MUSICAL THEATRE WORKSHOP Looks at developing performance skills in a fun and relaxing environment, using content from Annie as a stimulus. Learn about the history of our beautiful Edwardian theatre, discover how it works and see the auditorium as the stars do...from the stage! Tours are available to school groups of up to 46 pupils and are priced at £3 per person or free to schools taking part in Sunderland Empire led workshops.
Empire Connect Empire Connect is a charitable scheme set up by the Sunderland Empire Creative Learning department and supported by the Theatre Trust Board, to help subsidise the cost of school and community group visits to the theatre. Funding is available towards travel to the venue and creative learning activities and is offered via a strict application criteria (subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed). Employability Package
Workshop Fees and Booking Info Sunderland Empire led workshops are priced at £160 for groups of up to 25 students and include a free venue tour, followed by refreshments. Everyone goes through an audition at some point in their life. Performers audition all the time; however a regular job interview can also be an audition, an opportunity for someone to show off their knowledge and skills. Develop confidence, communication skills and learn how to stand out in an interview with our employability workshops and discover how to improve your audition (whatever the role) and maximise your employability in a safe, engaging and fun environment. Ideal for students applying to University and performing arts schools. Workshops can be tailored to meet the needs of NEETS and alternative education groups.
Work Experience We believe that local talent and enthusiasm for the many roles within the theatre industry should be nurtured. We offer a comprehensive work experience placement scheme for GCSE level students, plus back stage (ages 18+) and intensive placements for HE/FE students.

Sunderland Empire can do more than just what appears on the stage; we have an active and forward thinking Creative Learning Department who devise educational opportunities for young people to creatively engage with the theatre and the performing arts. Working with schools, colleges and universities across the North East, to educate and inspire young people in theatre, we offer a diverse range of resources, including workshops, education packs, talks, tours and more, all to support your learning needs.

RELAXED PERFORMANCE – Thu 17 Dec 1.30pm A Relaxed Performance is catered for people with learning and behavioural disorders and ideal for a young person’s first visit to the theatre. The atmosphere in the theatre is more relaxed and possible changes to light and sound may be made. Audience members can come and go as they please, there are no latecomer’s rules and no one will be asked to be quiet. EMPIRE CONNECT FUND Sunderland Empire is delighted to offer funding to assist schools booking for Aladdin, as part of our Empire Connect Fund contributing up to £150 to help towards travel to the venue, workshops and tours.
