Still Missing: Dawnita Wilkerson

$3500 reward offered for information leading to the whereabouts of local African American woman

It's been nearly two years since Evansville's Dawnita Wilkerson, a 46-year-old mother of six, vanished into thin air after last being tracked on security cameras at an area motel as she stepped inside a silver/pewter-colored 2004 Chevy SUV. The vehicle reportedly traveled to southern Illinois where Wilkerson's trail stopped cold. While police have been unable to generate any significant leads, her family continues to press forward with efforts to locate their beloved Dawnita, including a $3500 reward for information leading to her whereabouts. They've previously organized special events drawing attention to Wilkerson's disappearance such as last year's "Walking for Dawnita" fundraiser and are determined to keep her name out in the public - with the intention of shining a light on other tri-state missing persons cases in the process.

Sadly, Wilkerson's story took another dark turn recently with the passing of her 25-year-old son Kylar who was killed in a pedestrian accident in Tacoma, Washington, on February 15. Posthigh school, Kylar joined the Armed Forces, serving in the United States Army before retiring; he reportedly enjoyed hiking, working out, making music and being with family and friends. Described as a "one of a kind," Kylar was a wonderful young man with a big heart and a very bright future. He'll be dearly missed.
