HUSH ACTIV SPECIFIED FOR MOD FACILITY
C-TEC’s new Hush ActiV BS 5839-6 Grade C domestic fire alarm systems are providing top-grade fire protection at several Ministry of Defence-managed residential properties in North Wales.
Located on the banks of the Menai Strait, the stretch of shallow tidal water that separates Angelsey from the mainland, the spacious homes are part of The Joint Service Mountain Training Centre Indefatigable, a facility designed to provide affordable holiday accommodation for members of the Armed Forces and their families.
Each of the three-bedroomed properties is equipped with Hush ActiV smoke detectors in the entrance hall and stairs, a heat detector in the kitchen and sounder beacons in the bedrooms, all connected to a Hush ActiV controller. With its easy-to-operate low level controller, the system offers simple detection, alarm, silencing and test facilities at light-switch level – occupants simply press ‘HUSH’ on the controller to silence an unwanted alarm.
Darren Morrell, Director of Olympian Fire, the specialist installation company that completed the project says: “Our client required a system that would provide the families staying in the properties with the highest levels of fire protection and minimal false fire alarms. We specified Hush ActiV, a high-quality cost-effective fully-monitored BS 5839-6 Grade C solution, as it offers greater levels of protection than the unmonitored battery alarm Grade D systems typically used in these properties and virtually eliminates false alarms.

ESP LAUNCHES NEW FOOT OPERATED DOOR PULL
ESP has added a Foot Operated Door Pull to its Aperta access control range.
Hand hygiene is the single most important measure for preventing the spread of infection. With door handles and touch plates having one of the highest touch rates in any environment, they are likely to hold a significant number of microbes on their surfaces.
With a foot operated door pull, users are able to open the door in a more hygienic way with their foot, thus eliminating the need to use their hands and avoiding the problem of handle-to-hand germ transfer.
Made from brushed stainless steel and supplied with rubber stoppers, the new foot pull will work on latchless wooden or metal doors. They are simple to install with the fixing bolt and screws included, and completed with an operation sticker to be positioned at eye level.

Lindapter has announced the immediate availability of the Type COM, a new decking been specified and installed across
fixing for quickly attaching building services to ComFlor 60 and ComFlor 80 profiles manufactured by Tata Steel.
Lindapter’s Type COM provides an efficient and economical fixing for suspending a variety of equipment, including HVAC systems, fire protection, pipe work, electrical items and lowered ceilings. The CE marked fixing creates genuine efficiencies for the contractor as it is installed within seconds and is adjustable onsite without the requirement of specialist labour, expensive tools or power.
The latest addition to Lindapter’s extensive range of decking fixings was developed at the request of Tata Steel which asked Lindapter to design and manufacture a connection point for its popular ComFlor 60 and ComFlor 80 composite decking. The fixing locks inside the dovetail re-entrant channel of the profile and, unlike shot firing methods, this zero-impact method preserves the strength of the deck and avoids delamination (separating the steel from the concrete) and damage to the deck.

SCOLMORE STAYS ONE STEP AHEAD

UNICRIMP EXPANDS SIROFLEX ADHESIVES AND SEALANTS RANGE
Unicrimp, part of the Scolmore Group, is expanding its Siroflex range of adhesives and sealants with the addition of two new fire resistant products.
Flameguard is a high quality, hand-held fire retardant expanding foam, suitable for construction elements where advanced fire security standards are required. It is EN 1366-4 tested and approved (up to 240 minutes in combination with other products). Its uses include filling of large, irregular or awkward gaps where the foam will expand to completely fill the cavity; fixing for window frames, loose tiles and boards; insulating between brickwork and cladding, around ductwork and through cavities carrying pipes and cables. It can also be used as a backing material in all types of sealant application.
FP Acrylic Sealant is a fire resistant acrylic sealant based on acrylic dispersion. It is a plasto-elastic sealant which is slightly intumescent above +120°C and is suitable for up to four hours of fire resistant sealing of linear joints. It has been tested according to EN 1366-4.
