We’re creating the future of healthcare through life-changing technologies and products that make you healthier and stronger, quickly identify when you have a medical need, and treat conditions to help you get back to doing what you love.
Abbott in Ireland
Abbott employs 5000 people across Ireland, in ten sites based in all four provinces.
Abbott products manufactured in Ireland are now exported to more than 130 countries. The Engineers on our team, like everyone at Abbott, make a difference everyday working together to help people around the world live healthier and better, at all ages and stages of life.
Abbott & STEM
We are passionate about supporting young people and education. The future of healthcare and the future of our country will rely upon the innovation, creativity and imagination of the next generation of scientists and engineers.
This passion has led Abbott employees to deliver more than 80,000 volunteer hours to good causes across the country over the past decade.
We created the ASPIRE with Abbott event series to celebrate the power of STEM education. Across the country we are keen supporters of many other projects, including The Sligo Engineering Fair, that help young people to understand the many exciting career pathways that start with STEM education. Energy for the Future
Main Concourse Drop in - All Day
Energy is one of the most important topics for humanity in the coming decades and is a key area where the Engineer of tomorrow can make a difference. The engineer of tomorrow will be assessing new and efficient methods of energy creation, developing methods of energy re-use and storage, and helping minimise consumption of energy, all while seeking to minimise societal and environmental impacts.
Areas of interest are in all the engineering disciplines such as mechanical (generation, energy transfer), civil and building (heating, efficiency, insulation) , electrical (storage, efficient transfer), and new materials (storage, energy generation), even down to computer and mathematical modelling and development.
Undergraduates in ATU Sligo are taught the basics of energy generation, refrigeration and heat pumps, heat transfer, gas and air cycles and other essentials to provide a sound background for the next generation of energy engineers. Researchers in ATU Sligo are studying energy efficient heat transfer, via 3D printing of metal devices, and the development of high performance coatings and novel materials.
Engineers Without Borders
A fairer distribution of energy globally is also key for the future. EWB-Ireland is a group of Irish engineers and scientists dedicated to bridging the gap between academia, industry and NGOs to give opportunities to learn about and contribute to sustainable development globally. Our mission is to partner with disadvantaged communities to improve their quality of life through education and sustainable engineering projects.
For more information on the branch in ATU Sligo contact Gerard McGranaghan: gerard.mcgranaghan@atu.ie, or look up www.ewb-ireland.org

Come and try crushing tins and squashing plastic toys, balancing bricks and penguins on a see-saw, testing your strength and even lifting the world, at Fire the Inventor’s interactive stall.
How? By using the incredible power of levers, of course. The hands-on demonstration machines and activities show how levers increase your strength and can make you laugh. And all the while leveraging some scientific thinking about how they work.
Lower Canteen (8+ years) 12.30, 1.30, 2.30 & 3.30pm
Build a prototype model fan-powered car. Test the prototype to establish a benchmark performance and then access to a wide range of different components with which to improve the performance of their cars. Each session ends with a competition to find the ‘best’ car!
Max 35 persons per session – Pre-book your place at sligoengineeringfair.ie
12.00, 1.00, 2.00, 3.00 & 4.00pm
Come along and join Bricks 4 Kidz and their fun and challenging workshop and explore engineering through using LEGO®, Technic & Robotics. The Engineering Fair & Engineers Week provide a unique opportunity for primary students to learn about engineering and together with Bricks 4 Kidz, you can help us build the engineers of tomorrow. LEGO® based education programmes have proven to be a very effective method of introducing engineering concepts to school age children and a Bricks 4 Kidz engineering workshop provides children of all ages with a fun and educational way to develop their understanding of engineering principles though building dragsters, roller coasters, buildings and much much more using our specially designed Lego® Technic kits.

The SCORE PROJECT
Main Concourse Drop in - All Day
The overall aim of SCORE is to design, develop, monitor and validate robust adaptation measures in coastal and low-lying areas to protect them from increasing climate and sea level risks, including coastal flooding and erosion, to enhance their overall long-term resilience.
SCORE outlines a co-creation strategy, developed via a network of 10 coastal city ‘living labs’ (CCLLs), to rapidly, equitably and sustainably enhance coastal city climate resilience through EcosystemBased Approach (EBAs) and sophisticated digital technologies. Come along to our interactive stand at the fair to find out more.

Aim
Main Concourse
Drop in - All Day
The AIM Centre is at the forefront of advancing technology for manufacturing and supply chain; supporting businesses in the northwest of Ireland stay competitive, increase productivity and grow the region’s economic impact.
We help businesses navigate challenges like
• How can we use technologies like AI and machine learning to improve product quality?
• Which manufacturing processes offer the biggest return on investment to modernise with technology?
• How can we prepare our workforce to embrace new technologies?
• How can we transform our manufacturing lines to be more circular?
• How can we use data to bring more agility into our supply chain to reduce disruption?
In addition to our advisory services, the AIM Exchange - in partnership with Skillnet - provides access to events and training programmes that equip employees with the skills they need to innovate, negotiate, lead, and deliver.
We’re also home to the AIM Academy; a centre for 2nd level students to immerse in creativity, innovation, and technology.
