andy Springs chose Mayor Rusty Paul as much as he chose it. Nearly 25 years ago when
he and his family moved back to the Atlanta metro area from Washington, D.C., Eva Galambos, who would become the city’s first mayor, rang him minutes after his phone was installed. She invited him to join the effort to make Sandy Springs a stand-alone city. And the Birmingham native, who was sworn in as the second mayor of Sandy Springs in 2014, hasn’t stopped serving his adopted hometown since. Top of mind for Mayor Paul is the multimillion-dollar development, City Springs. The 15-acre community, which is bordered by Roswell Road, Mt. Vernon Highway, Sandy Springs Circle, and Johnson Ferry Road, is slated for a 2018 completion.

“Sandy Springs is a suburban community that evolved without a lot of planning,” Paul explains. “In most cities you have a town square,” he says. “Sandy Springs had none of that.” Adding, “City Springs is our effort at going back and recreating that town square, if you will. We have two theaters, a performing arts center, and a smaller 400-seat theater that will double as City Council chambers,” he says.

or most Atlantans, the name Chuck Wolf has long been linked to photography. For decades, Wolf based his massive, national Wolf Camera franchise out of his adopted hometown of Atlanta. Yet, the advent of digital technology permanently altered that business and by 2003, Wolf shifted his focus, transferring his deep understanding of branding strategy into a new industry. He went on to establish WolfBone Marketing.

What’s more, he saw a glaring void in the marketplace. He could see that people were taking more pictures than ever before. But, those digital photos were staying inside their cameras and phones or saved on their computers. Printing them out to display meant relying on the limited capabilities of a desktop home printer or ordering prints from an online photo service with no idea what the final image would really look like until after delivery.

But, he missed his former trade. He missed the people and the stories shared with him through their images. He wanted to get back to his true passion.

Wolf wanted to bring a personal touch back to the photo service industry. “These [pictures] are important. This is personal. These are memories,” says Chuck Wolf, owner of Wolf Photo Design Bar, and founder of Wolf Camera. So, in 2014, he established Wolf Photo Design Bar to do just that, giving customers an actual brick-andmortar location where creativity is sparked from the minute they walk inside. The entire space showcases examples of captivating projects all produced with clients’ own photos and all completed right there in house. And that’s the whole point. “We want to bring people in here and show them what they can really do,” says Wolf.
When he’s not building his business, Wolf can be spotted all over town. “I play golf at least once a week, and I Iike to go to see the Braves or Falcons play, too.” Wolf also enjoys concerts at Chastain [Park Amphitheatre] Kitchen. “When I first moved down here from and dining at Rumi’s Kitchen Washington, D.C. in 1975, I lived in Sandy Springs. F
or Tom Mahaffey, after spending the majority of his career in banking, serving as the Sandy Springs Perimeter Chamber of Commerce president/CEO since February 2011 has been an absolute dream. “I have been fortunate to meet all of our business and political leaders and often take part in their business decisions to expand and relocate into Sandy Springs,” Mahaffey says. “There are so many different committees and programs the Chamber provides, and it has been exciting to have a hand in creating some of these programs and events.”
He lives in Sandy Springs with his four children from late wife, Donna Adams Mahaffey. In 2016, the Chamber established a scholarship fund in her name at North Springs Charter High School and Riverwood International Charter School. Upon retirement, he plans to relocate to a small city in Croatia. “There is a lot of beauty there,” Mahaffey says.

What have been the biggest changes in the business landscape of Sandy Springs over the past few years?
The City of Sandy Springs works with the new businesses and developers moving into our community to create the type of environment that the city and residents would like to have. Because of everyone working together, it has become a “friendly place to do business.” The city has created a system that allows the developers to follow the progress of their permit and be notified if there are issues.

What would you like people to know about the Chamber? The Sandy
Springs Perimeter Chamber is ideally located in the heart of the Central Perimeter business market and is very accessible to our corporate partners. The Chamber supports companies of all sizes in Sandy Springs, and vice versa. It is often mistaken as only being for “big companies,” but about 80 percent of our members are small companies with less than 50 employees.
Q
What are your favorite things to do in Sandy Springs? I try to visit and support as many of our local restaurants as possible. I go to Hammocks Trading Company for its grouper tacos and Kaiser’s Chophouse is becoming a favorite. I also enjoy walking at Chastain Park. We have a lot of nice places to dine and shop. Sandy Springs is becoming a go-to destination for dining, competing with Dunwoody, Brookhaven, Buckhead, and Alpharetta. SandySpringsPerimeterChamber.com

Mahaffey gets the chance to travel the globe representing the Chamber, most recently making trips to China, Israel, and India. “The Consulate General of India and staff have a Southeast Regional office in Sandy Springs and have been an active part of our community for several years,” Mahaffey says.
