CREATIVE LEARNING INTRODUCTION

The Creative Learning team is dedicated to providing opportunities for theatre makers and theatre audiences to access the arts. We work with young people, adults, community groups, schools and many more to facilitate a full programme of arts events throughout the year. SOUND AROUND

An innovative touring project coming to Sunderland, enabling thousands of young people to experience live orchestral music. Schools will be invited to bring students aged 10 – 14 to the theatre in March to see the world famous Royal Philharmonic Orchestra perform a range of classical masterpieces as well as themes from TV and films. See page 30 for further details.

SHOW RELATED LEARNING

CHICAGO – A musical theatre workshop, suitable for beginners to intermediates, in which participants learn Fosse style choreography. SLEEPING BEAUTY – Fun workshops that won’t put you to sleep! History of Panto takes you through the steps to create an hilarious scene, whilst learning about panto’s roots. Alternatively a confidence building session is a great way for groups to team build, have fun and get into the panto spirit. Fairy tale tours (opposite) are an option for preschool to KS1 groups. WONDERLAND – Inspired by the quirky creativity of Lewis Carroll, Wonderful Wacky Creative Thinking workshops offer groups an opportunity to experience absurdities to play weird and quirky games and improvisation exercises, whilst unlocking their creative and lateral thinking potential. GANGSTA GRANNY – Students will learn through a series of drama based storytelling exercises, working together to explore narrative and interpret text, as a basis to create their own Gangsta Granny inspired scenes, whilst studying basic performance techniques.

WEEKLY CLASSES

CURIOUS CONNECTIONS – Youth Theatre in partnership with No Limits Theatre. For ages 11-18 with additional needs such as high functioning Autism. Welcoming new members. MON 4.15pm – 5.45pm. £3pp. MUSICAL MONKEYS – Brand new 0-5’s group in which parents and carers join little ones for a fun sing along session to favourite story books. WED 9.30am – 1am. £6 per parent & child, including refreshments.

FUSION PROJECT – Weekly Youth Theatre for ages 11 – 16, led by the fantastic Katy Weir who held previous roles with National Youth Theatre. The group is welcoming new members for an exciting performance project – NT Connections Youth Theatre Festival! THU 4.15pm – 5.45pm. £30 per month paid termly. MOVERS – Contemporary dance and ballet based movement sessions for ages 65+. THU & FRI 10am – 12noon. £3pp including Tea & Coffee. Now registering members for a new group set to commence in 2017.

COMMUNITY CHORUS – For singers and non-singers run by local musician Bridie Jackson. Learn new tips on technique and performance skills covering a wide range of styles including pop, folk, gospel and classical. £3pp including Tea and Coffee. ARTS AWARD

A learning programme for ages 5 – 25, where participants explore a range of creative and cultural experiences, which can be tailored to schools’ learning outcomes or young people’s interests. Participants reflect upon their amazing experiences in a log book which is sent to Trinity College to be moderated, resulting in a qualification! We deliver and support Arts Award from ‘Discover’ (entry level outcome) to ‘Silver’ (GCSE level qualification outcome). Get in touch to discuss further.
