Q: I am more of a “shower” person. Why should I invest in a tub? A: It’s important for your relaxation, health and well-being to take time for yourself. It’s been proven that soaking in a tub not only reduces stress but also reduces anxiety, alleviates stiffness, eliminates toxins and stimulates the immune system.

Commercial insect repellents can contain up to 25% of the chemical DEET. If you’re concerned about its potential toxic effects, especially on children, ward off insects by planting Lemongrass or Citrosa Geranium, both of which produce an insect-repelling scent when their leaves are rubbed or crushed. lpharetta resident Matt Prewett knows how to save you space. Lots of space. He’s one of those rare people who, when confronted with a disorderly room crammed with junk, doesn’t turn away but can envision its transformation into a functional, eye-catching, wellplanned area. He isn’t just determined to create order out of your stuff, he envisions ways to create a storage thing of beauty in the process. When asked how he’d like to be referred to, he says he considers himself a “closeteer,” explaining that he strives to transform a client’s living and storage spaces into functional, calming places for them. Prewett has built a successful career designing creative storage solutions for his clients—everything from high-end custom closets to kid-friendly clutter cleanups to get-it-done garage gear game-changers. His grandfather before him had the woodworking knack, which he passed on to his son, who then got started in the closet-making business in the late 1980s in North Carolina. Prewett and his brother began working with their father in the family closet

business as teenagers. Over the years, he has done it all—from sweeping floors to driving trucks, learning each facet of the business. “I’ve worked in production, installed, designed, sold and managed,” Matt says, ultimately becoming the manager of SpaceMakers Closets here in 2013. He relates that one of his favorite closet projects was one that took up almost 500 square feet in a condo and cost six figures to complete. “It had all the bells and whistles—exotic Mahogany wood cabinetry with soft-close dovetail drawers and integrated LED lighting that was dimmable. They didn’t just want a safe built in, we actually made secret, hidden panels throughout the closet that concealed our client’s custom jewelry organizers. Now, that was a fun project!” He explains that his goal with every client is “to create a comforting, soothing place to get ready in the morning or kick off your shoes at night. Prewett lives in Alpharetta with his two boys, Nate, 12, and Daniel, 9. “Alpharetta is an upbeat, affluent, family-focused community that provides an amazing place to live and work,” he enthuses. “I love the focus on parks and recreation, intelligently planned infrastructure and community services with an emphasis on active lifestyles. I’m looking forward to raising my family and working here for years to come. And I hope my sons choose to follow in my footsteps and make this a fourthgeneration closet company!” The residential growth and booming realestate market of northern Fulton County and South Forsyth reflects the desirability of that area.
PREWETT THINKS OUTSIDE THE BOX WHEN CLIENTS WANT TO REINVENT ANY TYPE OF STORAGE SPACE, LIKE THIS STYLISH BAR AND ENTERTAINMENT AREA.
When out of the office, Prewett can be found browsing the merchandise at Alpharetta Outfitters or REI and dining with friends at Avalon. Summertime means trips up to Lake Lanier or mountain biking. He and his boys explore the Big Creek Greenway with their chocolate Labrador (and his company’s mascot), Sampson. “This is the perfect place to live, work and play that I can imagine,” he proclaims. “It’s a good place to call home.”

Matt’s Go-To SpaceSaving Tips 1 Make use of wasted space. Use corner shelves in a walk-in closet for a great way to take advantage of “dead” space and store out-of-season items, like blankets or boots.
2
Now you see it, now you don’t. Find a place to install a pullout mirror. Wall space won’t be lost by hanging a full-length mirror—just pull out the mirror and push it away when you’re done. Make a case for baskets. “Many times, you don’t need a drawer for storage; items like folded clothing and linens can benefit from the breathing space and fresh air provided by storage in wire baskets.” They’re also great for keeping smaller items up off the floor.

STAYING ORGANIZED CAN NEVER START TOO EARLY—HERE, A LITTLE GIRL’S CLOSET IS TRANSFORMED INTO AN ATTRACTIVE, FUNCTIONAL SPACE.
Matt Prewett considers himself a problem-solver: “I love working with clients—that daily interaction with people is so rewarding. But I think I’m best at problem-solving. Taking a small space and making it work in all sorts of ways is a lot of fun.”

Like most Alpharetta residents, Molly and her family are thrilled with all the changes happening around them. “We’ve been in the area for close to 25 years. We initially moved here for our careers;
however, the combination of affordability, great schools and a wonderful quality of life led us to settle in. In just the past few years, this area has exploded on the cultural, culinary and lifestyle scene, and more is on the horizon,” Molly says. ”It’s all happening in our backyard, which is so exciting!” As a Flywheel Avalon instructor, Molly spends most of her time in the Avalon area, shopping at Lululemon and Athleta or enjoying the local restaurants. “It’s the best thing to happen to Alpharetta—they truly have it all!” Elsewhere around Alpharetta, Molly can be found at Lift Yoga or “enjoying a glass of wine on the deck with family and friends.” And, of course, recharging her mojo.

Molly wasn’t always an adventurer. Not by a long shot. Years ago, Molly had a thriving career as an advertising executive and scaled back to start a family. When it came time to lose her stubborn postpregnancy weight, she committed to working with a trainer and discovered a new passion, “It eventually inspired me to get my training certification.” Now, Molly specializes in boot-camp instruction, speed

California girl Kim Saunders landed in Alpharetta when a job transferred her here over 20 years ago. She instantly fell in love with the area, swayed by the people and lifestyle. Now, she’s helping keep Alpharetta “in balance” with classes at her popular Lift Yoga Studio.
Q
Describe the “personality” of your Alpharetta.
Q
What led you to practice yoga and then make it your career?
My Alpharetta is flexible, healthy and vibrant, just like the people who come to Lift!
Growing up in California, fitness and yoga were fairly mainstream. My philosophy has always

Lift is where “strength meets serenity.” I believe that our bodies need to be strong, yet flexible; and with our super-busy lives, we also need to learn to take time out to exhale, to unwind our nervous system. Some of our classes are super-calming, so you can recharge your batteries and nurture your spirit. But some will kick your butt, too!
What kind of future do you envision for Alpharetta?
I’d love to see even more focus on the vibrancy of both our city and our citizens—with continued growth toward establishing parks, walkways, greenways, farmers’ markets, healthy restaurants and community events. When I first moved here from San Diego, I could not believe how unbelievably green it is—experiencing the four seasons was new for me. That may sound funny to someone who grew up here, but I still am in awe of how green and lush it is here, and I love to spend time outside.

From a California Beach to Southern Peach!
I LOVE Alpharetta!
Q
When family and friends come to visit, where do you take them to show them around?
Can’t miss Avalon, for sure! And I love South Main Kitchen, Salt, Pure and Made as well. Heck, there are too many great restaurants to list them all here. The horse farms are always a conversation piece, and a day drive to the mountains is a breath of fresh air, too.
H
ow do you relax and unwind? Where can we find you on a lazy afternoon?
Yoga and nature are what I love! My family loves to go
to the North Georgia mountains and Lake Chatuge as often as we can. The wineries in North Georgia are also a lot of fun and several of my favorites are Montaluce, The Cottage and Yonah Mountain Vineyard.

incorporated a mind–body approach to wellness. I began learning yoga when I was 13 years old but didn’t make it my career until I was in my 30s. By then, I had “retired” from the corporate world and had also become a licensed counselor. I love combining these healthy aspects to help people feel great about themselves and give them renewed energy and enthusiasm for life.
