An allegory of the chilling McCarthyism of American politics in the 1950s, The Crucible also serves as a warning to future generations. Enter the world of sensationalism, hysteria and the power of celebrity that was the Salem Witch Trials and ask yourself how innocent we can really be as we stand by and watch a witch-hunt unfold. This bold new production of The Crucible starring Charlie Condou (Coronation Street), as the witch hunter, Reverend Hale and Victoria Yeates (Call the Midwife), as the falsely accused Elizabeth Proctor, is directed by Douglas Rintoul, Artistic Director of the Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch, and brings together music and movement through a strong and ever-present cast. This atmospheric staging of a theatre classic is a chilling reminder of the frailty of reason in the face of hysteria.

Following an acclaimed, sold-out run at Chichester Festival Theatre, Fracked! or: please don’t use the F-word now visits Brighton as part of a major UK tour. The distinguished cast includes James Bolam (New Tricks, Glengarry Glen Ross), Anne Reid (Hedda Gabler, Last Tango in Halifax), Michael Simkins (Yes, Prime Minister, HayFever) and Harry Hadden-Paton (Flarepath, The Crown). Alistair Beaton’s new razor-sharp black comedy takes us to an idyllic English village threatened by an energy company intent on drilling for shale gas. Elizabeth is a retired academic who finds herself transformed from obedient citizen to angry protestor. While her increasingly grumpy husband longs for the quiet life, Elizabeth soars to fame via social media. Desperate to get planning permission, hard-nosed PR men team up with a corrupt local councillor to persuade the villagers that fracking is a good thing. CASUS CIRCUS

KNEEHIGH

DRIFTWOOD

TRISTAN & YSEULT

Sensational Australian circus group Casus (Knee Deep, Brighton Festival 2013) elevates circus to a form of silent theatre in which momentum alternates with stillness, strength with fragility, emotion with humour. In this colourful and turbulent concoction of pure joy and intimacy, Casus brings a blank canvas to life and reveals our innate need for human contact. This is a show that reminds us that to feel is to be human; that in a moment of danger, a grasping hold is survival.

Cornish King Mark is at war: he rules with his head not his heart. But he hasn’t counted on falling head over heels for his enemy’s sister, or expected the arrival of the enigmatic Tristan.

★★★★

‘STRIPPED BACK CIRCUS SKILLS THAT ARE BOTH BREATHTAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL AND EYE-WATERINGLY DIFFICULT’ THE SCOTSMAN

Sink down upon us. Night of love, make me forget I live.

This is the original tale of forbidden desires, broken hearts and the agony of choosing one human being over another. Seen through the eyes of the ‘Unloved’, Tristan & Yseult blends comedy, live music, grand passion and tender truths in an irresistible night of love. Emma Rice’s acclaimed staging of the Cornish legend catapulted Kneehigh onto the national stage leading to many other memorable productions including Brief Encounter and Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca last seen in Brighton in 2015. Tristan & Yseult remains one of the company’s most loved shows.

In 1964, a new phenomenon exploded onto the dingy British streets. It was the essence of all that was cool. It was Mod. Mods stuck two fingers up at the class-ridden society and its dull redundant culture. They were working-class free spirits who rode sexy streamlined Italian Vespas or Lambrettas. The sharpest Mod of all was known as a ‘FACE’. The Small Faces encapsulated all that is Mod, a unique blend of taste and testosterone, neat, clothes obsessed and street-wise. But these cult sophisticates shared another passion, their dedication to Rhythm ‘n’ Blues. This quintessentially British ‘Mod’ Musical celebrates the unique sound of the iconic ‘60s Mod band, The Small Faces. Featuring the music of The Small Faces, including an arsenal of brilliant hits like Whatcha Gonna Do About It, Lazy Sunday, Tin Soldier, Sha La La La Lee, Itchycoo Park and of course All Or Nothing.

Daisy and Hoke’s relationship gets off to a rocky start, but as times change across a 25 year backdrop of prejudice, inequality and civil unrest, a profound and life-altering friendship blossoms in this acclaimed comedy drama. From its landmark off-Broadway production in 1987 to the remarkable success of the 1989 film version, which was the winner of four Academy Awards including Best Picture, Driving Miss Daisy has touched the hearts of millions worldwide. From her multi award-wining performance in I, Claudius to the epic film Dune, from a Tony nominated performance of Marlene on Broadway to Cabaret in the West End, Dame Siân Phillips has enjoyed a dazzling career which spans more than seven decades. RSC actor and legendary children’s show presenter, Derek Griffiths’ numerous West End credits include the original production of Beauty and the Beast in which he originated the role of Lumière and the Child Catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. He currently plays Freddie Smith in Coronation Street.

Following its critically acclaimed West End revival at the Haymarket, Alan Ayckbourn’s hilarious tale of matrimonial mishaps and London’s funniest comedy of 2016 embarks on a national tour. As Bob and Fiona clumsily try to cover up their affair, their spouses’ intervention only adds to the confusion. William and Mary Featherstone become hopelessly stuck in the middle, falsely accused of adultery and with no idea as to how they’ve become involved. The plot culminates in two disastrous dinner parties on successive nights, shown at the same time, after which the future of all three couples seems in jeopardy… The star cast includes leading stage and TV actor Robert Daws, best known for the hit series’ The Royal, Outside Edge and Roger Roger opposite Caroline Langrishe who starred in Lovejoy, Holby City and Judge John Deed, Matthew Cottle from the Bafta-nominated Game On who transfers direct from the West End production and Sara Crowe, whose West End credits include Alan Ayckbourn’s Absurd Person Singular and The Constant Wife but perhaps is best known for her role in the popular film Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Eunice struggles to fit in. When she joins a wealthy family as their housekeeper the very reason for her awkwardness, long hidden and deeply buried, leads inexorably to a terrible tale of murder in cold blood - on Valentine’s Day. Ruth Rendell’s brilliant plot unravels a lifetime of deceit, despair and cover-ups which, when revealed, brings a shocking revelation almost as grizzly as murder itself. Building on the phenomenal decade-long success of The Agatha Christie Theatre Company, which sold over two million tickets and continually played to packed houses around the UK, Bill Kenwright presents a new production adapted from one of the most celebrated works of the writer often hailed as the successor to Agatha Christie. Credited with revitalising the mystery genre, Ruth Rendell was first published in 1964 and her prolific output included film, TV and 80 novels. STAR CASTING TO BE ANNOUNCED!
