KNX is a global building control platform
What is KNX?
KNX is a global building control platform providing holistic control of all building functions, including lighting, blinds, HVAC, scenes, door entry and so much more under one user-friendly system. Rather than a single brand, KNX is an open protocol supported by over 500 certified manufacturers, all of which are interoperable within one system. This not only offers an unparalleled level of flexibility, product choice and personalisation, but also caters for all project sizes, budgets and design preferences.
How can KNX help your control projects?
With a history of over 30 years and continual product/system development, KNX has the flexibility to be easily deployed across residential, commercial, assisted living and industrial settings. With strict product development certification policies, you can take confidence knowing that you are providing your clients with a stable control system that will stand the test of time and adapt to suit both current and future requirements.
KNX also offers various installation methods, including wired, RF and IP, which allows you to offer KNX control solutions across both new build and retrofit markets. A combined wired and wireless installation can be particularly beneficial within buildings where wiring options are limited, or when an additional room, zone or extension needs to be added to an existing system at a later date.
One of the key benefits for your clients is that all building functions can be controlled via one platform, which greatly enhances the usability of the system. Rather than three remotes, four apps and a mixture of differently styled switches to control different functional elements, KNX brings everything together under one app and one multi-functional keypad/ touchscreen design.

KNX installation
A KNX system can be comprised of various installation methods, with the most common being wired. For a wired system, all KNX devices are connected via a KNX bus cable. Wiring structure options are extremely flexible, including daisy chain, line, tree and star wiring, which not only drastically reduces the amount of cable required, but also wiring times.
For back-end actuators, both din-rail and puck devices are available, which can be housed centrally within a panel or locally to their associated control point. Front-end devices include multi-functional keypads and thermostats, touchscreens and apps which can be personalised to the budget and design preferences of each client.
All KNX devices are programmed via one central software, ETS. This makes the system extremely stable and with on/off-site programming options reduces commissioning times at the initial project deployment stage and for design upgrades.
KNX training
My KNX Store offers a range of training courses at its in-house training academy, which caters for both those new to the building control industry and experienced KNX certified integrators who are looking to expand their knowledge. Each course targets the commonly specified control requirements within the UK market with online, North East and London venues available.
KNX Taster – this online based course is free to attend and provides an overview of the KNX protocol and its benefits across the home automation, building control and BMS sectors.
KNX Partner Certification – this is the ideal course for those wishing to offer KNX control solutions. Based on the KNX programming software, ETS, it is comprised of theoretical/practical workshops and breaks down how to design, install, program and troubleshoot a KNX system. This course focuses on switching, dimming, blind and scene control elements and concludes with two certification exams.
KNX HVAC & Energy Monitoring – in partnership with Zennio, this course details the applications of scalable HVAC control and energy monitoring elements via KNX. Modules include an overview of HVAC systems, thermostatic control and thermostats, control solutions (for UFH and radiators, valves and boilers, fan coils, AC interfacing and zoning) and energy management and reporting.
KNX Advanced Certification – this course provides a detailed breakdown of more complex KNX elements from heating and cooling and advanced lighting control (including Dali) to IP connections and weather station integration. Modules are presented via both theoretical and practical workshops, concluding with two certification exams.
