The history of Athelhampton covers more than 500 years. The house is in private ownership and is lovingly maintained and still lived in today. The house dates from 1485 and is a magnificent example of early Tudor architecture and shows fascinating interiors with heraldic glass, linenfold panelling and antique furnishings. The Grade 1 listed gardens surround the main house. The formal Gardens were built in 1891 with Elizabethan style ham stone courts. The famous 30 foot high pyramids dominate the Great Court. Water forms a recurring theme, with pools, fountains and the River Piddle running through the grounds. A 15th century dovecote still houses dozens of white doves.
To enhance your visit to the house and gardens we have a delightful visitor centre with shop, reception, the Topiary and Long Hall restaurants, bar and toilet facilities. For the disabled visitor we have a manual wheelchair available for use and suitable toilets. In the house, the Great Hall, Great Chamber, and Green Parlour are on one level, with the exception of a couple of very small steps, providing access to the most interesting rooms in the house. The majority of the gardens are accessible for disabled visitors however in order to avoid a number of steps, we can provide you with a suggested wheelchair route around the grounds.
9GNN RNCPPGF HTQO CTTKXCN VQ FGRCTVWTG Planning your visit is very important and we work hard to ensure that your day with us is delightful. When you arrive we will greet your group, take payment and issue your tickets in the visitor reception. We suggest you allow around two to three hours to view the house and gardens, plus any time for refreshments. Our Topiary restaurant is open to other visitors and the public. We also offer private dining which is invaluable for groups on a schedule. We can offer a £1.00 discount off our group rate when you pre-book coffee, lunch or afternoon tea from our group catering menu.

The House and Gardens, naturally get busy in peak times, mid week from May to August, and therefore for the comfort of all our visitors we limit the number of groups on site on these days. If you would prefer a quiet day, then please call us and we can advise you on the best days to visit. You may wish to visit us beforehand to ensure that we are a suitable venue for your visit, if so please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange a suitable time.
