GOLDEN GLOBE ® WINNER

ADAPTED BY CHRISTOPHER LUSCOMBE DIRECTED BY JOE HARMSTON

‘sheer theatrical fun’ daily mail

Golden Globe winner Amanda Donohoe leads a stellar cast of 12 in Noël Coward’s deliciously funny final play, Star Quality. Taking us behind the scenes of a new West End production, Coward conjures up a wickedly observant satire of the backstage world of talent and treachery. From tentative first rehearsal to triumphant opening night, both leading lady and director are determined to get their own way and the resulting clash of egos becomes increasingly and hilariously bloody. What emerges is a startling evocation of that most elusive gift of all - star quality. Adapted by Christopher Luscombe (director of The Madness of George III and The History Boys), Star Quality is a fitting farewell from the master of the stage.

Howard Brenton

Lover. Heretic. Revolutionary. Queen. Compelling, witty and often laugh-out-loud funny, this celebration of a great English heroine, Anne Boleyn leaps cunningly between generations to expose the life and legacy of Henry VIII’s notorious second wife. Anne Boleyn is traditionally seen either as a pawn manipulated into the King’s bed, or as a sexually licentious predator, even a witch. But Howard Brenton puts a very different Anne – and her ghost – on the stage. Witty and confident in her sexuality, she takes on the vicious world of Tudor Court politics. She is in love with Henry but also in love with the most dangerous ideas of her day. Conspiring with the exiled William Tyndale, Anne plots to make England Protestant forever. Following two sell out London seasons, two powerhouses of great theatre - ETT and Shakespeare’s Globe, join forces to stage this vivid and vibrant production; gripping, rich in humour and shot through with sublime chamber music and visual imagery. Unmissable. Watch the trailer at www.ett.org.uk Photography by Manuel Harlan

‘A MASTERCLASS IN WHAT REGIONAL THEATRE CAN ACHIEVE AT ITS BEST’ THE daily TELEGRAPH

Hull Truck in association with Richard Jordan Productions limited presents

the lady in the van By Alan Bennett STARRING NICHOLA McAULIFFE Alan Bennett, known for plays including The History Boys and The Madness Of George III, has a very unusual neighbour parked at the bottom of his garden in a van. The lady in the van is Miss Shepherd. She used to drive ambulances in the war, might have been a nun, sells pencils and pamphlets and has an unexplained aversion to piano music. She lives in the playwright’s garden and has done for years. The Lady in the Van stars Nichola McAuliffe one of British theatre’s most loved actresses. As well as playing Sheila Sabatini in seven series of ITV’s Surgical Spirit, Nichola won an Olivier Award for Outstanding Performance by An Actress In A Musical for her role in Kiss Me Kate (RSC). Directed by Sarah Esdaile, whose recent credits include The Deep Blue Sea starring Maxine Peake for West Yorkshire Playhouse. ‘Hull Truck’s production has spectacular set pieces, but its power lies in the way that Bennett’s inner thoughts are so convincingly portrayed’ The Stage

ANTON BURGE BILL ALEXANDER The hilarious backstage story of the making of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? A heart warming and bittersweet comedy, Steel Magnolias tells the story of six very special friends bonded together by mutual triumphs and tragedies. Now on tour starring Kacey Ainsworth, Isla Blair, Cheryl Campbell, Cherie Lunghi, Sadie Pickering and Denise Welch, it’s coming to Brighton for one week only! Join six remarkable ladies from deep south Louisiana as they ride life’s rollercoaster and enjoy friendship that has no boundaries. Sharing each other’s strength and loyalty, these remarkable women survive the cycles of life, birth and death to emerge stronger, closer and still laughing. If you enjoyed Calendar Girls then this is a show you won’t want to miss!

Renowned actresses Anita Dobson and Greta Scacchi step into the shoes of legendary rivals Bette Davis and Joan Crawford as their thirty year feud reaches boiling point. In Anton Burge’s new comedy, two Hollywood stars whose careers have hit rock bottom are thrown together for the filming of the now classic film Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? The highs, the lows, the tantrums, are all exposed during this great night out at the Theatre. The movie propelled them both back to stardom, but will they ever speak to each other again?
