WELCOME TO SUNDERLAND EMPIRE AND YOUR NEW STYLE WHAT’S ON GUIDE...
The world-class productions aren’t the only thing I’m looking forward to. Over recent months the venue has transformed with a full renovation of the Dress Circle Bar and the introduction of an eatery - Garden Place Bistro. So the next time you visit, why not dine with us too! My favourite on the menu is the Aberdeen-Angus burger – delicious! The full menu can be found on our website.
Full of great shows and new features from April 2017, I’m especially looking forward to seeing Grease featuring an all-star cast, the hilarious La Cage aux Folles, plus the ultimate feel-good musical Hairspray. And not forgetting Mamma Mia!, making it’s Sunderland debut and currently receiving rave reviews on social media.
‘ABSOLUTELY AMAZING I WANT TO GO AGAIN’ KELLY BRUNDELL ON FACEBOOK
‘THE MOST UPLIFTING SHOW YOU COULD EVER SEE’ DEBORAH CARSON ON FACEBOOK
And now over to our Technical Manager who has led the recent renovations which also includes the conclusion of the construction works at the main tower and also the Director of the Sunderland2021 Bid, which myself and everyone at the theatre is proud to support.
‘I’m the Technical Manager and responsible for the smooth and safe running of our upcoming productions, plus any other technical works Mikey Smith within the theatre. It’s been a quite a busy time with the main tower and Terpsichore now restored to their full glory. A new modern lighting system has also been installed on the tower which will reveal a few surprises throughout the year. The new bar and bistro have certainly kept the team busy and I’m sure you’ll agree that the hard work has certainly paid off and the results are impressive!’
‘Every year around 300k people flock to the spectacular Sunderland Empire to enjoy world class hit shows, making Sunderland The West End Rebecca Ball of the North East! From theatre to photography, music to glass, heritage to coastline, Sunderland is packed with creative potential. Winning the UK City of Culture title for 2021 would mean a huge boast for the city and the North East, bringing profile, jobs, investment and of course a year-long programme of brilliant art, performance and music.’ Find out more www.sunderland2021.com
