Crothall settles disability discrimination lawsuit
ATLANTA — Crothall Healthcare Inc., a medical laundry and linen service, will pay $37,500 and provide other relief to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
According to the EEOC’s lawsuit, applicant Billy Pack, who has cerebral palsy and is deaf, was interviewed by Crothall for a laundry services worker position at the company’s Rome, Georgia, location. Pack came to the interview with an American Sign Language interpreter and mobility aids and asked for a stool as an accommodation for his disability.
Crothall refused to extend an offer to Pack and claimed the position had been filled but hired more than 80 non-disabled workers for the position shortly after Pack applied, according to the EEOC’s complaint.
Under the consent decree resolving the lawsuit, Crothall will pay $37,500 in monetary damages to Pack. Crothall will also conduct regular reporting, monitoring, annual training, distribution of anti-discrimination policies and notice posting. ALN
Is your website helping or hurting business?
BY JASON WILSON AND NOAH ZUCKERMAN
Online presence is one of the leading factors in successful business practice across all industries today. Though we’ve been walking the path toward a digitized economy for a decade or two, the pandemic shifted that transition into high gear.
Now, if a laundry’s website is hard to find, navigate or even look at, the consequences can be significant. No longer are reputation, print advertising and location the main drivers of business.
Online presence, design and visibility are essential elements of an effective prospect outreach strategy.
If you’re wondering whether your website is helping or hurting business, here are some questions to ask.
DOES YOUR SITE LOOK TRUSTWORTHY?
People judge businesses by their appearance. Whether it’s the building, employees or
the website, how it looks will form the judgments of prospects who see them and will play a part in whether they decide to become customers.
If your website isn’t designed with the user experience in mind, it likely provides a
poor user experience. Whether it be outdated visuals or challenging navigation, any disturbance encountered on your website can be a deal-breaker.
This is because, to the modern customer,

Your Views Survey:
Some positive signs for laundry business
CHICAGO — After the downturn caused by COVID-19, there are some positive signs for laundry/linen services heading into 2022.
That’s what respondents indicate in the most recent American Laundry News Your Views survey.
When asked, “How has the pandemic impacted your laundry business,” more than 65% of survey respondents say business has been up or at least steady.
Just over 23% say business is up, and almost 12% indicate “business is way up,” with 38.5% remaining steady.
Business is down for 23.1% of survey takers, and only 11.5% say “business is way down.”
When asked if sales were up compared to this time last year, responses included:
• Many more inquiries and sales. Of course, starting from almost zero last year, anything is an improvement.
• Yes, with food and beverage.
• Slightly more.
• Absolutely not, how could it? Places have closed forever, and we will never recover what was lost!
• FY 2021 Quarter 1 is down and Quarter 2 is up versus FY 2020.
For those laundry and linen services with business trending upward, the reason for the improvement most indicate is the pandemic winding down (45.5%). Almost 41% say demand has increased, while 27.3% offered additional services or added more profit centers.
Just over 18% increased their customer base to improve business, while decreased competition helped 13.6%
Only 9.1% saw results from boosted marketing efforts.
When asked, “What is the best thing that happened to your business in 2020 into 2021,” responses included:
• Eliminating the stimulus pay to bring workers back.
• PPP money.
• The slowdown of the pandemic allowing business to open.
• Staying operational.
• Capability to support our customers.
• Competition went dormant and shut down sales force.
• Vaccinations make it safer for our customers to reopen and expand.
• We have gone deeper into food and beverage.
• Some customers reopened facilities that were closed. This helped offset the number of customers who closed permanently.
• Acquired more efficient, automated machines.
• We acquired a label maker and press for marking resident clothing and facility scrubs, etc.
• CDC demands bed-topper changeout for every guest in hospitality.

• Disciplined daily employee wellness check procedures.
• Hospital volumes have increased.
• We survived.
When asked, “If your sales haven’t improved since this time last year, what do you blame it on,” responses included:
• COVID-19.
• No uniform rental sales/market.
• We are on on-site laundry for a rural hospital and extended care. We do not have off-site customers.
• Lack of staffing to install new customers. Time and demands to provide existing customers the services required.
Moving toward the final quarter of 2021 and looking ahead to 2022, more than 65% of respondents are confident will keep improving while 27% say their business will stay the same.
Only 7.7% are worried their business will “remain in decline.”
For laundry operators who say their business will improve or remain the same, reasons include:
• We are allowed inside the hospitals to meet with the CEOs.
• We are primed to expand more healthcare.
• There are always better prospects in the market space and place.
• Once we can get workers back, we can improve our service
• Hospital volumes are increasing with new locations opening soon.
Those worried about continued decline give these reasons:
• Pandemic is increasing (mask mandates on the rise).
• More government control will drive business away.
• I think this year’s overage is a short-term bubble that will return to normal or slightly less in the following two to three years.
• Lack of labor.
Overall, the industry is working to make sure it provides quality goods and services to customers in order to stay relevant and in business.
“We need to work to increase the value we bring as an industry,” one respondent writes.
While the Your Views survey presents a snapshot of readers’ viewpoints at a particular moment, it should not be considered scientific. Due to rounding, percentages may not add up to 100%.
Subscribers to American Laundry News e-mails are invited to take the industry survey anonymously online each quarter. All managers and administrators of institutional/OPL, cooperative, commercial and industrial laundries are encouraged to participate, as a greater number of responses will help to better define operator opinions and identify industry trends. Milnor has a better solution through dilution.
When Milnor introduced PulseFlow® technology, CBW® washing was thrust into the future. The idea of balancing time, temperature, mechanical action and chemistry was missing one critical piece of the pie – DILUTION through the efficient use of water.
PulseFlow combines the innovative RecircONE® fast wet down and chemical immersion in the first module with standing bath washing in every spacious process module. Thorough and efficient dilution occurs by way of intermittent high velocity counterflow rinsing and traditional True Top Transfer.
The result is hygienically clean linen using less water (as low as 0.3 gallons per pound/2.5 liters per kilogram) and less energy as proven time and again by hundreds of PulseFlow tunnels in a variety of laundry applications worldwide.

September rolls around
W hat comes to mind when you think of September?
Now, now. Don’t cry. I know summer is over, but it will be back next year.
Here at American Laundry News, two things come to mind in September: distributors and experts.
That’s right, you’ll find our annual Distributors Directory, starting on page 10. For you laundry operators, this is your resource to find a distributor that provides what you need, from equipment to chemicals to other services.
The listing offers the names and contact information for businesses that distribute laundry equipment, parts/services, chemicals, textiles and other products/supplies.

tors is listed alphabetically by city and state to help you find a distributor near your laundry operation.
After you find the supplies and companies you’re looking for, you can contact the distributors to find out exactly the brands and products and services they offer,
along with their coverage areas.
September is also the time we start looking toward 2022 around here, and that means opening nominations for our Panel of Experts.
Each year we take applications (you can nominate yourself or someone else) to answer industry questions in print and online for 12 months, beginning in January.
You can find the nomination form here: https://americanlaundrynews.com/2022-panel-expertsapplication. On the form, you’ll find the categories for which we’re looking for experts and sections to provide information about the nominee.
Those selected will be contacted toward the end of October.
So, find your distributors and nominate an expert to help keep it clean, everybody! ALN
Solutions for key problem employees
We have all had to deal with problem employees. Clear expectations and firm guidance can often deal with the situation, but every once in a while, we run into a problem employee who is in a key position.
Many years ago, I was hired to turn around an existing healthcare laundry that was experiencing numerous service problems. I was placed on top of the existing organization and began to improve the performance of the existing staff.
The plant manager was a constant thorn in my side. He resisted every move I tried to make by always saying in front of the management staff, “We have tried that before and it did not work.”
That is when I started using the phrase, “Great you have experience with that system or idea. Let’s discuss what problems you had implementing the process and develop ways to avoid those problems in the future. Good planning and overcoming problems are part of being a good manager.”
That approach always changed the discussion from one of “it can’t be done” to one of “how we can make it work this time?”
This plant manager would then say the director of nursing or the infection control department will never agree to such a plan. This appeal to a higher or different authority was designed to make the project seem impossible.
My response was that if the changes we were about to make would improve service to the nurses, we would easily get buy-in from the director of nursing and I would be happy to get that approval when the plan was properly developed and ready for implementation.
Since our responsibility was to provide the very best hygienically clean linen to our hospitals, getting appropriate support from the infection control department was simply a normal course of action.
CINCINNATI — PSG®, an operating company of Dover Corporation, reports that it has completed the acquisition of Dositec Sistemas S.L., a provider of dispensing systems for laundry, food service and commercial cleaning companies.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Hydro Systems, part of PSG, has been an exclusive supplier of Dositec chemical management systems in North America since 2015.
“Dositec has been a valuable strategic partner of Hydro Systems since 2015, and we are excited to
bring this leader in connected technology under Hydro’s portfolio of dispensing solutions,” says Karl Buscher, president of PSG.
“This acquisition will enable future growth of connected systems and services that help our customers optimize their operations.”
Dositec’s commercial laundry systems are scalable, making them an ideal solution for washer-extractors and tunnel washers of all sizes in industrial and on-premises laundries, the company says.
Dositec’s focus on connected capabilities supports Hydro Connect, a cloud-based IoT plat-
form from Hydro Systems that gives chemical providers and endusers a detailed view of laundry alarms, production information, chemical and water usage, costs and more.
“This acquisition strengthens PSG and Hydro Systems as it enhances our product development capabilities and enables us to support more of our customers around the globe,” adds John Goetz, global product manager, Hydro Systems.
“We are excited for the future of the Dositec product line, which will simplify and improve the laundry process for our customers.” ALN
I never once heard this manager say, “I do not like that plan,” or “I do not think that is a good idea.” The manager always used a passive approach to object to what I wanted to do.
I found the approach most annoying and felt that no matter what I did, this manager would never fully support any of the needed changes that had to be made in the operation. Even with their resistance, the laundry improved its performance and our ability to effectively meet the needs of our end users increased with each change.
It finally became evident that this two-shift operation needed better coordination and production planning between the two shifts. The day shift often left the night shift with major problems to solve during their shift and then complained if everything was not properly set up by the end of the night for the next day.
I needed to scramble my management staff in order to help them gain a better appreciation for the challenges of each shift. My first thought was to simply switch the two management staffs for at least a three-month period so they could learn to deal with each other’s challenges.
I talked with the two evening supervisors and then with the one da shift supervisor. All three agreed that my idea had merit and were willing to make the change. I then approached the plant manager told him of my idea that the two nighttime supervisors should take over the day shift responsibilities and that the manager and the day shift supervisor should take over the nighttime responsibilities.
The manager objected immediately and said that the day shift supervisor would never go along with the plan. He was very surprised when I told him I had already talked to the day shift supervisor and they had agreed.
I thought I would finally get a strong personal reaction from the manager but instead of telling me they did not want to work night shift, they simply shrugged and went along with the plan.
Three weeks later the plant manager turned in their notice and took a job at another healthcare laundry in the area. The change in shifts and the departure of this manager made a major difference in the laundry.
Dealing with difficult employees is never fun and is often very challenging but patience and creativity can win the day. ALN

Local leaders and laundry industry and UniFirst representatives made up the crowd on hand to celebrate the opening.
“We’re a big company, but we still have a small-company feel, and that’s what makes UniFirst unique,” says Cynthia Croatti, executive vice president. “We still feel like a family.”
After opening remarks from Africa Tarver, executive director of planning and development for the
Hammond Regional Development Commission; Mayor Thomas M. McDermott Jr., Councilman Mark Kalwinski; Darren Lane, general manager of the new facility; Croatti; and Sintros, attendees toured the facility and enjoyed a catered lunch.
Developed to accommodate a rapidly growing customer base in the Greater Hammond, Chicago, Evanston, Orland Park, and surrounding communities, the new plant replaces a smaller (outgrown) Hammond-based branch location and features the latest innovations in textile services
technologies and automation.
The new operation and its staff of 80 are poised to provide local businesses with personalized service programs for uniforms and workwear, as well as facility service products like floor mats and mops, wipers and towels, and restroom and ancillary business products.
All employees from the previous facility have transitioned to the new location, and a 15% increase in staff is expected over the next three years to accommodate projected growth rates.
Spanning five acres, the new facil-
ity also has an eye on the “greener” side of operations, supporting greater energy efficiencies through heat reclaiming equipment, contemporary rooftop HVAC units, latest-generation machinery that requires less natural resources for the production and hygienic laundering of garments and textiles, and eco-conscious warehouse and office lighting.
In addition, all cleaning formulas and detergents are 100% environmentally friendly, and natural light throughout the plant offers a positive employee boost to the workday while saving on energy. ALN
The secrets to building brand power
BY KIM FOXCROFT
OSHKOSH, Wis. — If a brand is the key to business success, then what’s the best way to establish a brand and build its identity?
Moreover, as your business grows, how do you expand the brand into new services and revenue streams?
In this column, I share my branding expertise with commercial and industrial laundry owners and offer my expertise on building brand power.
BRAND & BRAND IDENTITY
Not only is your brand the foundation of your business, it’s the cornerstone of its future expansion. Brand identity, however, is how you want your target market to perceive your company, product, services and brand.
Much like a value proposition, brand identity is continuously built upon as your business grows and expands. By continuously living your brand iden-
tity—internally and externally— your employees, procedures and communications stay aligned. This strengthens your brand and distinguishes it from the competition in the minds of your customers and team members.
SPREADING THE WORD
Once established, communicate your brand consistently— verbally and graphically—to your target markets. All aspects of your marketing and public
relations (website, news releases, social media, direct mail, advertising) should link back to your brand and brand identity.
EXPANDING YOUR BRAND INTO NEW REVENUE STREAMS
As your business grows, you might start new complementing businesses or services such as residential pick-up and delivery. One option is to use multibranding, in which a different brand name is used for every service targeting a different market. You brand because your brand becomes your business-enterprise foundation. Whatever you decide needs to work for you and your company.
TIPS FOR CREATING YOUR BRAND
Your brand should come from who you are, who you want to be and who your customers perceive you to be. It should also distinguish your company and services from your competition’s and create a customer expectation of quality.
When creating a brand:
• Carry out research to reveal how you fit into the competitive marketplace.
• Learn the needs and wants of your current and future customers.
• Determine what customers and prospects already think of your company.
• Write down the benefits and features of your products or services.
• Define your specialty. What do you do best?
• Define the qualities/values you want customers to associate with your company, products and services.
• Define your brand. ALN

a website is more than information about a business; it is a window into that business’ operations, managerial philosophy, competency and whether they’re proud of what they do.
If a site looks unkempt and outdated, the commonly drawn conclusion is that their services must be also. And that evaluation is largely made before a website’s content is read.
•
Mobile compatibility
It’s estimated that web traffic in 2021 is split nearly 50/50 between mobile and desktop searching. And this trend continues to favor mobile browsing year after year.
Though your website is likely accessible through mobile devices, if it isn’t built to adapt to a mobile screen, then it will be very difficult to navigate, which can turn prospects away quickly.
• The importance of legibility
If visitors to your site can’t easily read the information that is there, they will not stick around to translate it from same-color backgrounds, hard-to-read fonts or word walls.
Keep designs simple and easy to digest for readers who may only look at your site for a few seconds before moving on to a different option.
• Demonstrate personability
The best way to connect to prospects and one of the easiest aspects to overlook is how personable your website is. Customers need a sense of who you are and what they can expect from working with you.
A visit to your website is your chance to show off your team, build a brand personality and explain what you have to offer prospective customers.
IS YOUR SITE FAST ENOUGH?
When it comes to digital marketing, every second counts. As people adjust to receiving services and performing tasks faster on average, attention spans are getting shorter.
For your website, this means it only has a few seconds to load before your visitor gives up and leaves. And that demand for speed is only getting stronger.
A slow site is not only harmful in the short term through loss of those visits but can significantly impact placement on search engine results pages.
Search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo examine a multitude of factors when deciding where to place your business of certain search terms (more on this below), and site speed is a decisive factor.
• How search engines deal with slow sites
If your site’s loading times and
functionality can’t at least match your competitors, you’re creating several negative perceptions for prospects.
As your traffic goes down, so, too, does your ability to show up on search engines, making poor site speed a problem that makes more problems.
• Your need for speed
In the jungle of the Internet, keeping pace is a high priority. A professionally built website should take the factors that adversely affect site speed and capitalize on them. One that does not take these
factors into account will likely fall prey to search engine filters.
To keep these factors working for you, it’s important to work with a solid hosting service and to resolve back-end issues before they affect your rankings.
CAN PROSPECTS FIND YOUR SITE EASILY?
Search engines are the crossroads of the Internet where nearly 93% of all the web traffic flows.
When prospects want to find services you supply, they’ll search for it in a search engine and, if your site is search engine optimized
(SEO), there’s a good chance you’ll be one of the first choices on the results page.
If it’s not, your competitors who are optimized will likely get that lead.
• A simple SEO test
To get an idea of where you’re at, search for your company’s name in your preferred search engine. If it shows as the first or second result, that’s a good start.
Now, search for a product or service you provide like a prospect might. It could say “linen service in (your town or city)” or “uni-
form rental near me.” If your site is in the top five, that’s great. If not, things could be better.
When looking to rank high for certain keywords, it’s important to have content built around those keywords. If they aren’t present on your site, or if the content around them isn’t written well or with SEO principles in mind, you will have a hard time ranking well enough to be seen.
• You must implement SEO correctly

Lowering costs, improving efficiency in OPLs
Author recommends a planned, multi-level approach to savings and efficiency in an OPL setting
BY BILL BROOKS
RIPON, Wis. — If you want to save money in your personal life, it’s easy. You can clip coupons, watch for sales or buy store-brand products.
But if you want to save money and improve efficiency in your onpremises laundry (OPL), it’s going to take a more planned and multilevel approach.
LABOR IS THE BIGGEST COST
First, look at the staffing of your OPL since labor is the No. 1 cost of doing laundry. You really want to fluctuate your staffing to the task at hand.
If you’re a hotel that is constantly at 80% occupancy, it’s easy to staff. But if capacity is at 60% during the week and 100% on the weekends, you want to incorporate flex staffing, so workers are cleaning rooms and serving guests during the highoccupancy dates and then doing the higher laundry processing afterward.
A staggered schedule and delayed start are smart so loads are started before the full-time person gets in. Then it’s a matter of throughput— sorting, putting the laundry into the washers, moving it to the dryers and all the other activities in the laundry room.
Your full-time workers should be able to keep the pace with completing 1.5 loads per hour.
LEVERAGE THE EQUIPMENT FEATURES
Some equipment features help to leverage throughput. High G-force washing machines extract more water from the laundry, shortening dryer times and allowing wash and dry times to be similar.
For example, if you have 60 pounds of towels in a low G-force washing machine, you’ll have 50 pounds of water in those towels. But in a high-extract washing machine, those same 60 pounds of towels will only have 31 pounds of water.
Put another way, the first batch of towels will take about 40 minutes to dry while the second will take about 26 minutes. And when you’re doing a lot of laundry, those minutes add up. Removing water in the washer is also less costly than removing it in the dryer.
In addition, spray rinse cycles in your washers help to get all the contaminants out of the loads quickly, saving not only time but also water.
Large and multiple fill valves will also hasten washing machine fill times. You will pay more for larger fill valves, but if your washing machine fills faster, you will get more done in a day.
For example, water will flow much faster through a three-quarter-inch fill valve than a half-inch fill valve. The difference between the two fill rates is about 56%. In other words, you can refill a washing machine with three-quarterinch valves almost 44% faster.
In dryers, moisture sensing will also shorten dry times. In the past, a lot of dryers just had timers, and most operators would set dryers for the worst-case scenario.
Studies show operators will over dry by an average of eight minutes a cycle when using a timer vs. when the machine just stops when the laundry is dry. That affects how many loads you can get done in a day and doesn’t even consider the extra electricity and/or gas you are using by running your dryers longer than necessary.
TECHNOLOGY MAKES A DIFFERENCE
Equipment can report and measure how often the machines are running during an eight-hour shift vs. how often they’re sitting idle.
Your laundry equipment should be kept running about 75% of the time with loading and unloading causing the machines to be idle the remaining 25% of the day. To be able to measure that run time is important since it tells you if your laundry is operating efficiently.
The machines should also be able to tell you if you are using the right cycles. For example, if you’re a hotel doing towels and linens 90% of the time, your operator/ manager should be using the most efficient cycles for those loads.
Training employees how to properly do the laundry is often overlooked. Even simple instructions in your laundry room are
helpful. Worded cycle descriptions like “towels” on the control vs. a numbered keypad will also simplify the process and assure the proper cycles are run.
There is a huge turnover rate in laundry workers; they often stay on the job for less than a year. But if they are never trained properly on how to load the machine, then they are likely doing it wrong for the entire year.
If employees are only loading the machines three-quarters full and trying to get 12 loads done each day, then they didn’t produce as much clean laundry as they should have in that day and the cost-per-pound processed is higher than needed.
BARRIERS TO EFFICIENCY
By far, underloading a washing machine is the most common error. A full load should leave enough space at the top so that a football would fit in. By properly loading the machine, you’ll get the proper mechanical cleaning action when the laundry drops. That drop is what gets laundry clean.
It’s also important not to over dry your laundry. As I previously mentioned, studies show that most laundry is overdried by about eight minutes per load. And that has a labor cost—$4,866 for eight minutes per load over one year.
Over drying will also cost you more in utilities. Again assuming that most laundry is overdried about eight minutes, you can cut your utility bill by about $883 per year for a 75-pound dryer, just by not over drying your linens.
Over drying also will cause your linens to degrade faster. If you have textiles made for 100 washes, over
drying them by eight minutes per load means you must replace your linens a lot faster.
Most of the damage to linens comes after they are dried. Thus, the sooner you can stop your dryer once the laundry is dry, the more life you can get out of your linens.
And that’s important since linen cost is the second-highest cost of running a laundry, behind only employees, at about 13-25% of the total cost.
By over drying, you’re also likely to get more negative customer reviews about poor towel quality, often explained as a coarse or rough feel, even though it isn’t a towel quality issue, but rather a poor laundry process.
Today’s top washer-extractors usually offer leak detection, either at a certain time of the day or every so many loads.
The technology allows the machine to determine if water is coming in or draining out when it shouldn’t. The machine will give operators an error code on the controller so they know a problem is occurring and thus, can correct the problem.
KEEP EQUIPMENT IN TOP SHAPE
It’s best to follow your equipment’s operating manual about what maintenance items should be done daily, weekly or monthly.
The main daily maintenance task is removing the lint from dryers to maintain good airflow.
On washers, the most important maintenance to do is to grease the bearings every 200 operating hours. Again, a good washer will have
a pop-up screen that will tell you when to grease the bearings.
Preventative maintenance will keep your laundry room running. Good industrial equipment should last more than 13-15 years if you’re a high-volume laundry running a single shift of 10 loads per day every day. Industrial equipment has a lifecycle almost double of coin laundry design models.
A dryer, depending on the type, requires fresh air because that air, called makeup air, is what is doing the drying. Depending on the number of dryers, you will need a certain square footage of makeup air. Venting is where the dryer blows out the exhaust.
When the venting and make-up air are sized properly according to the install manual, you will have much faster dry times and more throughput. Like washers, a good dryer will provide an error code indicator for airflow errors.
Taking all these things into consideration, you can create 35% savings by properly running your OPL. In a year’s time of operating, those savings at a larger hotel can exceed $40,000.
In other words, you would have to sell an additional 400 room nights per year (at an average cost of $100 per room) to make up for the costs incurred by running your OPL inefficiently. ALN

A haphazard content strategy can be more damaging than none at all. If your site has duplicate content, plagiarized content, repetitive keyword usage, over-optimization, poor internal or external linking strategy, or unsophisticated use of meta tags, search engines will pick up on these deficits and punish the site for it, which means your site will be pushed to the bottom of search results or removed entirely from them.
IS YOUR SITE FINDABLE IN DIRECTORIES?
Search engines aren’t the only place your site and business information can appear. Directories remain powerful methods of widening your digital footprint while reaping some extra benefits.
Some directories, like the Google My Business directory, are important for the general visibility of your business during online searches. Other, industry-focused directories like Linen Services or Uniform Services present your business to curated, highly interested prospects.
• Extra benefits of online direc-
tory presence
Appearing in directories offers more benefits than simply having your business in more places. Here are just some of the benefits that directory inclusion offers your business:
º Improved SEO. Directories provide quality backlinks to your website, which improves the image of your website in the eyes of search engines.
º Improved reputation. Inclusion of your business in these directories can cement it as a major player in the industry and place you alongside peers.
º Demonstrate accreditations. Other directories, like TRSA’s Hygienically Clean Directory, place you among businesses accredited for complying with strict rules of cleanliness and production.
IS YOUR SITE SECURE?
A website that is down, compromised or dangerous to visit will do serious damage to your business and online reputation.
Without professional monitoring, hosting or disaster recovery of your website, any number of things can go wrong. From down servers to infectious malware, there’s a nearendless list of threats to the modern business’ website. The worst thing that can happen when these problems arise is to do nothing.
Search engines are attuned to compromised websites and will avoid them efficiently. While that is good for people using the search engine, for the business affected, it’s a disaster and one that can take several months to sort out depend-
ing on the severity of the issue. These are just some of the factors that need to be addressed when building a reliable, secure website:
• Knowledgeable, constant monitoring. Your website needs constant monitoring for threats against its continued operation. Prepare to deal with cyberattacks, CMS complications or other website dangers.
• Reliable hosting. Without a good hosting service, there’s no guarantee that your site will remain up or that it will come back online soon if it goes down. Become as familiar with your web host as pos-
sible and get a new one if necessary to avoid this issue.
• Disaster Preparation. If your site goes down, you need a plan to either get it back up or start again elsewhere. Any number of disasters could happen so you need a solid recovery plan and backup service to deal with them in the event they occur.
NO SUBSTITUTE FOR A PREPPED AND READY WEBSITE
If you can’t provide ideal answers for the questions posed above, there is no need to panic;
there are only reasons to act.
Prospects won’t stop searching for services they need, and it’s your website’s job to put your business in front of them. If it can’t do that, there are resources and web development services ready to help.
Though the expenses to do it right might be steep, the return on investment (ROI) for a highfunctioning website can be even steeper.
Don’t let complacency get in the way of success; get the most out of your website and your business with an aware and strategic website presence. ALN

Linen King appoints new CEO
TULSA, Okla. — Linen King, a provider of healthcare laundry services in the South and Central United States, reports that Chris Corcoran, currently chief operating officer, will succeed Leonard McCullough as CEO, effective immediately.
McCullough will remain with the company in the role of Executive in Residence, providing continued support to the senior leadership team and the Board of Directors.
“Having served as a founding partner and CEO of Linen King for 22 years, I feel this is the right time for me to transition leadership as CEO to Chris and assume an executive advisory role at the company,” says McCullough.
“It has been an honor and privilege to help build Linen King into the regional leader it is today. I am proud of our employees and grateful to the entire team for turning an unprecedented and challenging year into one of record growth.
“We are excited to promote Chris to the CEO position and I am confident that he will lead Linen King into its next phase of expansion.”
Corcoran has more than 30 years of operational and executive managerial experience in the healthcare laundry business, most recently serving as Linen King’s COO since January 2021.
Prior to Linen King, he served as a division vice president for a large, multiregional healthcare laundry group, establishing a track record for maximizing performance across multiple facility locations.
“I am eager to serve Linen King as CEO and continue building on the foundation that Leonard and his father, LK McCullough, have established,” shares Corcoran. “They created a culture of excellence for customer service and operating standards, and I look forward to honoring those values as we continue to grow.
“I welcome working with Leonard as our Executive in Residence and benefitting from his experience as an industry veteran.”
McCullough founded Linen King with his father, LK McCullough, in 1999 and has served the company for more than 22 years.
Under his leadership, Linen King went from 20 employees to more than 700 employees and from one location processing 2 million pounds to seven locations processing more than 100 million pounds of healthcare linen.
Xos Inc. delivering three electric step vans to UniFirst
LOS ANGELES — Xos Inc., a manufacturer of fully electric Class 5 to Class 8 commercial vehicles, reports it has signed an agreement to deliver three Xos electric step vans to UniFirst Corp. as a test program with potential for additional vehicle purchases for use across the United States.
This effort is part of UniFirst’s ongoing sustainability initiatives that include striving for more eco-conscious service delivery systems.
Xos developed its 100% electric vehicles to meet the demands and extended life cycles of last-mile, on-highway, and vocational vehicles for B2B service-oriented customers like UniFirst.
“This partnership helps demonstrate Xos’ ability to provide advanced commercial electric vehicles to large last-mile fleets, including established uniform rental and workwear customers throughout North America,” says Giordano Sordoni, Xos’ co-founder and COO.
“Partnering with UniFirst is an important step forward in our long-term growth plans to expand electric delivery trucks into novel market segments while supporting fleet operators in a diverse set of industries across the country.”
UniFirst is committed to the advancement of environmentally friendly business practices and plans to implement its first Xos delivery vehicles at its California uniform service operations later this year.
“We’re very excited to partner with Xos and soon see our all-electric delivery vehicles on the road as we continue our commitment toward more sustainable delivery solutions,” says Michael Croatti, UniFirst’s executive vice president of operations.

LAVATEC reaches equipment agreement with Oregon laundry
BEACON FALLS, Conn. — Laundry equipment manufacturer LAVATEC reports it has reached an agreement with Southern Oregon Linen Service of White City, Oregon, to manufacture new equipment for the provider of cooperative laundry services for several regional hospitals.
Southern Oregon Linen Service purchased a new LT60 continuous tunnel washing system with 14 compartments to go with an LP572 40-bar press, six TT-745 dryers with a capacity of 292 pounds each, and a shuttle system.
“For the last several years, we have built a solid relationship with the management team at Southern Oregon Linen Service,” says Jim Slatcher, LAVATEC’s Western regional sales manager. “When it came time to replace their existing tunnel system, they felt confident that LAVATEC could provide them with the best system to meet their current and future needs.
“They have provided a valuable service to the region and local communities for 25 years. I’m looking forward to delivering their equipment not only to serve their needs but to exceed their expectations.”
Riegel Linen, T-Y Group, Harbor Linen complete merger to become 1Concier
MIAMI — Riegel Linen, T-Y Group and Harbor Linen (a former division of Bed Bath & Beyond, Inc.) report that they have completed their merger into one company: 1Concier.
The combination forms an industry-leading provider of textiles and OSE for hotels, cruise lines, restaurants, commercial laundries, linen suppliers and long-term healthcare facilities, according to the company.
“This rebranding to 1Concier caps off a period of dramatic transformation for the company as we reposition ourselves for success in the rebounding economic landscape,” says CEO Chris Nelson. “With investment from our new private equity owner, Lion Equity Partners, we have merged the three companies into one team with a shared spirit, culture and fully integrated systems.
“We have combined our product portfolio of bedding, towels, robes, healthcare products and table linens into an even larger one-stop-shop to meet the needs of the hospitality and healthcare industries.”
The new company recently restructured its sales organization into geographic orientations with a heightened focus on personal attention toward customers. 1Concier says it has also streamlined its supply chain processes to better serve customers.
1Concier has consolidated its headquarters into its Miami location and maintains an office in Aiken, South Carolina.
“As our new name indicates we are all about exceeding expectations to enrich the guest experience,” Nelson adds. “We know how to solve the challenges hospitality and healthcare organizations face.
“Using our consultative approach and industry expertise we guide customers through the available product options or design custom solutions specific to their needs.”
