ANNUAL SURVEY SHOWS DISTRIBUTOR BUSINESS STILL GOING STRONG
Slightly less than two-thirds of distributors polled in American Coin-Op’s annual Distributors Survey say their business—including sales of newly constructed vended laundries and replacement business—was better in 2016 compared to 2015. And a larger percentage of respondents projects that 2017 sales will surpass those of 2016’s.
Do you know where the industry is trending in terms of equipment, such as the average number of top loaders, front loaders and dryer pockets installed in newly constructed stores? And are store owners opting for smaller, more manageable stores, or are vended laundries taking up more real estate, on average?
Let our in-depth report assist you in breaking down these trends, and more, as we analyze 2016 distributor business.

ADVISORY BOARD
Kurt Archer Ann Hawkins
In early fall, the staff of American Coin-Op, along with the other publications in the American Trade Magazines family, meets to plan editorial calendars for the following year.
This calendar lays out a schedule of primary features and other special content aimed at stimulating readers and enticing industry vendors to advertise in our pages.
It’s challenging to come up with an edit plan that will produce a certain level of results a year into the future.
When we decided last fall to place the Distributors Directory in this month’s issue, our timing couldn’t have been better to assist laundries possibly damaged or even destroyed by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.
As this issue went to press in mid-September, some manufacturers and distributors were just announcing disaster relief programs, and we were starting to hear about the impact of the storms on laundries in Texas, Florida and elsewhere. It’s clear that help is on the way.
Getting things back up and running is surely the focus, but don’t try to do it alone. There’s help available from the companies listed in our annual Distributors Directory.
These firms are listed alphabetically by state/province, city, then company name. When referring to the Directory, keep in mind that it lists a company only in a state in which it maintains an office. Service areas sometimes extend beyond state borders, so take a regional approach when searching for a distributor.
Distributors, if you discover that your business isn’t listed this year, it’s possible that we couldn’t verify your information. E-mail your company name, address, phone number and a contact name to admin@americantrademagazines.com and we’ll get you added to our online Distributors Directory, the feeder for our print edition.
We’ll continue to monitor the areas hit by Harvey and Irma and present laundry industry news from there when it becomes available. We, like everyone else, are eager to help.

4 AMERICAN COIN-OP OCTOBER 2017
www.americancoinop.com VIEWPOINT
Bruce Beggs
By Bruce Beggs, Editorial Director
While the share of distributors reporting their business had improved year-to-year was down slightly, the results of American Coin-Op’s annual Distributors Survey illustrates that business remains quite strong. The majority polled once again enjoyed better business than the previous year, and is expecting overall 2017 sales to surpass those of 2016.
Slightly less than two-thirds of distributors polled (63.6%) say that business—including sales of newly constructed vended laundries and replacement business—was better in 2016 compared to 2015.
When it comes to sales projections, a slightly larger share (64.4%) believes 2017 sales will be better than 2016’s.
Just 13.6% of respondents say their 2016 business was worse than 2015’s, while 22.7% say that business has stayed the same.
Distributors listed in the previous edition of the American Coin-Op Distributors Directory were invited to participate in this year’s unscientific survey, which charts 2016 business and makes comparisons to previous years. In this summary report, percentages may not add up to 100% due to rounding.
2016 BUSINESS
This year, 63.6% of distributors who were polled said business was better in
Majority of Distributors Says Business Remains
2016 than 2015. That’s down slightly from last year’s report in which 67.4% of distributors said 2015 business was better than 2014’s. In the 2015 survey, 68.3% of respondents said 2014 business was better than 2013’s.
Those who described their business in 2016 as “better” attributed their performance to a stronger economy; the attractiveness of energy-efficient equipment; store owners desiring to replace outdated machines; businesspeople looking to start vended laundry operations as investment opportunities; and hiring additional sales and installation staff, among other reasons.
The minority whose business suffered in 2016 said factors like increasing water/ sewer costs, impact fees, higher rents, and manufacturers selling direct to consumers in their territory took a toll on their performance.
REPLACEMENT BUSINESS
Roughly 62% of distributors say their replacement business was up in 2016 compared to 2015. This is comparable to last year’s survey in which approximately 64% of distributors reported better 2015to-2014 replacement business. It’s well behind the 73.2% who saw their replacement business increase in 2014 from 2013.
Roughly 7% of respondents say they saw 2016 replacement business decrease from that of 2015, while 31% say it remained unchanged.
NEW-LAUNDRY CONSTRUCTION
American Coin-Op asked distributors how many new vended laundries they built and/or supplied equipment to in 2016.
In the survey, the share of distributors that built and/or supplied equipment to three or fewer stores was fairly balanced
with the share that did the same to four or more stores. Companies building or supplying equipment to three or fewer new laundries in 2016 accounted for 48.8% of the total. In comparison to previous surveys, that number was 40.5% in 2015, 69.2% in 2014, and 54% in 2013.
Companies building or supplying equipment to four or more new laundries in 2016 accounted for 51.2% of the total. In 2015, that number was 59.5%.
The actual number of new laundries that distributors were involved with in some way in 2016 ranged from just a single store to one respondent reporting his/ her company dealt with 174 stores.
Following is a rundown of the most popular answers from this year’s survey: 1) 2 2) 5 3) 1, 3 and 4 (tie)
One-third of distributors surveyed (33.3%) said their new-construction total for 2016 was higher than the previous year. Comparing to previous surveys, approximately 35% said their newconstruction business was up for 2015; roughly 48% said it was up for 2014; and approximately 39% said it was up for 2013.
Roughly 38% of distributors surveyed said their new-construction total for 2016 remained the same as 2015. That compares to approximately 41% of distributors reporting no change in 2015 from 2014, roughly 38%

change in 2014 from 2013, and 43.9% reporting no change in 2013 from 2012.
Roughly 29% of distributors said their new-construction total was lower in 2016 than in 2015, which is up from the roughly 24% who reported lower new-construction totals in 2015 from 2014. Earlier surveys showed 15% with lower totals in 2014 than in 2013, 17% with lower totals in 2013 than in 2012, and 35.3% with lower totals in 2012 than in 2011.
EQUIPMENT MIX
Since perfecting the right equipment mix is critical for a vended laundry store’s success, you must be wondering what equipment more and more store owners and distributors are installing in laundries across the country.
Here is a quick analysis of trends, according to this year’s survey results.
Nearly 46% of new stores in 2016 had at least one top loader, which is an increase from 2015’s figure of 41% but still well below 2014’s figure of 60%. Looking back further, the percentage of new stores with at least one top loader was 63% in 2013, 45% in 2012 and 58% in 2011.
Vended laundries newly built in 2016 have an average of 3.2 top loaders, compared to an average of 2.8 per new store in 2015, 4.6 in 2014 and 4.5 in 2013. (New stores with no top loaders are factored in.)
Breaking it down, following are the most popular number of top loaders installed in new stores in 2016:
1) 0
2) 6
3) 2, 8 and 12 (tie)
When it comes to front loaders, vended laundries that were newly constructed in 2016 have an average of 33.3 front loaders, a sizable increase from 2015’s average of 28.5, 2014’s average of 27.5 and 2013’s average of 26.6.
The most common number of front loaders installed in newly constructed
laundries in 2016 was:
1) 30 and 40 (tie) 3) 50 4) 20
Vended laundries that were newly constructed in 2016 have an average of 39.1 dryer pockets, a sizable increase from 2015’s average of 31.7. The average was 32.4 in 2014, 32.8 in 2013 and 30.8 in 2012, by comparison.
Following are the most common number of dryer pockets installed in newly built coin laundries in 2016:
1) 30 2) 50 3) 40
SURVEYING STORE SIZE
Are the new stores built in 2016 smaller and more manageable, or are they taking up more real estate?
The most popular store sizes, in square feet, reported in this year’s survey were: 1) 3,000 2) 3,500 3) 2,000 and 2,300 (tie)
Roughly one-fifth (20.6%) of the stores constructed in 2016 are 2,000 square feet or less, while 41.2% are between 2,001 and 3,000 square feet.
These figures compare to the 29.7% of stores measuring 2,000 square feet or less and the 47.5% covering between 2,001 and 3,000 square feet reported for 2015.
The largest newly constructed vended laundry built in 2016 covers 8,000 square feet, while the smallest measures just 500 square feet, according to survey results.
The average newly constructed vended laundry store for 2016 covers 3,132 square feet, which is by far the largest average store size in recent memory. Prior averages were 2,639 (2015), 2,696 (2014) and 2,663 (2013).
The average selling price of a newly constructed store—distributors were asked to exclude the cost of land and building— in 2016 was $558,097. This compares to $452,000 in 2015, $360,394 in 2014, and $368,214 in 2013.
NEW-STORE PROFILES OVER THE YEARS
So, how do these numbers from 2016 compare to distributor business performance in years past? Here is a quick recap of facts and figures.
The average newly constructed store in
2016 has 3.2 top loaders, 33.3 front loaders, 39.1 dryer pockets, and covers, on average, 3,132 square feet.
How does this measure up to previous survey results? Following are new-store profiles from the previous four surveys: 2015: 2.8 top loaders, 28.5 front loaders, 31.7 dryer pockets, and 2,639 square feet.
2014: 4.6 top loaders, 27.5 front loaders, 32.4 dryer pockets, and 2,696 square feet
2013: 4.5 top loaders, 26.6 front loaders, 32.8 dryer pockets, and 2,663 square feet
2012: 3.4 top loaders, 28.0 front loaders, 30.8 dryer pockets, and 2,754 square feet
OTHER BUSINESS
Distributors were also asked if their company brokers vended laundries. Roughly 34% of respondents to this year’s survey say they do, compared to 25% in 2016, 41% in 2015 and approximately 31% in 2014.
The share of distributors operating a route laundry increased ever so slightly, with 38.6% of respondents in this year’s survey saying they do. That compares to 36.2% in the 2016 survey, 52.5% in 2015 and 38.1% in 2014.
The share of distributors hosting an equipment show annually was also less, with 47.7% saying they have such plans. That figure was 57.5% in last year’s survey, and 76.9% the year before that.
DISTRIBUTOR FORECAST
How do distributors feel about 2017 overall sales? Are they positive or negative? For 64.4% of respondents, 2017 sales are expected to be better than those of 2016, while 28.9% believe they will be about the same. Just 6.8% believe that 2017 business will be worse than 2016 totals.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE AN ESD SYSTEM?
I chose ESD because of ESD’s commitment to product cutting edge technology, customer care and technical provided me with the tools with MyLaundryLinkTM my stores operations anywhere, and ESD provides payment options: card, Credit/debit card, pin based EBT. They can also start their washers or dryers with and their phone will vibrate when their washer or dryer system even allows the customer to view their account from their PC when they are away from the store.
WHAT IS YOUR EXPERIENCE IN THE LAUNDRY INDUSTRY?
I have been in the commercial laundry industry since owned retail Laundromats since 1987. I have personally ESD’s growth over the years to become the industries payment systems.
WHAT WERE THE UNKNOWN CHALLENGES THAT WITH YOUR NEW STORE AND HOW HAS ESD’S YOU OVERCOME THESE CHALLENGES?
Building a customer base, hiring and managing a managing staff of employees and security; ESD provided me with systems to manage my employees, and provide me with
product innovation, technical support. ESD software to oversee my customers with based debit cards and with a phone app, dryer stops. The account and add value
my competitors do not have…I have a totally cashless store, which gives my employees and me peace of mind and security. In addition, many other marketing and pricing options that my competitors do not have.
IS THERE ANYTHING THAT SURPRISED YOU ABOUT THE ESD SYSTEM?
I was surprised at how many customers really love the ability to use their credit or debit cards right at the machines.
HAS THERE BEEN ANY DOWNSIDE TO THE ESD SYSTEM?
INDUSTRY? since 1979 and have personally witnessed industries leader in THAT YOU FACED SYSTEM HELPED managing a good with the tools and with advantages
Absolutely not. I do not believe my store would be as successful as it has been so far without the ESD CyberLaundryTM system and the company and the people that stand behind it.

Lucky Volkenant and Fred Wilson have set the bar pretty high when it comes to over-the-top coin-op décor. Although separated by a thousand miles, the two operators are cut from the same cloth, both upstaging their rural, smalltown laundries with novel attractions.
HELLO, DOLLY!
Nothing can prepare a visitor for the spectacle of nearly 3,000 dolls suspended in a coin laundry. They’re everywhere and I mean everywhere — rag dolls, hand-sewn dolls and plastic dolls — a sight made all the more surreal with no customers around. Just Raggedy Ann and Andy, Betsy Wetsy, Cabbage Patch kids, and a toy store full of their closest friends hangin’ around at LJ’s Laundromat aka Doll World in the southern Minnesota border hamlet of Spring Grove.
Consider this: You could give away a pair to each of the town’s 1,330 residents and still have enough orphans to fill dozens of toy chests.
Part coin-op, part rummage sale, the brick storefront has hosted self-serve wash-and-dry trade for nearly half of its 135-year history and ragamuffin dolls for the past two decades.
“What’d you do with a 12-foot ceiling?” responds the bespectacled Volkenant, gesturing toward the tin backdrop behind rows of cherubic cheeks and puckered rosy-red lips. “I bought a bunch of dolls over the years and just started hanging them and progressed to over 2,700. It’s a good conversation piece and warms everything up.”

polka dot dress.
LJ’s wall-towall lifeless moppets, a few with missing appendages or malfunctioning eyelids, nearly frightened off a photographer from Twin Cities CBS affiliate WCCO-TV during filming, a memorable incident the owner recalls with a chuckle.
The exact count remains a mystery, as Volkenant stopped keeping records years ago.
“As I put ’em up, I kept track of ’em. I just say over 27 hundred now. It just makes it easier.”
Shipments from doll lovers desirous of having their huggable toys build up the collection arrive at LJ’s doorstep from time to time.
While the sheer size of the collection doesn’t tickle his Elmo, Volkenant gets his kicks when ladies drive into town and are awestruck by the display. Few doll enthusiasts making the pilgrimage have wash in mind; for most, it’s a sentimental walk down memory lane.
If the thought of all those eyes trained on you while loading skivvies into the Speed Queens is discomforting, just think how embarrassing it is to hang from a hook and have strangers peeking up your

“If they’re up there, that’s where they stay for now,” he says, noting that a separate collection of porcelain dolls are tagged for sale.
A former gas station owner, Volkenant and his wife Jean pulled up stakes 30 years ago from Waukegan, Ill., and moved west to this community best known as Minnesota’s first Norwegian settlement. For the first five years, he ran a profitable tavern but yearned to get out from behind the bar.
A neglected laundry directly across Spring Grove’s thoroughfare was his tick-
et to freedom. The coin-op occupied half of a building that once housed a haberdashery and, later, the town’s post office.
Looking for a way to break the ice with patrons, the former barkeep figured the whimsical dolls would help liven up the joint and add color to the 17 monochromatic, small-capacity front loaders and 12 dryer pockets. Little by little, his pickings from estate sales were mounted using stiff wire and hooks without any attention to defects or wardrobe malfunctions. Each remains in place and receives a pass from a Shop-Vac every four to five years to blow off lint.
Volkenant’s operation is strictly “old school.” Customers can feel free to run errands; he’ll transfer their load to the dryer or even have everything folded when they get back. Breaking bills is done
with a personal touch: “When they ask, ‘Where’s the change machine?,’ I say, ‘You’re looking at it,’” he quips, digging quarters out of his pocket.
As loads tumble away, customers are free to browse the bric-a-brac assembled in laundry aisles and the adjacent secondhand shop where 8-track tapes, right- and left-handed baseball gloves, knives, and even an autographed photo of comedian Dana Carvey are priced to sell.
VINTAGE TUBS
Fred Wilson’s washing machine museum is a true slice of Americana. His treasure trove of four dozen antique tubs may not match the capacity of the 29 front loaders on duty inside his Mineral Wells, Texas, coin laundry, but they sure can crank it out.
Finding a museum inside a coin-op isn’t the only odd thing here. First-time visitors do a double take of the bright red facia sign spelling out “The Laumdronat” — an intentional letter flip, as well as a tip of the cowboy hat to the Texas-based Kwik Wash chain and its iconic upside-down laundry logo.

The price of admission is merely a basket of dirty duds, but visitors are free to stop by and gain an appreciation of the advancements in laundry.
“Nobody should complain about washing clothes today,” says the longtime industry veteran. “It’s so much easier and better than it used to be, plus you can walk off and leave them.”
Years ago, one regular voiced his displeasure at front-loader vend pricing under the mistaken belief he was helping foot the bill for the growing roster of old collectibles by ponying up an extra quarter or two at the coin drop.
“I could lower the price of a washer,” Wilson recalls telling the patron, before advising him of the alternative. “We could get one of those hand-operated models down and you could go chop your wood, boil water, pour it in, and hand-crank it for 10 cents a load if you want.”
Empty your basket into any of Wilson Coin Laundry’s computerized washers, deposit some quarters, and stare away at clothes sloshing away. Better yet, take a stroll to a bygone era and soak in this tribute to American ingenuity.
Morning sun flooding the store adds a warm glow to the copper wash tubs without hiding weathered wooden legs and rusted fittings. The lineup of early 20th century relics extends the length of the twin back-to-back bulkheads atop purpose-built platforms near eye level.
With few exceptions, everything on display is domestic-oriented. If you’re looking for coin-op oldies but goodies, they’re still going strong behind the counter handling commercial account workloads.
▼ Wilson’s favorite vintage washer is a manual model featuring an agitator that resembles udders and is controlled by an oscillating “smooth as silk” lidmounted tongue and groove gear.
The vintage collection grew as the operator scoured the region searching for vintage tubs and hoisting them up in no chronological order. When rack space ran out 10 years ago, so did the zest for adding pieces. His only regret: not having room to showcase a 1928 tunnel

Texas laundry owner and museum curator Fred Wilson offers rows of modern equipment along with a collection tracing the washing machine’s humble roots back to the early decades of the 20th century.
washer buried at a local hotel.
Wilson’s entrée into the industry — like the washing machine museum — was happenstance. He got his feet wet in 1980 while keeping his day job as a hospital X-ray technician, but soon went all in with a partner building up a five-store chain and a burgeoning linen service route. After a buyout a decade later, he consolidated storefront and commercial laundry operations under one roof at the present Mineral Wells location.
As part of the merger, the self-service portion was relocated from one end to the other, with linen processing occupying the former coin-op. Wilson wasn’t fond of empty walls and proceeded to adorn the perimeter of the new 53-machine, 2,000-squarefoot space with roadside memorabilia complemented by assorted scrub boards and other antique wash implements picked up while running sheets and towels.
The museum was an afterthought. Stumbling upon his first wooden washer at an estate sale, it was love at first crank. But not until he plunked down $250 and showed it off back at the store did Wilson know it was just the start.
“I didn’t realize I’d go this crazy,” he chuckles. “It sort of happened.”
That first piece — a century-old wash tub needing a push, pull, and stomp to agitate — features an optional power drive by tethering the washer to a vehicle’s axle with an innovative belt-and-pulley assembly “saving Mama lots and lots of work,” the owner smiles.
Wilson says he marvels not only at the mechanical artistry, but the great strides laundering took at the beginning of the last century, progressing from cutting wood to cutting-edge.
Pointing to the circa 1910 Thor Electric — a wooden wash basket with built-in, alternating 30-second reverse tumbling — the operator is quick to point out that the techniques employed in modern coin laundry equipment had humble beginnings.
The antique Maytag motorized washer used by the owner’s late grandmother is prominently displayed and holds sentimental value. But the one tub that really tickles Wilson’s fancy is a crank unit he’s got out back featuring a wooden rotary “dolly-style” agitator resembling udders and controlled by an oscillating lid-mounted tongue and groove gear that spins “just as smooth as silk.”
Even though the hybrid Laundromat/museum continues to attract both patrons and curious alike, Wilson admits that, at age 72, he’s ready to retire and is entertaining offers on the business — lock, stock and barrel tub. ACO

SUPERIOR LAUNDRY EQUIPMENT NOW MAYTAG DISTRIBUTOR
Brooklyn, N.Y.-based distributor Superior Laundry Equipment has added Maytag Commercial Laundry® to its portfolio, offering for sale Maytag equipment in the New York City/north New Jersey area, Superior reports.
Having built a strong reputation for reliability and customer service over the last 20 years, the company says it provides a fullservice offering, from an in-house technical department to maintenance management for a wide range of clients across vended and multi-housing laundry facilities.
Superior Laundry offers new equipment from Maytag for vended and multi-housing facilities, and from ADC for vended laundry operations. Coming in early 2018, the company will also offer Maytag’s highly anticipated new lineup of multi-load washers available in rigid mount or soft mount.
Superior has launched a brand-new website — www.superiorlaundry.com — redesigned for a clean, user-friendly and mobilefriendly platform. The site is intuitive and provides easy access to essential information, the company says. There is also a new section for investors looking to buy or sell a Laundromat within its service area, along with a new referral program.
SETOMATIC SYSTEMS HIRES KELLY, PROMOTES NORTH, SCHANTZ
In personnel moves at payment technology provider Setomatic Systems – SpyderWash, the company has hired John Kelly to serve as its director of sales, and has promoted Jeff North and Gregg Schantz.
Kelly has worked in the commercial laundry industry since graduating from the University of WisconsinMilwaukee in 2011. Prior to joining Setomatic’s SpyderWash team, Kelly worked for Alliance Laundry Systems, most recently serving as regional sales manager for Speed Queen Commercial.
“John’s vast experience in dealing with machine manufacturers, commercial laundry distributors and laundry owners will be a huge asset not only for us, but also to our growing network of distributors and customers,” says Michael Schantz, Setomatic president. “We have been working hard for the past year trying to find the right person to lead the expansion of our sales force and, with John, we truly feel we have found that person.”
North, who runs the company’s New Hampshire office where many SpyderWash items are now produced, was promoted to executive vice president.
“Jeff has been with SpyderWash since its introduction at the Clean Show in 2009 and has been extremely important in helping SpyderWash lead the way in hybrid payment systems for commercial laundry,” says Schantz.
Gregg Schantz is now company vice president. He joined
Setomatic full-time in 2013 and became its director of sales and operations in 2015. Representing the third generation of the family business, he has been instrumental in the growth of SpyderWash through his daily contact with customers and distributors, Michael Schantz says.
“I couldn’t be more proud of how Gregg has taken to the commercial laundry business and the care he shows our customers on a daily basis is inspiring.”
COMPANIES JOIN IN HURRICANE RECOVERY EFFORTS
In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey striking Texas and Louisiana, and Hurricane Irma impacting Florida, in late August and early September, companies with ties to the self-service laundry industry have organized special programs intended to help those affected.
Continental Girbau Inc. and its Houston-based distributor, Skyline Equipment Inc., have initiated a disaster relief initiative that includes special equipment financing and rental programs, as well as quick equipment and parts replacement, according to Continental President Mike Floyd. His company has dedicated a page on its website—www.cgilaundry.com/disaster-relief.html—to Hurricane Harvey relief details and recovery tips.
“Working together, Continental and Skyline Equipment have secured additional warehouse space in Houston, managed by Continental, for surplus equipment and parts inventory,” says Floyd. The joint relief program also encompasses special financing on all Continental, LG, Econ-O and Girbau Industrial vended and on-premise laundry equipment.
Locally in Houston, Skyline Equipment is fielding inquiries and working to quickly prepare equipment replacement quotes, assist customers and insurers, and perform installations.

insurance,” says Floyd. “Yet the majority of the damage is floodrelated. That means many of our Texas customers face devastation and must dig deep to get their laundry operations up and running again. We hope that our special, full-service equipment rental program, and prompt equipment and parts replacement, will ease that burden.”

Having seen first-hand how destructive a hurricane can be, Laundrylux, the North American supplier of Electrolux and Wascomat commercial laundry equipment, has also instituted a Disaster Relief Program for laundries affected by Harvey and Irma.
The program includes no payments for six months and 0% interest rate options on Electrolux and Wascomat equipment. Laundrylux is also waiving all fees to help laundry owners get back in business.
“We had employees and customers who lost their homes and businesses, and were completely devastated by (Hurricane) Sandy for a long time,” says Laundrylux President John Sabino of the 2012 storm that swamped coastal regions from New Jersey north to Connecticut, including New York City.
That’s why it was important for his company to launch its Disaster Relief Program for Laundromats, apartment buildings, and on-premises laundry facilities affected by the recent hurricanes.
“All of us at Laundrylux send our support to the people in Texas,” Sabino says. “We want to do our part to help during this extremely difficult time. We are working hand in hand with our distributors in the areas hit by Hurricane Harvey to make it as affordable as possible for laundries to get back up and running as quickly as possible.
“We are also praying for Florida — and our hearts go out to the people in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. It’s all about community and supporting each other.”
Meanwhile, the Coin Laundry Association and its LaundryCares Foundation based in the Chicago area are organizing a separate effort to direct Texas and Louisiana residents who were impacted by Harvey to self-service laundry facilities that are open and operational.
CLA is requesting that all laundry facilities in Texas and Louisiana report their status by completing a simple form that can be found here: https://laundrycares.org/hurricane-harvey-locationreport/
The information will be compiled into a searchable table that will be made available on the LaundryCares website and shared via social media to the local population in Harvey-impacted areas.
LaundryCares is also encouraging store owners who are experiencing post-hurricane trouble with their store to provide their status and the association will follow up with them.
FIRST PRIMUS STORE DEBUTS IN MID-ATLANTIC REGION
Ole Laundromat, described by distributor Equipment Marketers as the first Primus® brand self-service laundry in the Mid-Atlantic region, opened in Allentown, Pa., recently. Owned by partners Bernie DiConstantino and George Gautreaux, it is the second laundry that the pair has opened here in less than a year.
“I chose to open a Laundromat business because I considered it a perfect investment for its benefits of flexibility, independence and recession resistance,” says DiConstantino. “It’s a business where I don’t have to manage a lot of employees.”
The pair also wanted to bring something new to the market, and that’s where Primus and Equipment Marketers came to the forefront. They saw Primus as a brand that had built a reputation outside North America as an innovator, with exceptionally reliable washers and dryers. That was their experience with the few machines they tested in their first store.
“We were very happy with the performance of the machines, especially the 200 G-force final wash spin, the largest door openings in the marketplace, and being able to program EcoWash cycles to compete against ‘cheaper dollar days’ that other laundries implement,” says DiConstantino.
This led them to equip their newest store with only Primus machines.
Working with Equipment Marketers was an easy decision, says DiConstantino, because of the New Jersey-based company’s range of services, including store layout, installation, expert service, and an extensive parts department.
“We have been helping people like Bernie and George in the laundry business for decades,” says Dick LaMaina, president of Equipment Marketers, which has been in business since 1945. “Our job is easier when we have a great brand of equipment like Primus Commercial Laundry with which to work.” ACO
