Sports

Many Middlesex County municipalities and schools use the athletic fields and courts in our County parks to conduct their sports programs. By providing these sites for their use, the County is able to extend the opportunity to participate in organized sports to the largest possible number of our residents.

Golf Courses

The three Middlesex County Golf Courses are owned by the Middlesex County Improvement Authority. They are:

Tamarack Golf Course

97 Hardenburg Lane East Brunswick, New Jersey (732) 821-8881/8884

Tamarack features two 18-hole championship golf courses located on Hardenburg Lane in East Brunswick which were designed by Hal Purdy. The East (Gold and Blue) course is a 6,226-yard, par-71 course with five par-3 holes, nine par-4s and four par-5s. The West (Red and White) course is a 7,025-yard, par-72 championship course featuring four par-3 holes, 10 par-4s and four par-5s. The driving range features 34 stalls and five target greens.

70 Hunters Glen Dr. Plainsboro, New Jersey (609) 799-4000

The Meadows at Middlesex is an 18-hole, 6,290 yard, par 70 championship course, located in Plainsboro. This beautifully kept bent grass course was designed by Joe Finger in 1972, finished in 1980 by Tom Fazio, and purchased by the MCIA in early 1999. The Meadows features six par-3 holes, four par-5s and eight par-4s. Perfect for hosting outings.

Raritan Landing Golf Course

491 Sidney Road

Piscataway, New Jersey 08854 (732) 885-9600

The MCIA’s 3,400-yard, family-style golf course in Piscataway opened on October 1, 1999 and offers players a premium on shot making and accuracy. With its small greens and narrow fairway, Raritan Landing can provide a true test for all golfers. It was constructed by the MCIA and designed by Stephen Kay. Raritan Landing, located on county-owned property near the Raritan River in Piscataway, is a par-58 course, consisting of 14 par-3 holes and four par-4 holes, with the longest hole approximately 350 yards in length. The course’s natural features include a pond and two creeks.

HIKING OPPORTUNITIES IN MIDDLESEX COUNTY’S PARKS AND OPEN SPACE PRESERVES

Middlesex County maintains many miles of walking and hiking trails on countyowned property. Trails include paved pathways around the lake in Roosevelt Park, and the rocky trail along Farrington Lake, and the sandy Pine Barrens trails in Phillips Park and Preserve. Visitors may find hiking locations that are suitable for families with small children, for novice hikers, or for more experienced trekkers who are looking for nearby day-hikes.

Hiking is an inexpensive and easy way to stay healthy. The American Hiking Society states that even low-intensity hiking can promote weight loss, reduce risk from heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension and can improve mental health.

Middlesex County Parks are open from sunrise to sunset, 7 days per week.
