The Athenry Past & Present booklet was first published in 2014 and it represents the conservation work carried out on the defensive walls and towers since 2008.
The initial Conservation & Management plan which was commissioned in 2008 identified numerous concerns for the conservation and preservation of the medieval walls and towers of Athenry. These works commenced in 2009 with the South East & Northwest Towers and has progressed to southeast and northwest walls. The work is continuing with the North Gate and south wall of the town.
During preparation of groundworks for a new roundabout, the town was gifted a new archaeological feature, the town's Loro Gate. In 2013, the area was landscaped to enhance and promote the remains of the gate and a monument was erected to illustrate its location within the medieval town.
