By Wyndi Kappes
After immigrating from Peru to Georgia 21 years ago, Gulliana Lizano Goehring worked her way up from a paralegal to become a managing partner and trial attorney at the Fry | Goehring law rm. The busy mom of four is continually striving to be her best for her family, clients, animals in need and her Johns Creek community—and her best is making all the difference.
Q: What inspires you to get up every morning?
Gulliana Goehring: I am very fortunate to have a career that I love and a healthy family, and being grateful for that inspires me every morning. When my mom passed away, one of the many lessons she left with me was that life and health are gifts that cannot be taken for granted. I try to live that out in her honor.
Q: What piece of advice has stuck with you throughout your career?
GG: An attorney friend once told me, “You can have it all, but it may not be at the same time, and that is okay.” We discussed balancing work, family and, at that time, my education. I went to law school in Peru, so when I moved to the United States at 21, I had to start over. I always felt behind on my goals in life, but I had to let that insecurity go and focus more on what I had accomplished. I then realized the rest would come in time.
Q: What is your favorite way to give back to the Johns Creek community?\
GG: My family and I started volunteering with Angels Among Us Pet Rescue in 2015. Since then, we have fostered over 100 dogs and cats. It is great for the kids to learn at a young age to be part of a solution and put their time and energy toward the common good. I am currently sitting on Angels Among Us’ advisory board and trying to nd ways to save more homeless pets and nd more foster homes.
Q: What is your favorite book?
GG: “The Alchemist,” by Paulo Coelho, reminds us to never give up and that someday we will make it through our challenges and ultimately reach our life goals. I read that book with my sister, Yannina, and my mom. We were very close, and because our mom is no longer with us, this book brings a lot of warm memories of my childhood.
Q: What are your favorite places in Johns Creek?
GG: My favorite restaurant is Pampas. It is an Argentinian Steakhouse located in Johns Creek. frygoehring.com, angelsrescue.org
