from ECN August 2023
Agood contractor knows that planning ahead will ensure the end result is aesthetically pleasing and well ordered.
Everyone wants a job they can be proud of, and it is imperative that when the site is handed over (to the main contractor or end client) that everyone using the area is kept safe too.
Both an ordered and safe installation can easily be achieved through incorporating cable management products – and selecting suitable products from the get-go is essential to ensure the project goes ahead quickly and smoothly.

Malleable conduit boxes and fittings
It might not be the first product which comes to mind when people think of Niglon, but they’re actually still one of the company’s top selling products. Incredibly, Niglon has been supplying conduit fittings to the trade for more than 50 years.
The company now distributes this range exclusively under the SIMPLEX brand, a well regarded name from yesteryear which many will be familiar with, and which confirms the firm’s pedigree in this area.
While many things have changed in the industry over the decades, tried and tested products which do a reliable job tend to stick around, remaining loved and well-used by each new generation of installers.
As a supplier, NIglon is constantly looking at how it can evolve to meet the needs of the contractors using its products on their installations.
With these products it’s about quality, breadth of available product and stock depth – from the bog standard to the weird and wonderful. Need a ¾” male to 20mm female adaptor, or a 20mm Bonding Nipple? Or perhaps you have a call for several thousand 25mm terminal boxes and have been let down by your normal supplier?
When it comes to conduit boxes and fittings, Niglon has everything you’ll need covered – and the great news is, with more than 1,500 electrical wholesalers stocking Niglon throughout the UK, you’re never too far from a stockist. This network is also backed up by the company’s extensive stock holding at its centrally located distribution centre in the West Midlands.
Cable glands
Cable Glands are one of those products that electricians are fussy about – and rightly so.
If you are currently or indeed have ever worked ‘on the tools’, you will appreciate exactly why this is. Terminating cable into a gland where the olive is too large say, or where the gland lacks sufficient thread and strips whilst you are working on it is no fun!
Nobody wants to be finishing off their installation and terminating their cables with product which is poor quality. All that effort and work to end a good job badly – it doesn’t bear thinking about.
The hassle created by using lesser quality glands is a complete false economy – why save a few pennies on buying a gland which can in turn sap billing time from the day’s work? Frankly, the installer does not have time free to fritter away like this, so its always best to buy once and buy right by getting a quality termination product for your install.
From standard BW and CW options to LSF, CXT and flameproof products – available in sizes ranging from 20mm to 75mm –Niglon has it all when it comes to brass cable glands and gland packs and has worked hard with its supplier base over a long period of time (decades in several instances) to ensure a reliable and consistent product can be provided time, after time, after time.
Flexible conduits
Niglon has you covered when it comes to flexible conduits, with a comprehensive range of options from 12mm to 50mm in diameter. The company’s competitively priced contractor packs come complete with glands and are fantastic for many standard applications.
However, Niglon knows that more demanding installations will require different conduits, and that’s why it also offers galvanised steel, liquid resistant, and liquid tight variants too.
Adaptable boxes and channel bracketry
Being simpler products, product quality should be more of a given here, in Niglon’s view.
Experience tells that it is about making sure that the company has a continuous and ready supply of product to service the customer. Variety on these ranges is vast and it can be an area of very erratic demand driven often by large projects, so it is important to hold good stock depths.
Director Oliver Hinley comments, “These products have been flying off the shelves, especially in the past 12 months – we’ve seen a 60% growth in sales in this area. Niglon’s excellent service levels and pricing structure demonstrates significant growth is possible even in a very crowded product category such as this. It’s simply good product, distributed well.”
Resin cable joints
Resin cable joints are an essential for contractors who are repairing or offering additional protection to cables – or for those needing to extend a power cable using an existing length with a new one. Many installers keep resin cable joints as part of their regular kit to ensure they’ve got some on hand whenever needed. That’s why Niglon offers kits which can joint cables as small as 1.5mm2 and as large as 300mm2 And of course, because Niglon is committed to ensuring safety at all times, its kits are approved to BS EN 50393:2006-11 –safe and handy, what’s not to like?
Why choose Niglon?
Niglon says it knows a good product speaks volumes when it comes to choosing which supplier to opt for – but it also believes that its job is much more than that. As a fourth-generation family owned and run firm, Niglon has retained the personal customer service that stood it in good stead when the business first launched. Nearly 80 years later, its product ranges may have expanded almost beyond the imagination of its founder, but the high-quality service he demanded from his first members of staff has remained the core of the Niglon ethos.
Niglon says it is not a product expert on everything, but many of the products it sells have been developed and improved under the company’s careful guidance. And given the length of time which Niglon has served the industry for, you may well have used a Niglon product without realising!
While the company is a fan of traditional good customer service, it is a truly modern company – with a purpose-built headquarters situated in the heart of England to match. Niglon was one of the first in the industry to adopt revolutionary stock fulfilment processes; has invested heavily and retained a continual focus on research and development; and prides itself on its long-standing commitment to independent third-party certification, to ensure all products are rigorously tested.
Niglon is also more than happy to talk you through its extensive ranges – whether you’re after cable management or products from any of the other supply categories the company specialises in.
