Spring 2020 Highlights for KSU College of the Arts
Students, faculty, and guest performers are preparing for a Spring semester full of performances, exhibitions, and research forums spanning all departments in the college. From special guest speakers and performances in music, theatre, and dance, to festivals in theatre as well as art and design, Kennesaw State University’s (KSU) College of the Arts (COTA) will impress patrons of all artistic interests.
The Department of Dance welcomes Terminus Modern Ballet Theatre and their production “Modern Myths,” an evening of neo-classical ballet inspired by the legends of Greek mythology, on March 6-7. Next, original student works from the 2019-2020 academic year will be highlighted in the Student Dance Concert on April 24-25.
The School of Music (SOM) at KSU has a jam-packed semester of performances, starting with the 14th annual Collage Concert on February 15. Showcasing soloists, chamber groups, and ensembles represented by over 200 SOM students, this performance is one of the SOM’s major fundraising events of the academic year. Special guest performances include Afro-Cuban jazz artist Brenda Navarrete on March 21 and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra on April 17. Patrons will also find many faculty and student performances throughout the semester including various ensembles and chamber groups covering several genres that are sure to impress.
Students in the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies (TPS) will be flexing their acting, design, and production skills with several performances over the course of the Spring semester. In March, plan to see Shakespeare in an entirely different way: the Q Brothers will bring their wildly popular “Othello: the Remix” to the Stillwell Theater March 12-14. Shakespeare himself would have relished this original work fusing hip hop and classic theatre. Patrons will see students, faculty, and alumni perform in several works during the New Works and Ideas Festival April 8-19, including “Thumbelina,” “Ex Nihilio: Cosmogenic Puppet Show,” and “Musical Theatre Cabaret.”
With options spanning many disciplines, patrons will find many events and performances to enjoy over the course of the Spring semester. For more information on these events and more, visit www.arts.kennesaw.edu and ticketing. www.kennesaw.edu to purchase tickets. 22
