WORLD PREMIERE COMMISSIONED BY BRIGHTON FESTIVAL ‘IF THERE IS A FUNNIER THEATRE COMPANY OUT THERE, I CAN’T THINK OF IT’ DOMINIC MAXWELL, THE TIMES ON OEDIPUSSY (BRIGHTON FESTIVAL 2012)

SPYMONKEY & TIM CROUCH

The Complete Deaths There are 74 onstage deaths in the works of William Shakespeare (75 if you count the fly killed in Titus Andronicus). From the Roman suicides in Julius Caesar to the death fall of Prince Arthur in King John; from the carnage at the end of Hamlet to snakes in a basket in Antony and Cleopatra. There’s also the pie that Titus serves his guests. Spymonkey will perform them all – sometimes lingeringly, sometimes messily, sometimes movingly, always hysterically. These ‘SERIOUSLY, OUTRAGEOUSLY, CLEVERLY FUNNY CLOWNS’ (TIME MAGAZINE) will scale the peaks of sublime poetry, and plumb the depths of darkest depravity. Directed by Tim Crouch (I, Malvolio, An Oak Tree, Adler & Gibb), The Complete Deaths is a solemn, sombre and sublimely funny tribute to the 400 th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. It may even be the death of them!

SAMUEL WEST STARS IN

MON 8 - SAT 13 AUG Eves 7.45pm Thu & Sat mats 2.30pm

DIRECTED BY STEPHEN UNWIN Actor, charmer and diva, Garry Essendine is determined to disregard his advancing years and receding hairline by revelling in endless tantrums and casual affairs. But just as he is about to depart for Africa, he finds himself besieged by a bevvy of would-be seductresses, not to mention his long suffering secretary, his estranged wife and an obsessed young playwright. As he attempts to disentangle himself from their clutches and demands, the humour escalates, accompanied by delicious dialogue and sparkling repartee. Samuel West (Notting Hill, Mr Selfridge, RSC’s Hamlet) stars in undoubtedly one of Noël Coward’s funniest plays as he looks at life behind the theatrical curtain and reveals a world of glittering wits, dashing dressing gowns and ostentatious personalities.

‘AN IRRESISTIBLE CELEBRATION OF TWO ACTORS’ LOVE AFFAIRS WITH THEIR SCRIPTS’ NEW YORK TIMES

‘ABSURDLY ENJOYABLE’ NEW YORK TIMES

Following their hit run on Broadway, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart return to Theatre Royal Brighton in Sean Mathias’ acclaimed production of No Man’s Land, one of the most brilliantly entertaining plays by Nobel Prize laureate Harold Pinter. One summer’s evening, two ageing writers, Hirst and Spooner, meet in a Hampstead pub and continue their drinking into the night at Hirst’s stately house nearby. As the pair become increasingly inebriated and their stories increasingly unbelievable, the lively conversation soon turns into a revealing power game, further complicated by the return home of two sinister younger men.

THE MUSICAL FOR ALL TIME BILL KENWRIGHT PRESENTS

THEIR DESTINY JOINED THEM TOGETHER

THEIR LIVES WERE WORLDS APART

Written by Willy Russell, the legendary Blood Brothers tells the captivating and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with fateful consequences. Few musicals have received quite such acclaim as the multi award winning Blood Brothers. Bill Kenwright’s production surpassed 10,000 performances in London’s West End, one of only three musicals ever to achieve that milestone. It has been affectionately christened the ‘Standing Ovation Musical’, as inevitably it ‘BRINGS THE AUDIENCE CHEERING TO ITS FEET AND ROARING ITS APPROVAL’ (THE DAILY MAIL). The superb score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True.
