FLARE PATH IS THE EPIC WARTIME ROMANCE BY CELEBRATED PLAYWRIGHT TERENCE RATTIGAN FROM THE PRODUCERS OF THE CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED BIRDSONG

LEON OLIVIA PHILIP OCKENDEN HALLINAN FRANKS

TERENCE RATTIGAN’S

LEON OCKENDEN OLIVIA HALLINAN PHILIP FRANKS

‘I WAS VERY MOVED BY THIS PLAY. IT IS A MASTERPIECE’ WINSTON CHURCHILL

Set in 1942, against a backdrop of heartache and quiet bravery, Flare Path paints an evocative portrait of life in wartime Britain for the RAF bomber crews, their wives and sweethearts, who were left awaiting their return. RAF pilot Teddy and his wife, former actress Patricia, have their marriage tested to the limit by the surprise arrival of her ex-lover Peter Kyle. Highly charged drama with a truly authentic taste of the fear, camaraderie and passion combine when an unexpected and dangerous mission over Germany puts Patricia at the centre of an emotional conflict as unpredictable as the war in the skies. Recently seen in London’s West End, this brand new production will be directed by rising star Justin Audibert (RSC, Young Vic, West Yorkshire Playhouse) and stars Philip Franks (Heartbeat), Olivia Hallinan (Lark Rise to Candleford), Leon Ockenden (Mr Selfridge) and Alastair Whately (Birdsong). This major revival comes from the producers behind the hit touring production of Birdsong.

ALL STAR CAST DIRECT FROM THE WEST END

Oscar Wilde’s much loved and brilliantly witty masterpiece The Importance of Being Earnest returns to Richmond by popular demand. Starring Rosalind Ayres, Nigel Havers, Martin Jarvis, Christine Kavanagh and Siân Phillips who reprise their West End performances, and are joined by Nigel Anthony, Carmen du Sautoy and David Shaw-Parker performing as The Bunbury Company of Players. This new production is directed by Lucy Bailey, designed by William Dudley with added material written by Simon Brett, lighting design by Oliver Fenwick, and composition and sound design by Tom Mills. The Importance of Being Earnest is known to elegantly lampoon the hypocrisies of a Victorian society and opens as two bachelors, the dependable John Worthing, J.P. and upper class playboy Algernon Moncrieff, feel compelled to create different identities in order to pursue two eligible ladies Cecily Cardew and Gwendolyn Fairfax. The hilarious misadventures which result from their subterfuge; their brushes with the redoubtable Lady Bracknell and the uptight Miss Prism result in a plot that twists and fizzles with some of the finest dialogue to be found in theatre.

MUSIC & LYRICS BY ROBERT LOPEZ & JEFF MARX

BOOK BY BASED ON AN ORIGINAL CONCEPT BY JEFF WHITTY ROBERT LOPEZ & JEFF MARX

This production is given by permission of JOSEF WEINBERGER LTD on behalf of MUSIC THEATRE INTERNATIONAL of New York

Following five years in the West End, sell-out runs worldwide and a smash hit tour in 2014 (packed with mischief, bad behaviour and political incorrectness) Avenue Q is hitting the road again! Created by Jeff Marx and Robert Lopez (Co-creator of Book of Mormon and writer of the songs for Disney’s Frozen) Avenue Q is an irresistibly charming musical which tells the story of the loveable characters on a downtown New York street trying to make sense of life’s burning issues. Hilarious, cheeky and uproariously entertaining, with a terrific batch of songs performed by a cast of hugely talented performers and puppets, Avenue Q is the musical like no other.

A frustrated mother, a daughter lost in her imagination, and a son intent on rebellion. By night, Tom lives the life of an assassin, an outlaw, a czar of the underworld, via his trips to the movies. By day, he works in a factory. In the apartment he shares with mother Amanda and sister Laura, the air hangs thick with the scent of sickly sweet flowers and his mother’s oppressive nostalgia. Laura barely survives it, a shadow of herself, clinging desperately to her only solace, a beloved glass menagerie. When Amanda insists Tom brings home a gentleman caller for Laura, the fragile dreams of all three are shattered with consequences they may never escape. Pioneering director Ellen McDougall creates this new production from Headlong, producers of The Absence of War, 1984 and The Seagull, in a co-production with West Yorkshire Playhouse and Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse. One of the UK’s brightest young directing talents, her previous work includes critically acclaimed productions of Henry the Fifth, Anna Karenina, The Rolling Stone and Idomeneus.

DIRECT FROM THE WEST END THEATRE ROYAL BATH PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS

DIRECTED BY MICHAEL LONGHURST Bad Jews enjoyed its UK premiere in Bath as part of the Summer Season 2014, where it opened to a raft of superlative reviews. This ‘BLISTERINGLY FUNNY PLAY’ (SUNDAY TIMES) then transferred to London’s St James Theatre where it became the best-selling play in the theatre’s history, followed by an extended run at the West End’s Arts Theatre where the packed houses and rave reviews continued. Don’t miss the chance to experience a night like no other. A beloved grandfather has died, and a treasured family heirloom with religious significance is up for grabs. But who is most deserving of it? Bossy, overbearing, fanatically religious Daphna? Her wealthy cousin Liam, who’s just returned from skiing with his non-Jewish girlfriend Melody? Or Jonah, his brother, who would prefer not to get involved in the fight? A Manhattan apartment becomes the setting for a viciously hilarious brawl over family, faith and legacy as the contenders set at each other’s throats on the night after the funeral.

‘ALSTON’S VERSATILE, ATHLETIC COMPANY ARE A KNOCKOUT’ SUNDAY TIMES

★★★★

‘QUITE THE TOUR DE FORCE’

Proudly celebrating its twentieth year, Richard Alston Dance Company comes to Richmond Theatre with a knock-out new programme showcasing Alston’s superbly skilled choreography. Brisk Singing celebrates the music of Jean Phillippe Rameau, genius of the French baroque. Alston has revived this uplifting dance for 8 dancers, carried along by the warmth and lightness of spirit in Rameau’s music. Martin Lawrance’s extraordinary Burning premiered in September 2014 to standing ovations and five star reviews. A smouldering dance as passionate and turbulent as its music, the Dante Sonata of Franz Liszt. Richard Alston’s brand new piece, Nomadic, mixes Asianinfluenced traditional Romany singing with the toughness of an urban beat. To explore the interaction between gypsy music and urban sound, Alston has collaborated with the young choreographer Ajani Johnson-Goffe in a career first.

DIRECT FROM THE WEST END

William Golding’s 20th century classic Lord of the Flies explodes onto the stage in a remarkable production direct from London’s award-winning Regent’s Park Theatre, creators of the recent smash-hit, To Kill a Mockingbird. When a group of schoolboys survive a catastrophic plane crash, what starts as a desert island adventure quickly descends into a struggle for survival in a darkly sinister world of superstition and immorality. Playing to capacity audiences during its original run, this acclaimed production is guaranteed to grip from start to finish.

THE MUSICAL FOR ALL TIME BILL KENWRIGHT PRESENTS

THEIR LIVES WERE WORLDS APART...

...THEIR DESTINY JOINED THEM TOGETHER

BEST MUSICAL ALL AWARDS Written by Willy Russell, the legendary Blood Brothers tells the captivating and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with fateful consequences. Few musicals have received quite such acclaim as the multi award-winning Blood Brothers. Bill Kenwright’s production surpassed 10,000 performances in London’s West End, one of only three musicals ever to achieve that milestone. It has been affectionately christened the ‘Standing Ovation Musical’, as inevitably it ‘BRINGS THE AUDIENCE CHEERING TO ITS FEET AND ROARING ITS APPROVAL’ (THE DAILY MAIL). The superb score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True.

‘BRINGS THE GOLDEN AGE OF MYSTERY TO THE STAGE WITH PANACHE’ EVENING POST

Following the phenomenal decade-long success of The Agatha Christie Theatre Company, which sold over two million tickets and continually played to packed houses around the UK, Bill Kenwright presents a new production of one of stage and screen’s all time classic thrillers, from the pen of the legendary award-winning writing team Levinson and Link, whose work includes the mystery series Murder, She Wrote. Playwright Alex Dennison is left heartbroken when his fiancée and leading lady Monica Welles is found dead from an apparent suicide after the opening night of her stage debut. On the anniversary of that ill-fated night, Alex assembles the same cast and crew in the same theatre, for a reading of his new play. But as the reading begins, it becomes clear that Alex believes that Monica was murdered and his new play is a devious cat-and-mouse chase to uncover her killer.
