaptation by David Wood. Set during the dangerous build up to the Second World War, Goodnight Mister Tom follows young William Beech, who is evacuated to the idyllic English countryside and forges a remarkable and heart-warming friendship with the elderly recluse, Tom Oakley. All is perfect until William is suddenly summoned by his mother back to London. Winner of the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize and commended for the Carnegie Medal, Goodnight Mister Tom is now a world-wide literary favourite and BAFTA award-winning TV film (starring John Thaw), and continues to inspire audiences and bring generations together.
