TRAFALGAR TEAM HIGHLIGHTS Martin
THEATRE MANAGER
What makes the Trafalgar Studios so special is that a major West End event, such as Richard III with Martin Freeman or The Ruling Class with James McAvoy, can play alongside a new piece of writing by a fledgling company under the same roof. This makes the venue one of the most exciting places to work and to visit in the West End. I am particularly looking forward to the smart and funny play Rotterdam, playing at Trafalgar Studio 2 from 26 July.

DEPUTY THEATRE MANAGER There is a great sense of pride which goes alongside working at the Trafalgar Studios. I believe it is one of the most thrilling London theatre venues, combining the feeling of prestige from the shows coming into Studio 1, and innovation from the shows in Studio 2.
I love the variety of our programme. Upcoming in Studio 1, we have Jesse Eisenberg’s The Spoils (great to see a comedy back at the Traf!), and alongside that in Studio 2, Arthur Miller’s gritty debut drama, No Villain. Two contrasting voices from across the BOX OFFICE ASSISTANT pond; perfect summer I have a soft spot for Studio 2; it’s so viewing. intimate, you really get to see the actors up close. I’ve seen so many subtle and moving performances in Studio 2, and I think Michael Socha in This Is Living is going to be no exception.

THE SPOILS
By Jesse Eisenberg Directed by Scott Elliot
The Spoils is the razor-sharp new comedy written by and starring international film star Jesse Eisenberg. A cuttingly satirical glimpse of a lost soul searching to assent the reality of his situation. Perceptively disconcerting, The Spoils speaks to the exasperated, selfanalysing millennial generation. A painfully awkward comedy, not to be missed! BAFTA, Golden Globe and Academy Award nominated Jesse Eisenberg, making his West End debut, is renowned for playing Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network. He also starred in To Rome with Love, directed by Woody Allen and is currently appearing in the blockbuster film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In 2013, Eisenberg wrote and starred alongside Vanessa Redgrave in his play The Revisionist (Off-Broadway). London born Kunal Nayyar is known to audiences across the globe from The Big Bang Theory. His theatre credits include the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Love’s Labour’s Lost. Joining them is Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones) making his West End stage debut. Celebrated stage actress Katie Brayben originated the role of Carole King in the London production of Beautiful. Completing the line-up is American actress Annapurna Sriram. This London premiere follows its New York debut hailed as ‘a triumph’ (New York Post) and described by The New York Times as ‘engrossingly acted and impeccably staged’.

THIS IS LIVING
Written and directed by
Liam Borrett
Alice and Michael met six years ago. Three years later their daughter Lily was born. Now, in a Yorkshire meadow, just past midnight, they’re having an argument. Because Alice is cold, she’s tired, and Michael won’t stop telling her that she died twelve hours ago. Following a critically-acclaimed Edinburgh production, this award-winning debut play by Liam Borrett will be presented at Trafalgar Studio 2, starring Michael Socha (E4’s The Aliens, This is England, Being Human) and Tamla Kari (BBC’s The Musketeers, The Inbetweeners Movie), a poignant exploration of what it means to say goodbye.

14 JUNE - 23 JULY Covent Garden Productions and Turner Theatre Ltd, in association with the Old Red Lion Theatre present
NO VILLAIN
By Arthur Miller Directed by Sean Turner
“My first attempt at a play, rather inevitably, had been about industrial action and a father and his two sons, the most autobiographical dramatic work I would ever write.” Arthur Miller Following the critically acclaimed, sell-out world premiere at The Old Red Lion, No Villain transfers to Trafalgar Studio 2 this summer. Over six days during spring break 1936 at the University of Michigan, a twenty year old college sophomore wrote his first play, No Villain. His aim was to win the prestigious Avery Hopwood award and, more importantly, the $250 prize he needed in order to return to college the following year. Miller won the award, and the subsequent one, but the play was never produced - until now. No Villain tells the story of a garment industry strike that sets a son against his factory proprietor father. Here, Miller explores the Marxist theory that would see him hauled before the House UnAmerican Activities Committee years later. This remarkable debut play gives us a tantalising glimpse of Miller’s early life, the seeding of his political values and the beginning of his extraordinary career.

26 JULY - 27 AUG Hartshorn – Hook Productions in association with Theatre503 presents
ROTTERDAM By Jon Brittain Directed by Donnacadh O’Brian
‘No, Alice, I don’t want to become a man, I just want to stop trying to be a woman.’ Following a critically-acclaimed, sell-out run at Theatre503 in 2015, Jon Brittain’s Rotterdam returns to London this summer. Alice wants to come out as a lesbian. Her girlfriend Fiona wants to start living as a man. It’s New Year in Rotterdam, and Alice has finally plucked up the courage to email her parents and tell them she’s gay. But before she can hit send, Fiona reveals that he has always identified as a man and now wants to start living as one named Adrian. Now, as Adrian begins his transition, Alice must face a question she never thought she’d ask... does this mean she’s straight? A bittersweet comedy about gender, sexuality and being a long way from home from writer Jon Brittain, co-creator of Margaret Thatcher Queen of Soho, and writer of What Would Spock Do? and The Sexual Awakening of Peter Mayo.
