PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT

We welcome American Idiot starring Amelia Lily in May, which played to critical acclaim in London, before we shake our groove thing with Priscilla Queen of the Desert in June and march to the sound of Sgt Pepper with Let It Be later that month. In July we will be saying a fond farewell to Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace in their final theatre tour, The Last Tango, before taking a step back in time to the 1960s with Save The Last Dance For Me, starring Blue’s Antony Costa. Looking ahead to the autumn, for young theatre goers we have Peppa Pig’s Surprise in October, we’ll be stargazing with Prof Brian Cox and have confirmed our Christmas production, which this year will be Richard O’Brien’s Rocky Horror Show. We are also delighted to be welcoming some of the top names in music and comedy to the city including Bill Bailey, Russell Watson, Adam Ant, Al Murray and Level 42. If there are any shows or artists you would love to see performing on our stage please do let me know and we’ll do our best to entice them to the New Theatre. You may have noticed the changes to our stalls bar, which has been given a fantastic transformation into a Piano Bar. It is one of several changes we have made to improve the customer experience. Why not visit before your show and add some real sparkle to your evening, we also have a full range of coffees and teas to chase away any winter chill. To guarantee that you keep up with all the latest information, show announcements and special offers please do give us your email address and we will keep you up to date.

BILL KENWRIGHT PRESENTS

A NEW PRODUCTION OF

Shakespeare’s plays are some of the greatest in the English language and have inspired composers to create great operas and musicals. This autumn WNO commemorates the 400 anniversary of the death of the bard with two very different nights at the theatre.

COLE PORTER’S KISS ME, KATE MUSIC AND LYRICS BY COLE PORTER BOOK BY BELLA AND SAMUEL SPEWACK CRITICAL EDITION BY DAVID CHARLES ABELL AND SEANN ALDERKING A CO-PRODUCTION WITH OPERA NORTH

1940s Baltimore. And it’s op’nin’ night of a musical version of The Taming of the Shrew. Rehearsals are over, costumes donned and there’s a 10 minute curtain call. What you’re about to witness is a whole lot more than Shakespeare’s comic love story. Full of wit, dance, show business and hit songs including Another Op’nin’, Another Show, Brush Up Your Shakespeare and Always True to You in My Fashion, Cole Porter’s classic musical will leave any Tom, Dick or Harry grinning from ear to ear.

MACBETH Verdi described Shakespeare’s play as ‘ONE OF MANKIND’S GREATEST CREATIONS’ and his adaptation is fittingly brooding and ferocious. Oliver Mears’ gripping modern day production brings this thrilling opera urgently to life.

HHHHH

‘THE MUSICAL WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR. A SWEET-SOUL SOLID-GOLD, FIVE-STAR BLAST. SO GOOD I ALMOST WEPT’ THE SUNDAY TIMES

‘A TRULY ENTERTAINING CLASSIC THRILLER’ THE SUNDAY TIMES

The Mousetrap is famous around the world for being the longest running show of any kind in the history of theatre, with over 26,000 performances in London. This record-breaking 60th anniversary production is back by popular demand following a record breaking sell out week in 2013. The scene is set when a group of people gathered in a country house cut off by the snow discover, to their horror, that there is a murderer in their midst. Who can it be? One by one the suspicious characters reveal their sordid pasts until at the last, nerve-shredding moment the identity and the motive are finally revealed. In her own inimitable style, Dame Agatha Christie has created an atmosphere of shuddering suspense and a brilliantly intricate plot where murder lurks around every corner.
