IMPROVING BRAIN HEALTH & REDUCING THE SCALE AND IMPACT OF DEMENTIA The Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI) is a leader in the global community dedicated to protecting the world’s aging populations from threats to brain health. Dementia is rapidly increasing around the world. By 2050, the number of people with dementia could triple from 50 million to 152 million, overwhelming families, communities, public health care systems, and economies worldwide. Research shows that up to 40% of these cases could be prevented by addressing risk factors and social determinants of health. Preventing, or even delaying, dementia symptoms helps families and societies live healthier, richer lives. GBHI works to reduce the scale and impact of dementia in three ways: by training and connecting the next generation of leaders in brain health through the Atlantic Fellows for Equity in Brain Health program; by collaborating in expanding preventions and interventions; and by sharing knowledge and engaging in advocacy. Atlantic Fellowship for Equity in Brain Health • 12-month, full-time, paid residential fellowship based at GBHI at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in the United States and Trinity College Dublin (Trinity) in Ireland. • Common program structure enriched by the unique aspects and expertise of the two founding sites. • Core curriculum of neurology, health economics, epidemiology, law and ethics, leadership, public policy, creativity, and statistics. • Access to a network of world-class researchers, clinicians, artists, and policy makers for career-duration collaborations. Lifelong Fellowship After the fellowship, fellows contribute to a growing community of courageous and transformative leaders, from seven interconnected Atlantic Fellows programs, who are inspiring positive change around the world. GBHI is committed to promoting and supporting this lifelong fellowship community through growth and leadership opportunities such as capacity building, mentoring, in-person and remote programs and events, information resources, funding opportunities, community calls, and opportunities for collaborative projects.

Training and Connecting the Next Generation of Brain Health Leaders The Atlantic Fellows program at GBHI is providing innovative training, networking, and accompaniment to hundreds of global leaders across the world to promote brain health and dementia prevention, reduce stigma, and improve the lives of people living with dementia. GBHI supports value-based leadership in science, medicine, arts, the humanities, and policy to improve dementia care and advance brain health. Through the Atlantic Fellows for Equity in Brain Health program, GBHI brings together a powerful mix of disciplines, diverse skills and perspectives. The work of the Atlantic Fellows at GBHI is focused on developing new solutions for the issues of brain health and dementia in disadvantaged populations through projects and initiatives that directly tackle social determinants of health and socio-economic inequities.
