The design intends to provide housing for enviornmental activists, The built form is made to look robust to achieve the character of the users themselves by using strong lines and offsets. Communal spaces are provided for their congregations and also to improve the sense of neighbouhood. The built form is oriented in a way that the communal spaces get enough view to the parks outside which in return activates these spaces. Each of the flats in the building gets enough of green extended spaces or a deck to celebrate the outdoor.

VERTICAL STUDIOS. CAMPUS FOR ART SCHOOL. SEMESTER 6.

STUDIO BRIEF.

To design an art institute for undergraduate and post-graduate students of various fields of art fromfine arts and sculpting to graphics and animation Climate- hot and dry Location- Bidar, Karnataka, India Site Type- sloping (1:10) Site Area- 2 acres (87,000sq.ft.) Total Built Area- 6,500 m2 (70,000sq.ft.) -Undergraduate and Post-graduate studios for each departments -Administration -Exhibition space -Common area

DESIGN INTENT. The basic idea was derived as an answer to the question ‘should the studio / classrooms be seperated with respect to the batches or branches?’ as an answer the studios are relooked as a spaces of absorbing and emisson of knowledge which should not be encased but should be used to the fullest. The studios are placed in a way that there is visual relation between each studio and also maximised circulation through studios so that just the walk is a part of learning. Finally these studios should be felt as one single space to achieve vertical connection with respect to different batches and branches for better interaction and learning.

spaces used by different batches and branches are put together in one space for better connection and learning

area required for each branch is onsidered and diveded in a way to achieve better section and movemement along them

library is tried to be designed as the element in the campus to attract readers and non readers

the mass is scooped out wherever there are trees to get good reading spaces

Insects are crucial components of many ecosystems, where they perform many important functions. They aerate the soil, pollinate blossoms, and control insect and plant pests. Many insects, especially beetles, are scavengers, feeding on dead animals and fallen trees, thereby recycling nutrients back into the soil. As decomposers, insects help create top soil, the nutrient-rich layer of soil that helps plants grow. Burrowing bugs, such as ants and beetles, dig tunnels that provide channels for water, benefiting plants. Bees, wasps, butterflies, and ants pollinate flowering plants (Figure below). Gardeners love the big-eyed bug and praying mantis because they control the size of certain insect populations, such as aphids and caterpillars, which feed on new plant growth. Finally, all insects fertilize the soil with the nutrients from their droppings. Importance of Insects to man: a. For food. Many insects are consumed as food by humans. b. For medicine: Poison from spiders, scorpions is used in chronic pain relief and also to treat muscular dystrophy. c. For silk cloth: Silk from silkworm is an expensive fiber. This fiber is used in making beautiful clothing material. The industry which relies on this is called as agriculture. d. For lac production. Lac is produced from lac insect. This lac is used in making toys, paints and other valuable products. Importance of Insects in agriculture: a. For pollination: Insects get attracted by flowers and reach them to suck nectar. In doing so, the pollen grains from flowers (male gametes) get attached to them. When they visit next flower, these pollen are shed. Thus they help in cross pollination of plants in agriculture. Thus they help in improving the yield of crops.importance of insects b. Pest control: Insects like lady bugs eat up aphids and other insect larva which grow on crops. Thus these lady bugs act as pest killers to save the crop from destruction. c. Honey: Some farmers even rare honey bees to produce honey in their farms. Thus growing honey bees will increase the revenue of the farmers.

*personal collection of butterflies

Importance of Insects to environment: a. Pollination: Like in agriculture, insects help in cross pollination of plants in environment. b. Scavengers: Many insects eat up or carry away dead and decaying matter. Thus they consume them and clear of any waste matter from the environment. Ex: antsfood insects c. Food for other animals: Many insects live on grass and plants for food. But in-turn they become prey to many birds, amphibians, fishes, lizards and other animals. Thus they act to supply food to the members of food chain. Hence we can notice that during or around rainy season, many insects reproduce and multiply a lot. At the same time, many birds go for hatching their young ones. This time is ver suitable as the mother bird can feed its babies with vastly available insects.

PROGRAM -Conservation of insects in an artificial habitat and in labs -Making insects adapt to the urban scenario -Researching on the advantages and disadvantages of insects -Learning and teaching of ecology of insects -Concentration on taxonomy of insects -Creating awarnes among the people about the importance of insects in the ecosystem -Basic interactive learning for public -Brief of other endangered species -Brief on the local species

TODDLES. FURNITURE FOR CHILDREN SEMESTER 7.

STUDIO BRIEF. To design a furniture or a product for any particular user group

DESIGN INTENT. The design intends to make a furniture for kids, which would give them enough flexibilty to use it as a seating but mostly as a playing product where they can go crazy yet be contained within a space. The design acts as a multifunctional furniture which would be used by kids and also turn into an installation when not in use

The furniture should allow the kids to do various activities

climbing being one important activity in this furniture to nurture their physical abilities

the grid is worked out in and pivote seating is installed to achieve interaction with the furniture

The grid is wored out where seating being the important element and and the usage of the same brings in various dynamics to the furniture which would completely depend upon children ,how they would use it
